The biggest thing that sucks with the wind this high up is what you squeegee off often blows up on what you just cleaned. Another is the heat/sun, you do not want warm water and you have to squeegee quick before it evaporates. Tallest I did was 30 stories, it is all the same once you get over 20 stories., I would do it again, just not there.

All I see is a malfunction NIGHTMARE just waiting for it's right moment & time to happen when it's least expected, this is crazy. Risking your life just to clean a freakin' window. I would've only made it worse barfing on them everytime I looked down all day. I could only do this wearing a parachute. I guess it's an easy job though if you can handle heights like this.
But in reality is it really risking your life just because its high up? Very few accidents actually happen. I doubt you would you say the same if you had a job where you had to drive a company vehicle given the fact there are hundreds of people killed on the roads every day.

They do it for the money. I'm very sure the pay and benefits are superior to most terrestrial jobs. The men that climb cell towers to change light bulbs are paid about $25k per climb. If heights aren't a worry and you are in good physical shape that can be easy money.

Sun Beam MImi we don’t know all THAT much about the ancients... I believe they had a lot of technologies and were actually quite intelligent and advanced in their own right. They didn’t have computers or combustion engines but their knowledge of forces and tools, and mechanical technologies I’m sure allowed them to build the pyramids. Though it would have still been painstakingly slow.

Well, they do have automatic cleaners for most of the building. If I'm not mistaken it's only certain spots that are manually cleaned.

I've technically been to Dubai before (although I didn't leave the airport) and there was a lot of advertisements for all of the cool tourist attractions, however, I'm pretty sure the UAE's government is just as crazy as the rest of the Middle East.

a parachute wouldnt do anything because it would catch on the side of the building, the only way it would work is if they pushed off the side of the building first.

You could not pay me enough to do that job. I'm not to bad on heights, I used to be a brick wall cleaner and cleaned plenty of jobs 30 or so metres high or so with brick facades but this is just something else. These guys are truly brave in my opinion. I take my hat off to you for giving it a try.👍

They do have a machine on the building, they even designed a fancy mechanical window system to hide it, but they found that it's more efficient to use some poor people on strings instead.
Windows come in many shapes and sizes. Stains come in many forms, from rain drops to bird shit. Squeegee blades need replacing, machines break down.
You'd need a custom solution for every building. It won't be perfect, it'll still leave streaks and mess. You'll need RA techs to go over for maintenance anyways.
It takes less than a week to train and certify a RA tech in the skills to clean any window of any size. They'll be more thorough and they don't need maintenance.
Logistically it's just easier this way, and who knows how much those machines will cost to design and implement.
These people deserved to be paid just as much as celebrities.

I have always been scared of heights throughout my 67 years, but now over the past ten years I have started hill and ridge walking (like the CMD arête) where it is high and steep enough to frighten, but I have forced myself to come to terms with it to conquer my fear. I find one I am up there and occupied I am ok - as the say 'don't look down'. Nice to see Dubai from so high, my late wife and I spent much time there when we lived and worked in the Middle East (Qatar and later Kuwait). We would fly down for a days shopping and sometimes, like over Christmas and the New Year spent a week of two. The Dubai Metro Railway had just started being built when we first went in 2007. I still have all the gold and diamond jewellery that I bought Maureen in the Gold Souqs on those visits, even though she has been gone 5 years, wonderful happy memories.

They are probably safer than a window cleaner on a ladder. I used to clean around retail premises and have had people walk into the ladder, skateboarders collide with it and even people back their cars into it. All this and I used to put down cones and signs for safety.

In my experience it doesn't take too long before it is just a boring job and the height really is no big deal at all. Really the worst part of window cleaning is the long term effect on your health from repetitive stress of holding a squeegee and torquing your finger and wrist joints. I have some serious osteoarthritis in my fingers from 28 years of window cleaning.

Clean windows reflect more sunlight than dirty windows which helps to keep the building cool and use less electricity for air conditioning. Especially since it's out in the desert.

Even though I know that the rope is 99.98% safe I still wouldnt be able to hang from the side like that or even repel. My brain wouldn't be able to comprehend such a thing. If someone forced me at gunpoint to do it I might do it but even then is be wailing like a babe all the way down. This as a job would be ridiculous. This is coming from a guy who's in the 82nd Airborne division and has jumped hundreds of times. Also Air Assault qualified but wouldnt do this.

Some people have no fear of heights and these men are obviously that type. My brother as a kid would sit on a window ledge 30 storeys up looking straight when on holiday in a Spanish hotel. He'd sit there eating his lunch until my parents shouted at him, he has never had fear of heights. So if you're scared you couldn't do it. These men are obviously like my brother and I bet they get paid well because not many like them.

If you work offshore it is. Unfortunately it's not amazing money for window cleaners and painters. Still good though. The better money comes with other qualifications. Like also being an electrician or welder for instance.

Put it this way. My standard fee is £125 a (week)day. If I was just window cleaning for instance. I'm only a level one. If I'm painting or using other trades, my fee goes up according to the job and it's size. Sone jobs I can charge around £200 a day atm, but I'm still relatively new. Once I become a L2 with rigging qualifications and blade inspection for wind turbines the money will rise rapidly.
It would be cool if they can set up a sliding board that spirals around the building.
