I was so impressed with the Marilla that I ordered another one a week later. I've never done that with a knife before, and I have way too many knives. Love supporting 🇺🇸 manufacturing.
I just purchased another Marilla. I have a love hate relationship with this knife. It is a great knife, the two mushrooms that hold the pocket clip run me crazy. I can not understand why Case can't find a flat screw. I will be at the local Lowe's buying flat screws, again
I benched my kinzua last year shortly after receiving it because of the pocket clip screws, drove me absolutely nuts needing two hands to pocket it. Still has the factory edge
Kinzua is pronounced without the a: "Kinzoo." Its the name of a lake in the Allegheny National Forest near Case's factory in PA. I have had my eye on these knives for a while, but the reviews are really mixed. Despite the price, Buck and Spyderco seem like much better value for US made knives.
I own them both. I bought them at the big Case cutlery store in Lebanon MO. Your assessment is spot on! I also noticed the difference in the flipper detente. I don't carry them. I bought them to support Case. I love Case and Buck and I too get excited to see modern designs from them. I love to see the good material they are using. American pride in craftsmanship. Keep it up. I'll keep coming back. BTW, I EDC a ESEE 3. I don't carry folders, so it's not like there's something else kicking Case out of my pocket.
Hey I know I’m late to this comment but case is coming out with three edc fixed blades called the hunter CT1,CT2,CT3. You might like them since you like fixed blades and case! Just thought I’d pass on the info
I. have the exclusive SMKW version of the Marilla w/ CF insert. Very nice, solid build. I like the blade design and steel. The one issue is the detent is way too week which hinders the flipping/opening, which causes more flicking then should be necessary for a knife at this price point.
I've been eyeballing the Marilla in Magnacut - just struggle w/dropping ~$150 bucks on a style that doesn't blow me away. I feel like if it wasn't in Magnacut I wouldn't even look at it twice
I'm a big fan of Case traditional slipjoints, and when they came out with these modern knives I was excited to see them. I got a Marilla with a green handle a couple months back, and I am very happy with it. Mine locks up rock solid too, and is very comfortable in hand. Real workhorse of a knife. I agree about the clip screws, I have the same issue but I may try to replace them with something smaller. Great review!
Oh lord, grandpa can now start carrying a frame lock EDC. All joking aside, I'm really glad Case has made this move. Next? Where can we fit John Deere, Ford and Chevrolet logos on there?
Great vid on a knife company that goes back to the late 1800s. Case knives are great everyday workhorses. I have several. I actually have my Dad's case pocket knife he carried going back as far as WWII. It is a relic and still a great knife.
I love that Case is entering the modern knife world! I like to buy US made when I have a choice. I don't like frame locks, and I hate those clip screws.
My first pocket knife was a Case 2 blade trapper I cut the end of my finger almost off that same Christmas lol I was 11 also the same year I got my first big rifle a 243.
I personally like titanium on my knives but it doesn’t stop me from buying a good knife with aluminum or G-10 or any other handle material either lol, I do really like s35vn and cpm 154 blade steel though,Holds a great edge and easy to sharpen back up 👍,Great Video though thanks buddy 🙏🏻
I was able to get the Marilla in Magnacut. I freaking love this knife. The build, the action, the blade steel. All awesome. The clip...well, I understand why they did the little clip, but they could have at least done recessed screws. For what the knife brings, I will take the not so awesome clip.
They were under done I think 59rc or something low like that. Most brands are now doing magnacut at 62-64rc. So you paid more but didn't get anything more other than a name.
@@sheltermonkey6065 I don't think you read the article Larrin did. But common sense says that the best balance is between 62 and 64. These are pocket knives not large chopping tools. It would be better to just use cruewear if you wanted toughness. This was negligence. Or they were just trying to sell a product based on a bill of material's than actually doing any research what so ever.
Great review that touches on all the highs and lows. I've been going back and forth on getting a Marilla since they came out but have always hesitated. Can't believe there's never been a Case knife on this channel! Also not 100% surprised I guess since you mostly like more modern knives. I do enjoy a nice classic trapper from Case!
G'day Aaron, I've been looking forward to you showing the Marilla in more detail. Definitely my cup of tea and hard to beat S35 for the dough IMO, but man.........those screws. Yes you could go c/sunk in the home workshop with care, but just don't do it in the first place. One would've thought Case with such a long and distinguished history would be on top of that. Cheers Duke.
For the materials,at the price point,I ordered the kinzou.....the framelock gets a thumbs up from me as well.... although I'm partial to my Benchmade axis locks .... something about the esthetics of a frame lock draw me in.
Excellent review sir. Saving me money again. From your comment section Case has apparently fixed the issue with the pocket clip screws. Still doesn't do it for me.
I'm not a fan of aluminum tbh. Case and other companies need to get onbaord with g10 or micarta before many of the Chinese companies make them obsolete. Want a good flipper with better materials and you aren't set on buying only American made...just get a civivi or kiser or other similar company.
I love traditional case knifes think I'm buy the mini trapper and try to put the nicer blade steel in a swiss army knife like * fit to survive,* does with the spider co blades
I have a smallish collection of Case traditionals. Love them. Every now and then when one catches my eye I pop the cash. I occasionally carry them - work well for what they are. Good office/gents knives. However, despite loving their traditional folders these knives just don't do it for me. Not sure why. I've heard lots of very positive feedback so quality etc. is not an issue 🤔. What I would like to see is Case upping some of the materials (esp. steel) on more of their traditionals. Sharp blades all.
I know I’m a month late on this comment but I agree with you,Love to see some s35vn or CPM 154 on the copperback knife,And some of their other slip joints
Those clip screws! 😵 Beyond that, aluminum is my least favorite scale material. Especially over $100, the only kind of metal I want for scales is titanium. Otherwise, Micarta is so much more comfortable.
I agree with everything you touched on. I think Case, needs to jump on it, and very quickly get some “CQC” updated models, on the market, and consider these as prototypes! It should be no problem at all, for them to assess and correct these small, but critical details. This is the exact kind of thing, that makes or breaks a modern quality pocket knife.
The designs look rather underwhelming... they have a gas station knife vibe. Sorta like the knife patterns you saw in mailorder catalogs from the 1990s. Would have liked one of their traditional patterns with the modern materials at that price-point better.
I was so impressed with the Marilla that I ordered another one a week later. I've never done that with a knife before, and I have way too many knives. Love supporting 🇺🇸 manufacturing.
Case knives need more love not just from Gideons Tactical but the knife community good review
Hahaha 👍

I still have my grandfather’s case. I also have my own just like his only different color. I love that case is finally getting more modern

Osh kosh bgosh????
I don't get it unless it says Ford or John Deere! 💪🏼🍏
Was surprised to see a tanto flipper from Case. Huge departure from their normal style. I do want to try the Marilla at some point.
Thanks for the thorough review. I've been looking at these two and this answered some questions.
Glad to help 👍

you could just take a drill the size of the screw head on the pocket clip, and drill it out a bit, like half way in.
I love that Case is entering the modern knife world! I like to buy US made when I have a choice. I don't like frame locks, and I hate those clip screws.
Sword fish & Sailfish similar but different . I like both of those knifes .
Great review! I have been curious about these for awhile. I have always loved Case slipjoints so a Case flipper is intriguing.
Looking at the Kinzua tanto for my Medium hands. Thanks for the info!

Case says Kinzua is pronounced "Kinzu".
If I recall correctly it's named for a place near the factory.

Thanks Aaron; both good looking knives. I think the Kinzua in Tanto would be sweet.
I just picked up the Marila for $105 at Smokey Mtn Knives.
Those pocket clips are a deal breaker.
I have both of those! Both of mine are great 👍👍
now that they are around $165.00 not worth it at all!
The marrilla is $179 on bhq!!

I really need to get a Marilla
Pronounced “Kin-Zoo” like the state park. Native American word means “fish on spear”.
Both look good, I like the case one a little better.
Their both Case knives.
Elons gonna have to save case too
Kinzua (KEN-zoo)

They should have done some more research before they designed that pocket clip. 💀
Ya totally 👍
Any knife is better than no knife in my opinion. I like em. Except for the stupid names!
We’re those Eno straps you cut? 😂
While these are good looking knives I’m going to stick with my traditional folders from Case.
Ya old ones that ripped a seem
I will add, that I would proudly buy from Case knives, once they’re squared away. And they’re oh so close.
Have kinzua the finish is too slick not secure
You know it's OK. But I think I'll stick to my BUCK knives.

Case does absolutely nothing for me. Their fit and finish is lacking. Materials are meh.
Pronounced kinzoo
Ugly knives in my opinion; the only EDC going on here will always be a Spyderco Police C07S
😁😆😅🤣😂🤣. Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder.
Meh, looks old. Looks blocky and has gas station vibes. This is like taco bell serving cheeseburgers.
That’s a hot take 😀
Look like gas station knives.
I think flippers are from lazy knife making. Great video.
Not interested
I bet you hear those words a lot.
What else "Two Words: Made In America" was introduced in Biden's 2021? 🤔🤦♂️🤣
Next year is going to be AMAZEBALLS.
