It's these reasons like these why benchmade can get away with the butterfly tax. I'm rooting for case and glad to see them broadening their lineup

I've always felt like my Benchmade's come with an edge just barely better than those of Case's. It's insane how close they are, how Benchmade's edges are just as bad as literally the worst edges in American knife making, Case's. Atleast you can pretend to not care about the shit grinds on your traditional knives because they're mostly for looks. But modern American tactical? Idk.

I have always loved Case knives. In fact, I own roughly twenty. In my opinion though, they should stay with traditional patterns that they do so well, just use modern materials. I would love to see higher end steels and more modern handle materials on their traditional patterns. To me, that would be awesome!

Wouldn't that be amazing? They do have a knife center exclusive stockman and trapper in S35vn . Although it doesn't have a traditional nail nick . its milled through . like an oval hole .

Yep this. Wish they would off some super steels on their traditionals. It ain't got to be a ton of different steels but quality steel on a tradition would be awesome! GEC needs to do it too.

I got the Marilla a while back and was thinking of getting the Kinzua drop point, but yeah, everything said in this video was what prevented me from picking it up, and applied to the Marilla as well. I think it won the BladeShow award just because it was a departure from the norm for Case and didn't reflect the design at all.
Hope when/if they put out some more modern folders in the future, they take all of these grievances to heart and improve.

I am with you, I really want case to succeed. I have been a case fan my whole life. I purchased three case knives this year. One from World War II, one from the mid 70s, and a brand new one from this year. The two older ones are phenomenal. They are like brand new. The one I got from this year has some serious fit and finish issues. I don’t believe that management at Kay’s will have any chance to hear about our concerns. When I called regarding the knife I purchased from 2022 I got a really horrible customer service representative. That’s probably one reason they will never live up to our expectations. Customer service is the middleman and honestly I don’t think they care whether or not the customer is happy.

I want this knife BECAUSE of the pry bar thick blade, lol. I worked at a gunshop where everyone swore by benchmade but they kept snapping the blades with pretty light work. They just seem so flimsy. I'd rather have a sturdy knife with a bulky clip then something I can't trust for my day to day

Im guessing 90% of you dont know what case is marketed for...FARMERS/FARMING..when your out in the field/pasture, youre not worried about "slicey",smaller flipper,ect..its meant to be a WORKING tool..thicker blade, sturdy clip...thats what works

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  ปีที่แล้ว

I know exactly what they are for, I was a construction worker over 20 years and have worked on Farms and yards. And that's why I'm critical, It's about it making sense there's a level of which is counter productive, I understand wanting to use your knife as a multi tool believe me I do, and in those cases you want strength in your blade but there's still a limit, and the rest of the blade needs to match that strength. The ergos, lock, stop pin, etc.. should also be strong and comfortable. Don't take what I say into consideration if it's working for you and you love it, I'm happy you found a good tool that works well for you

These details are critical however for manufacturers to be the most successful possible. Excellent video Jerad.

I had the same thoughts when these came out. My first impression was, wow, that is a great looking knife, and for a USA made the price was not too bad. However, after watching a few reviews, I came to the same conclusions you have mentioned. Access to the lock (especially for a lefty), combined with blade thickness, turned me off from a purchase.

  • @Cid_1

It's like so many of these old companies are stuck in their old ways and terrified of improvement and change for the better. Once they finally listen and release something that is more "modern", they are 10 years behind on what people expect in that price range. On a rare occasion they hit it out of the park, but I believe that is pure luck and not by design (or because someone involved or with close eyes on the community has guided them). It's a shame that some of these companies with so much history and knowledge can't get things right. I think most people would love to see these old companies be able to compete in the modern market, so hopefully they get it sooner or later.

Excellent review. The simply reality is that there are hundreds if not thousands of knife purchasing options presented to consumers nonstop (especially if your a collection or enthusiast keeping on top of the industry). To produce a knife that compares to what we were seeing a few years ago or is more like a budget quality knife, for the price point, is simply disappointing. I root for Case as well, and love their slipjoints and have for years, but if they are going to enter this arena, please do it with gusto!!! Even if it was $300 + a knife. Not mediocrity!

On a side note, a US made s35vn knife that size with that thick of a blade for ~$110, i can accept a few misses on minor details. This would be easily a $200 knife if it were a benchmade or any other major brand us or otherwise.

Problem with big makers like these they tend to rely on their name to push past all the little things they didn't get right on a knife. Most of the people buying these knives are going to be regular Case customers who aren't necessarily into modern folders but will buy it because it has the Case name on it, and for a company that has been in business as long as Case has they should know what's appealing to customers based on the competition and reviews that knives have gotten up to this point. Pretty simple to see that this knife could have been great with a few changes, but hopefully they learn from what they did wrong and make a better product in the future. Thanks for the great vid Jerad and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.

I bought for my old man, who is a collector. But, I would never buy for myself. At $160, there are much better options. And that will be the problem with this knife. I'm old enough to remember when the U.S. manufactured everything we needed. In fact, German, Swiss, Japanese and Chinese people used to come here and buy up product to take back home cause our products used to be such good quality.

Case is so hit or miss. Their knives are twice the price, and half the quality of something like Rough Rider Reserve... I won't buy one unless I can handle it first and inspect it. So many of them have weak springs, or strong springs with blade rap... Proud pins that keep working themselves out, cracked scales, blades rubbing.
American Made doesn't mean what it used to. Lots of fat lazy Americans who take no pride in their work, making fun of the Chinese brands that run circles around them at half the price...
There isn't a US made knife under $100 worth a damn... Especially not when a $30 knife from China is vastly superior almost all of the time...

    • @9thchamber499

Instead of blaming the 'fat lazy American worker', perhaps you should place the blame on our corrupt politicians who rigged the game and sold us out to an enemy who is openly waging economic warfare on us?
All I'll say is, sure took them long enough to figure out how to make semi quality knives. But it's really no surprise. Innovation and excellence are traits that come naturally to FREE countries where competition drives innovation. Our enemy is lacking that motivating factor. But YEARS of copying/stealing designs and ideas and infiltrating our govt, schools, and industry has allowed them to achieve their goal.
Just collect more Rough Ryders. I'm sure the enemy is close to finishing their plan. They might need a few more dollars for a nuclear submarine. Hope you're ready for more lockdowns and social credit scores! If you're lucky maybe they'll let you keep your knife collection, but I highly doubt it.

@@9thchamber499 I am not talking about copying designs. I am talking about several companies over there, working with famous designers, and cranking out better knives than we make here, at a better price. Even Microtech is now partnering with Rike, because Anthony can't make a SOCOM Bravo that good, at anywhere near that price point,. If Rike makes it at $370, then Anthony making it would cost over a grand and nobody would buy it.
And while our politicians are indeed scumbags, they didn't rig the game as much as you think. When we make it cost prohibitive to do business here, many companies will look to outsourcing to stay competitive.
In the 1980's it cost American car makers $77 per hour to make a car. A lot of that was labor, benefits, pensions, in addition to materials, taxes, etc... It cost Toyota only $44 an hour to make a car, and it was a vastly better car. So people started buying Japanes cars in droves, because they were cheaper AND better quality.
Apparently we as a country didn't learn our lesson, because we did the same with electronics, and now we are doing it with the knife industry.

Don’t apologize for calling it like you see it. I appreciate this review because I have had my eye on this new Case series for some time now. The Marilla and the Luzinga (weird names). I have a few Case traditional pocket knives and love them. When this new effort came out I didn’t do backflips and handstands. Frankly, they look boring. Most off-putting is the price. How much are we expected to pay for the Case name? Additionally, I say screw “American Made”! Am I trying to buy a cool functional knife or am I trying to make some kind of patriotic statement. I’m a patriot. I don’t have to prove it with my knife buying preference. I have no problem buying Chi-Com (Chinese-Communist) knives. They’re good and so much more affordable.

A very simple & good looking knife, the kinda knife I’d like to have. Until I saw the price $200 for the knife pictured here. Are they serious? No way would I pay that kinda money for this knife..!

The quality is not consistent. One is shit and one is good enough. I won’t be buying a Case modern style knife any time soon.

I think Case wants to make the most money per unit instead for making/and selling 1,000,000 and making 1$ per unit? Quality Case will sell Millions .

In the beginning God created Heaven and Earth. He created humans too to have a relationship with Him. That's our purpose as humans that have a relationship with God. Sin, however, messed that up because it made us imperfect and imperfect creatures cannot have a relationship with a perfect and holy God. That's why we so oftentimes feel empty, unsatisfied and unaccomplished because we're not in relationship with the God we were created to be in a relationship with. But that's where Jesus comes in. Jesus is God's son and He came down to earth in human form to live the same life we do yet unlike us He never sinned. Jesus is perfect. Yet despite the fact He is perfect He died on the cross for our sins and sacrifice Himself for us. The punishment for our sins is death but because Jesus took that punishment for us if we put our faith in Him and receive Him as Lord and savior we can be reconciled to God and be restored to that relationship we were created to have. And we can be sure that Jesus is the Son of God because on the 3rd day God raised Him from the dead and in that He defeated death and the grave, proving that He can do the same for us if we put our faith in trust in Him. That's how you get to Heaven. That's how you become full in your heart. That's how you become reconciled to the God who created you.

Random spiel but, okay. Btw, if God is real, he created us imperfect. He also set up Adam and Eve to fail by putting them in the very same garden as the tree they weren't supposed to eat from (tree of the knowledge of good and evil). Sure, the serpent told them to eat from the tree, but how would they have known it was evil to disobey God if they didn't have the knowledge of good and evil to begin with? It's like putting a toddler in a room with a loaded gun on the floor and telling them not to touch it and then leaving to go mow the yard or something. Shouldn't be surprised if you hear a gunshot soon after, the toddler didn't know better, neither did Adam and Eve.

I'd love to own this knife I'd someone paid me to take it off their hands. Like who is the person at Case who literally says "let's do it this way"? Makes you want to call that specific person and ask them WHY! I mean do they have no involvement with the knife community? With Internet and social media and everything available to us there's just no excuse for getting things so wrong.
