Trap is 100% S tier. Debuff + no moving+ okay damage + low cost, you literally cannot go wrong. If you put on phytoplankton+ with Bobbit, you can actually kill every single boss without it attacking you. And if you wanna do it quickly, just pair it with mantis claw.
Bobbit by itself is S. Boss lockdown with boosted damage can make or break a fight. The bobbit mantis combo is double SS. Locked down boss taking increased damage getting blasted by the mantis punch. So good!
I just found something peculiar about this adaptation. If you kill the crab from bleached city while its still trapped by the bobbit, it will not resurrect/molt at all.
The trap is S tier for me. I killed last 5-6 bosses with it first try. They just don’t do anything for seconds while you are attacking them and while attacking you are restoring umami. So you basically just get close to enemies and spam the ability. I don’t even know what the last several bosses’ moves were, they where trapped most of the time
The bobbit worm is easy mode on basically any boss or enemy that touches the ground. You can use it to cancel their moves, give time to heal or get new shell/hammer, and (what I mainly used it for) holding them in place just long enough for a charged attack/multiple light attacks for balance damage like crazy. Add the sponge and those multiple light attacks gives you another bobbit worm for free. I would summon tentacle and then bobbit them into oblivion.
Been running a pure msg build, pistol shrimp goes HARD with that talent that refunds you umami. The talent itself buffs your msg dmg by an insane amount, so you can effectively steamroll through locations gunning everyone down without ever really being at risk. I think this is THE best adaptation for common enemies in the game. Against bosses nothing beats royal wave spam. At 1 cost it allows you to wave, get in 4 attacks with the knife stowaway and repeat for crazy dps. Additional cool fact about the wave: each enemy killed will refund an umami point so you can gain like 3-4 umami points if you use it on isopods in the unfathom. Very pog
That's not a wave thing, that's a skill tree effect, which makes ANY Umami kill (Including spearfishing stuff, for some reason) give back 1 point of Umami
Mantis claw S tier if you use it right insanely high damage no matter what build your using and it unlocks several secret areas and also allows you to get the tentacle adaptation
Ok so you gotta hear me out. The Snail Sanctum is a shell, right? And with the self repair upgrade, if you take shell damage, the damage you deal is healed back, right? And the Sanctum doesnt use Umami Charges for spells, instead pulling directly from the shells health... See where im goin? If you let and enemy even slightly hit the shell, and then cast magic, any shell health used to cast the spell is immediately healed by the damage caused. I beat Firth second try with this technique. And since it never uses Umami, you can summon another one if it breaks with no worries. Its so busted.
topada is actually optional, i didn't find him until after beating the game. i really just got the map piece from heikea and yeeted myself out of there
@@TheeFURNAS_ Yep, completely missed the dude because on the path to his bossfight, I fell down a pit to get some rewards and forgot there was another path that led to topoda. Didn't find the guy until much later and realized how close I was to actually finding him.
I spent ages trying to find the way into the second half, even accidentally ending up in the ornament cave through Flotsam Vale, still not finding the way into the village, and only found it (And Topoda by proxy) shortly after looking it up after beating Petroch So yeah, as the idiot I am I have proven quite easily that this fight is very much optional
I actually find the shell really well. Though I do rock the helmet on my back every fight I use the umami shell on my fork. Anyone wondering how I do this, you just press down on the d-pad if you're playing on console, it'll swap your back and fork shells.
Actually the Snail Sanctum can be made pretty overpowered by slapping on two +2 Welks and a siphonophore and maxing out your umami level to 30. Its shell ability uses up durability instead of umami charges, so you can just spam the twinkle ability. I tested it, and its enough to get you through the whole game. Even bosses will go down easily with it.
The bubble gun is not necessarily good for damage, it's really just for keeping up capsize pressure for times when you jeed to heal, or quickly capsizing something when you've done enough capsize damage to it. With that said, I think the bubble gun is great at keeping up pressure and capsizing things when going for a heavy attack would be too risky.
eel is so S tier for how much damage it lets you do with fork without fear of being hit. it can also be used to not just stun but interrupt attacks enemies are charging
Mantis claw is my favourite right now. With the sinker stowaway whatever doesn't instantly die to the claw is capsized for an easy riposte. Not to mention its pretty fun to use too
The urchin was the second adaptation i got amd i used it in my fight against grove keeper topoda, it is a very useful adaptation that id out at high A tier to low S
I never used it cuz I hated how hard it was to actually hit, which makes me kinda sad I never upgraded it, since unupgraded it will virtually never hit unless you are in a very specific range and the enemy doesn't move. Still, hard to argue with that, wish I upped it to see the magnetism
Mantis punch is an S tier no doubt. I beat the game with it on ever since I got it . The argument with the long charge time and getting hit during it can be disproven by using level three to hit the enemy after an attack to get free balance and normal damage. Basically it’s S tier if you are good.
You didn't mention the best quality of the Umami shield: when equipped, your shell ability as well as other adaptations use up durability instead of umami charges. Given that they use up very little durability, it's almost like having infinite casts.
I ran tripple weights.(stagger/knockdown buff) and mantis punch knocked bosses down 100 percent of the time and pear that with the skill that lets you do a crit hit when you stun enemies and you take away half the bosses health in the first 5 seconds
Imo Mantis Punch is easy S Tier. Yeah it does have the downside of a long wind up but once you hit level 3 you really have no reason to even be taking hits unless the boss either has a ranged attack or a way to close distance fast. Even with literally 0 MSG investment it did good damage, a ton of stagger damage, can capsize enemies if the posture damage would have filled their bar, has insane hyper armor, and is a crazy gap closer. I abused it throughout the game and loved it every time I used it
Bobbit trap holds an enemy in place and increases damage taken, it’s ridiculously good on bosses and the fact it’s so far away from anywhere you’re likely to go is a shame
Royal wave is S tier it only costs 1 umami charge and does a lot of damage when fully upgraded. It’s by far the best value in terms of damage for umami cost
my run right now is my first one, and my go to combo is royal wave + tentacle with a hammer and it fucks up literally every boss. it makes the game easier than it already is. it makes the bosses last like 15 seconds, and it helps that i have close to if not equal msg (umami) and strength stats which boosts everything up so much more. bleached castle boss second phase went down super quickly because of my build. Bless Chitan for telling us about mantis shrimp guy, otherwise barely anyone would go to find him. I have used the built in umami shell a couple times too, because if you compare the stats to other shells, it's honestly one of the best shells in the game having the same stats as your home shell (only found this out in shell collection) being only a medium. I don't mind being a little encumbered so it's perfect having a 150 health shell with 50 def and a good spell at the ready at all times.
A popular combo I see is Mantis Punch then when a boss is capsized, use Royal Swipe. As you can just wail on the Boss you can get a lot of value out of the swipe
Look you've got some good insight but as a person who did a 30attack first then 30msg in two separate runs I can say with certainty the msg is the superior stat and with the bomb and bubble gun at 30msg and the get a charge when you kill with a spell you can just piggyback the bonus and one shot most all lowend enemies or a whole load of harder enemies. The tentacle is only S with both attack and msg, you gotta look at which stat could do the fastest run and while msg is a harder run to build it has much more reward. Even with the lug nut and two rusty nail pluses you get a lower highest stat from attack with the moon snail +15 overall you can get some really crazy late game stuff. Really what is S depends on which stat or stats you build but go make an msg file and try it, I promise that mine and gun with 10 resistance got me some insane stowaway combos and made farming plastics like I was using the assist gun. Thanks for supporting AggroCrab and ACT!
@@TheeFURNAS_ Yep, the only reason I can see it wouldn’t get best Indie Game is if HK Silksong releases before the Game Awards this year. That’s it. No exceptions.
As a power only build, bobbit trap was s tier until I found tactical tentacle. Mantis punch and the electric eel are b tier only because of their use outside of bosses and exploring the map. Bubble gun is c tier cause I only ever used it to lower an enemy’s health from a distance to make it slightly easier when I was traversing without heals. Royal wave is d tier because the duration of the damage buff was never long enough to warrant its umami usage, and the urchin is last cause I didn’t find out about it till the end of the game
royal wave is honestly the most deserving of S tier tho. the damage debuff lasts long enough to get some good hits in, but it is much better used when combined with something like your hammer if you use it plus a tentacle. try and and you'll see it just melts bosses left and right even more so than literally just playing the game. it's already easy enough but this just basically makes every boss easy mode. that and the damage debuff also acts on another royal wave, allowing you to reset the debuff, get huge damage in, and even more damage since the wave itself does so much more damage than a regular charged attack at base. Wave and mantis shrimp is a really good combo too, just not as broken as tentacle and wave
I know a godly thing about how the special stab during Capsize works, which is that it doesn't *stop* an attack that is already out, it just stops the *animation*, so I abused Royal Wave into instant cutscene stab to get an instant damage boost I even maxed it out in order to make it even easier to hit and give it more power, complete with being cheaper as well, I think it's the best one in the game, pretty much running only it and Eel power the moment I could (I built HEAVILY for stun, so more stun + attack interruption = goated)
my favorite combo and the one i used on the final boss was tentacle + mantis claw with sinker ++ sinker+ and sinker with red solo cup to maximize stun damage, starting the tentacle then immediately using mantis punch did like half his health and stunned him followed up by the take down attack phase 1 was done, i just did the same shit phase 2 and it was over
Yeah Bobbit trap and Tactical Tentacle are broken. Ive been doing a challenge run where i can't use a shell or level up. these two adaptions make it possible to get a boss down to half health before they even get a chance to attack you. Completely busted combo
