I'm new to microgreens and gardening. Can you reuse the screen? How do you get the roots out? How do you measure the screen to fit exact? Do you have a method? And what do you use to cut it? Regular scissors? Also, for bigger seeds, are the roots able to be pulled out of the mesh bottom trays? I'd hate to have to buy a new tray each time I grew a tray. I saw your cutting with the electric knife video. But how do you remove the roots that are inter woven into the mesh bottom of the tray? You have a great method of growing. I like it so much better then dirt.
Yes, you can re-use the screen. Watch the last 3 or 4 videos on microgreens. It'll answer most of your questions. I try and show cleaning the roots off at harvest time. Screens can be cut by anything like paper--razor knife, scissors, or paper-cutter for example. Of course, you'd measure the bottom of a tray and mark the screen before doing it. I do sell the screens pre-cut as well if that's easier.
Hey Brent, very Nice channel. We are producing microgreens on coco and it becomes a lot of waste. So mesh would be a brilliant way to go. But how easy is it to clean? And how many times can you use them? Could you use them for NFT tubes you think??? Keep up the good work. Best regards from Norway🙂
Very easy to clean. Have a few videos showing it at harvest. Look for the latest micro grows and you'll see. I think Fennel was the last one. I've been using the same few screens for many months now and notice no degradation.

@@C3Voyage I'm afraid I don't follow. You're offering a product for purchase. Why not just set up a simple shopping cart somewhere and offer it up? Surely, you'd make more money! The credit card processor will take care of any fraud attempts. Respectfully, I don't see how adding the step of sending you an email addresses any trust issues, and it just introduces friction into the transaction.
@@michaelstarks7029 Ah, well, you asked me to post something here and it's against TH-cam policy. I thought your passing had to do with trust in emailing. Maybe scam/phishing potential. My spam fills quickly with it. I have a credit card pay merchant using invoice payment options through them. I just email the invoices along with my services. I do this myself with my trash company and my RV travel insurance. Some sites even drive the mail correspondence with "send us a message" and then an invoice is emailed. Options you know. I am one person in retirement. I don't mind a little extra money, but I don't want to create a lot of work, nor hire people to grow. I keep it steady, but not overwhelming. I couldn't do that with a website which I think is what you're inferring--an embedded pay merchant. In that case, my workload would be dictated by traffic and out of my control. AT least that's the way it appears to me with the avenues I've looked into. Right now, I create orders with shipping based on orders and part availability. Except for screen and antifungal, which is an easy turn-around, kits take time and are built to order. This has worked beautifully for a couple years now. I offer a service for those who don't want to build it themselves as outlined in my books. I'm currently 2 weeks in backorders. I do have a website that's been on hold for a while now for these reasons. I think the avenue I've chosen is normal for those in business similar to me. All "creators" (video posters) on TH-cam are a business. 95% plus anyway. Most of the rest are striving to get to the minimal benchmark to be a business. These creators often drive traffic somewhere whether it's a personal website, an Amazon "store", a sponsor (affliate) or like my case, email sales, Amazon, and affiliates. It's not uncommon. So, there's an extra step no matter what in TH-cam. Pay merchants, like PayPal use invoice payment options that make it easy for personal sales. I hope that helps clarify things and lets you know why I do it this way. I know you've passed, but you have an easy option to purchase from me should you choose it. Our communication is my attempt to be transparent which is important to me on the social media side of things. I think it's rude to just ignore people as most creators do. :O)
I can, yes. There is a bit of a backup log with tops due to the production of 2nd generation kits and shipping of material to me. It's a tad, uh, complicated with tops at the moment. The tops come in two sizes and can be cut to fit "on" the seed as is the case in the 1st generation kits or nested at the top of the mesh tray as I'm doing with 2nd generation kits. The size is also contingent on whether you're using the 1" mesh tray or the 2.5" mesh tray. The reason why this is the case at the moment is because I'm still trialing 2nd generation kits and the role "tall" micogreens play. All said, yes, I'm going to offer two versions depending on what height tray people are using. You can put in a pre-order or you can wait for the video where I discuss all the options which I hope to have out within 2 to 3 weeks.
Hey Chris! I've grown 3 or 4 organic grows before including using azomite as one ingredients in a kelp grow. Organics just don't do well in a clean hydroponic environment because they require bacteria to break it down so the plants can use the nutrients. In IHG, keeping bacteria and disease out is critical. I've not tried growing in media (soil/coco/etc), but I haven't seen many who can get the results I get so I just can't fathom using soil at this point when I can grow everything very well without it. Some straight organic-produced clean fertilizers include kelp liquid, ocean solution, and Chilean sodium nitrate. I had decent results with them.

All you gotta do is shoot me an email. I am the source for food-grade. The other link is superscreen and not food-grade.. My email is in the description, but here it is as well: c3voyage@gmail.com. I'm not sure what link you're clicking on that takes you back to the video.
Brent
do you have any recommendations for certified food grade 1020 growing trays???
thanks in advance
I use Bootstrap Farmer. They're in my store, link in description. They list their trays as "Made from recycled food-safe polypropylene (PP #5) plastic."
After harvesting, how to clear the roots from the tiny little grids?
It's easy. I show it a few times in different videos. Check out my microgreens playlist th-cam.com/play/PLyTv0Nr3KOXlcStKUQ53hU9FumuypyIit.html and look for a broccoli, cabbage, or kale video from 2019 or 2020. It'll likely be in one of those. Basically, I use my finger tips and scrape most off, then wash it with a nylon surfaced sponge with dishwashing soap, and a final rinse. Really easy.
May I ask at what strength is the hydrogen Peroxide you have in the water you spray @ 15:15?
Sure, 4 tablespoons of 12% HP. Will not store longer than a couple days. HP deteriorates quickly.
@@C3Voyage - I bought a gallon of 35% HP. The dilution for 3% is 1:12 HP to water. Is it 3% HP you're spraying? How high can I go with it without hurting the little fellers? Living in Orlando I have to watch for mold all the time. The grow room is under a big tree. The room has had mold. I plan to get an ozone generator.
Where can I find mesh like you’re for a 1020 tray? Please help thanks
It's in the description! Chat soon.
Please list the prices for the mesh screens w/shipping in the description or here.
I can't do that, but you can email me and ask. My email is in the description.
@@brentmontgomery849 I'll pass, but thanks for the quick reply.
@@michaelstarks7029 If it's a trust thing, I wrote 2 books. There are comments on both of them on Amazon. I have two support groups for microgreens as well. I am retired Air Force with 28 years in the department of defense. I understand that there are scum everywhere from money-grabbing and deceitful folks, but there are rules on TH-cam that I cannot break. There is no angle from me. Best to you ok Michael.
HAPPYNEW YEAR bud
Back at you Bob!
hi. I still don't understand, do you put the load on top ?
Yes, seed goes on top of screen. This is just for the screen part. This video might help explain a bit more: th-cam.com/video/buC9MYcra3k/w-d-xo.html
Does anyone use stainless steel mesh screen?
So you can re use the screens?
Yes, over and over. Biggest reason I went this route.
@@C3Voyage is there a limit on how long you can reuse them for?
@@JonnnyStorm If there is Jonny, I haven't reached it yet. :O)
Sorry, but I can't find your store, what is the URL to get to your store?
It's in the description of the video. If you can't see all of the description, click "see more".
Do you sell this new 3 lbs green top??
How much would you sell 50 1020 cut screens each for:
-Leek
-brassica
-pea/sunflower (if you even use a screen)
I don't use screen for pea/sunflower. Grow directly in tray. Most others I do. Screen prices are in the video description.
Oh shoot I didnt see that part thanks. Are leek/onion seeds grown best with the small mesh screen or the medium screen. ?
@@heyphilphil I grew on medium last time and it went well.
Hydro-peroxide spray? Parts Water and peroxide?
2 tbs/liter.
Why not azomite, worm casting, enriched soil for microgreen?
Next...Can the screens be cleaned, sanitized and reused?
Yes, it's the #1 reason I created IHG--not having to keep purchasing media.
@@C3Voyage Trust me you are the best!!! Keep on doing the great work you are doing. Are you available for us to have a chat on the phone? I will call you. If, "Yes" you can email me your contact info at naturetouchfarms@gmail.com
Thank you! I can have interactive conversation in a few ways, but I don't give out my phone number or personal address. It's an agreement I made with my wife and family when I went "public". In the beginning, we had two sour experiences right off the bat. If you want to chat, email is ok, here in comments is an option, and Facebook messenger via the microgreens group are all good with chat being real-time. So, share what you're thinking in one of those formats please.
@@C3Voyage Point taken. I agree with you. Facebook Messenger is fine for me.
@@C3Voyage Can you please explain the way you remove all the old root system from the screen? I assume it is a lot of work and it is best done when the roots are brittle dry?
Hi, I'm following you from Europe from the Netherlands, I have problems to find the screen here in Europe. Does someone find it here ?
Not that I've heard.
One more question, what do you do about gnats? I soaked sunflower seeds and have a bunch of gnats.
I buy from True Leaf seeds. Link is in the description. There shouldn't be any bugs capable of surviving in sealed seed containers, but my book also shows how to soak various seeds and which ones among tons of information explaining how I grow. I also keep a Katchy bug catcher in the grow room. It's in my store as well under microgreens I think. Maybe hydroponics.
Is it true that all the seeds from a female asparagus plant arent going to be female plants?
True
thinking of trying again but now I need to get an iron and ironing board, when will it ever end, ha ha
Now that's funny. :O)
I just send you an email, inquiring about the SCREENS, POLYPROPYLENE FOOD-GRADE. Can you please get back to me ASAP? Thanks!
You bet. Sent you the info in an email reply.
No links for the screens? Is this clickbait?
Oh, absolutely not. Sell them all the time. In the video at the end and in the description, it says to contact me by email to order c3voyage@gmail.com.
No, it's not clickbait. At the end of the video, it says to see the description, and in the description, it says to email me for screen orders. c3voyage@gmail.com
If it was easy this guy would be farming microgreens but he doesn't.
If you knew how many stories folks, from around the world, have shared how IHG has changed their lives, you might not make that assessment. The book has 4.8 of 5 stars. Watch some of my videos over the years. I'm a good person with integrity. I am retired. I don't need to work. I started it all due to having diabetes and improving my health. I'm hoping an honest comment might get us off on a better start if you're up for it.
I sent you an email
Responded. :O)
Use cheese cloth once and throw it away.
Hey Gary! I tried it. It's material you have to cut, it has no rigidity, and it stains and gets nasty in some cases. Great idea though.
Oh, and it's a continual cost.
@@C3Voyage Shoot, Heck, Darn , thought I might have had a good idea.
@@garytidwell9250 Gary, innovation comes from ideas that are tested. It was a great idea. When you test an idea, you then either rule it out or expand on it. That's what I do anyway. You're on the right path as far as I'm concerned.
I'm about to look through your videos for a cleaning all screens video to reuse. God bless you and your family in the name of Jesus Christ for it is written;
1 Corinthians 3:6-8 King James Version (KJV)
6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
