I named my 2005 auto the same exact name spelled exactly the same but had to get rid of it😢. 3 piece asanti rims and tuned up (still hurts to think about) so glad to see the soul of Krissy still catching looks ❤️
Hey Mike. You can use a blade to cut the leather off the steering wheel - just slice the stitching bit by bit and unwrap the leather. You'll be left with the soft rubber that the leather covers which will be the same colour - might just need a little clean up from glue residue. Cheers from Australia.
Chris Fix has a video on wrapping the wheel in leather and lacing it together. It looked like a professional job when done. Have a look. It would look good on this car.
Nice changes! Is your E brake missing its knob? 2 ideas on your wheel caps. Can you pull an emblem off your worst cap & glue it to that nice cap? Sand those caps & rattle can with a matching silver?
You could actually do it yourself. I used to do it back in the 70s & 80s for friends and relatives when I was a kid. I'm not sure if they still sell the leather kits.
Criss Cross, lol. They were the two kids who wore those clothes backwards.I went to school with my jeans on backwards in 7th grade because of them,my mom seen me when I got home and whipped my a$$,lol.Love your videos Mike, keep up the great work!!!
Well as my name is Chris I have to agree with the name .... But on a slightly more serious note (and I am sure you know) but its worth saying whenever you mess with airbags disconnect the battery for at least half an hour before you undo airbags (especially the steering wheel ones). They have a capacitor system and retain power for a while. Anyone who says "Oh I never do that" has been very lucky.
Hertz rental made the mistake of loaning a Crossfire to me. The transition from staid, responsible, adult male to a juvenile delinquent driving daddy's car was instantaneous. It was a long, dangerous, but accident free weekend. When I returned the Crossfire to Hertz I was so ashamed of my behavior I couldn't make eye contact with the agent, but I knew that they knew that I had been a baaaad boy. An interesting note: The Crossfire was assembled by Karmann, a custom coach builder for Mercedes Benz.
Chris fix did a video where he recovered his steering wheel with leather. If you can stitch that seat back together I think you could do the steering wheel too
Little bit old fashioned elbow crease, aka. cleaning goes a long way!! If you can find a place where they can re-wrap that steering wheel with leather kind of material it will be cool!
I refinished my Ford Edge steering wheel with the spray on dye. It's more like a paint. Try wet sanding the wheel first. YES you can wet sand leather. It will smooth out most of the imperfections and also clean it really well. I used product from www.colorbondpaint.com It was a perfect match. Very light coats and it dries almost immediately. I also did the armrest and part of the dash. It blends well and the gloss was a perfect match.
Next time you are near a parts store or a auto paint dealer, invest in a roll of butyl tape. It is invaluable for instances like with your trim piece with the broken clip.
@@jimnielsen4076 It's a good product, too, but butyl tape is actually s lot more moldable so it works better for sdd-shaped parts where the mating surface isn't totally flat
@@MonkeyWrenchMike that would be awesome. im really excited, I scanned my parts car for my front abc valve block and I now think I can swap them out and ill be good to go. the one on the parts car is a little different than the driving car. the one on the parts car is just like the one in the rear. the one on the driving car is encased in plastic with a smaller accumulator ball. any thoughts? let me know if my CL has something you need.
That is turning into a nice cool car. Don't you think you could find a good steering wheel in a salvage yard? Surely not everyone hung on the wheel while driving like that previous owner apparently did... 😏
Hey Mike, so are you up to the Copart 500 car 500 repairs max. road trip to Denver challenge? Big Al said he'd do it. Randy hasn't said yet. Or TK. Or samcrac. Everythings regular said he'd be interested in it. Think it would make excellent cross channel content for everyone. Reach new Sub bases. Hope you accept the challenge. I'm an hour from Denver and I'd go see you guys in Denver. I'd also help with the arrangements since I Know the area
Keep it up Mike, you will have a meteoric rise like AAR. One suggestion: instead of "My little monkey wrenches" how about "What's up Monkey Wrenchers". The my little monkey wrenches makes me sorta cringe.. just my opinion though, keep up the great work!
Nope, nope, I'm NOT searching for that song...........no......stop thinking about it, so yeahon another note that door panel will look real spiffy with some Mothers VLR and a gentle aggitation with a magic eraser

(Especially if she starts not running right on 1 cylinder!)What was the reaction of M.O.M. upon finding your stash of Mercedes Monthly magazines in your room growing up? Did she have "The Talk" with you about Mercedes being bad for your bank account?
Kriss Cross!!! :) Love it!
Thanks Mike! That damn song is stuck in my head now! "Jump! Jump!" 😆
Great video, the Crossfire is coming together nicely.

OMG!!! I saw those a/c knobs while eating and almost lost my lunch! Haha!
Test drove one of these when they 1st came out love the car although I could not afford it then
And another great video!!!

Sorry I am so late to this one mike🤙. This is looking absolutely great man
You could always get the steering wheel wrapped with leather , seen some shops before that do it
You could actually do it yourself.

The notch is there in the hubcap to pop it off when you need to change or rotate tires
Is it the Kris's Crossfire because it needs a "Jump Jump Jump" sorry couldn't resist... LMAO 😂 thanks Mike.
Criss Cross will make ya! JUMP JUMP!
Change steering wheels you can also take a little wet sandpaper and lightly it should take the ring notches out
Wow Looks Great..
I forgot you had the Crossfire still, you have so many things going right now.

It should be ''Ross Re'' like Randy's at AAR!!! Hahahaha! Happy New Year to you and your family, from Europe chap. :)
pretty work

Is your front right wheel further back more than it should be? It looks to be really close to the fender.
Watch the Chris fix video on wrapping the steering wheel in leather. It looks great 👍

hi mike from Danville pa
If I ever see one of these cheap, I'm gonna snap it up. Seems like the parts are hard to find, which always equals $$$.
One thing is for sure, Monkey Wrench Mike's videos are not wiggity, wiggity, wiggity wack!
Best.Comment.Ever.
How can we get you to upload more videos?
Ha! Give me 200k subscribers and I will quit my day job to focus on TH-cam!
Hahaha just sounds to easy!! 😂😅😅
@@MonkeyWrenchMike I'm on it👍👍👍
Is there maybe a saddle shop or something that could dye the steering wheel for you? Someone who does often basically.
You can buy leather kits
Any interest in buying AAR's 500 SL you recently worked on?
I have no more room to park any cars...
What do you do with the cars when you're done?
How do you avoid getting in trouble with the state about selling too many cars? Like Randy.
I keep most of them!
I have “considered thinking” several times, but just decided to be surprised by what I do next.

this may sound strange, but how do you do to have your panel off? my panel is always on, showing mileage (no light) and the tyre pressure light
I have always wondered one thing about TH-camrs. Why don't they clean the items before they put them on? It would be so much easier, wouldn't it?
I hope he reads this!

hey Mike, I need a brake light cover for my trunk. do you have an extra one? are there any parts on my cl you need?

Yeah. That was pretty disgusting.
I wash my hands a lot and still have to clean the steering wheel about once a month. I think it's the skin oils.
