It's cool that you managed to get the exact right amount of detail in these videos. I legit think you're doing a thing that nobody has ever really done before. It's easy to find people talking about Zelda or playing it or speedrunning it but doing an actual step-by-step walkthrough while also being entertaining is, I think, completely novel. I wish these videos would start getting like 5M views so that it would become an entire genre.

@@lukasketner True. But some of the games Nintendo Power covered aren't as in depth, and the strategies alter a bit to still give you a run. For example. NP suggests in MegaMan 1, to tackle Bomb Man first. Which a lot of people do. Whereas UCBVG Suggests Fire Man first. The game, while beatable starting with Bomb Man, was easier with Fire Man's weapon throughout, because it didn't use as much energy as the Hyper Bomb, and was tactically just as or more effective in a number of stages.

This is the only time my mother and I needed to call the Nintendo help line.
We tried bombs, wands, staves, the hammer and running into it and everything EXCEPT pulling on it. For some reason, we just never thought of it. Maybe we subconsciously thought we had already tried it? We explored the world and did as much as we could until that was the only thing left to do, gave up, and called the hotline. We felt dumb, but it was worth it.
[related but off topic a little]
My mom always played games with me, often taking turns at the controls of the RPG and adventure games, and defeating them together. She used to read and explain the various text with each game to me. As I got older, I read - with her help - and asked questions. I was eventually able to read and understand the games on my own. She passed away in 1999. I think one of if not the last game we beat together was OoT. There just weren't many good RPG/Adventure games for the N64. She never lived to see BioWare RPGs. She would have loved KotOR, Mass Effect and Dragon Age for example. I was able to keep the tradition going with my sister - who recently gave birth and wants to do the same with her son.

A few helpful tips for this part of the game that weren’t mentioned, you can actually get through and beat the ice palace without the fire rod by instead using bombos on the ice golems and melting kholdstare, also the trigger to unlock the super bomb at the dark world bomb shop is having beaten both the ice palace and misery mire palace, with this information my preferred order to do the dark world dungeons is 1-4-6-5-2-3-7 this insures you’ll get the sword upgrades as soon as possible and can have the golden sword and blue mail for dungeons 2,3, and 7. I also do 6 before 5 because i like having the cane of somaria to skip the annoying block puzzle in the ice palace. just make sure to grab bombos and the 1/2 magic upgrade asap after dark palace and maybe some green potion for ice palace and it makes a really fun route!

My theory is that if a Wise Man had no descendant then the magic of that Wise Man simply would have disappeared from the world, and Agahnim would not have been required to offer up a maiden to break that part of the seal. Another possibility is that the Wise Man's magic would have returned to his respective temple, and then Agahnim would have been required to seek out a descendant of a more recent Sage from that temple, if not that existing Sage. So if the Wise Man of Fire had no descendants, Agahnim either would have offered up no one at all, or if an offering was required, it would have to be Darunia or Link. Goron Link, that is.
As for Zelda's comment about her always feeling that Link was the Legendary Hero, at the time this likely referred to when Link saved her in The Legend of Zelda. But since Ocarina of Time, this would refer to their meeting in the courtyard. That's why Ocarina of Time included dialogue about Zelda having a dream about Link appearing like a ray of light from the forest. It also explains why she was so quick to trust Link with the task of claiming the Triforce.
And yes, this is the fifth time Link has saved this Zelda. Once in Ocarina, once in the Oracle games, once in Legend of Zelda, Adventure of Link was a different Zelda, and twice in A Link to the Past.
2:16:16 I think you can use the Fire Rod to light that torch from the upper platform to reveal the path.
The Triforce grants all wishes of its wielder, not just one. Also, it wasn't explained in A Link to the Past, but Ganon never actually touched the Triforce in this game. Ocarina explains that simply entering the Sacred Realm will turn it good or bad depending on the person's heart. So the Essence of the Triforce, in context of the larger plot, was explaining that Ganon's wish to conquer the world is what turned the Sacred Realm into the Dark World. It was from there that Ganon planned to build his power, then send out his army to take over Hyrule as well. The fact Ganon was just a spirit means he couldn't touch the Triforce anyway, which is why its Essence says Ganon was trying to make his wish come completely true. Ganon also mentions this before the battle with Link.
Regarding Agahnim, I think the game implies that Agahnim was one of Ganon's underlings, and allowed Ganon's soul to possess him to augment his powers. That's why Ganon rises out of Agahnim's body when Link kills him. Ganon was a spirit in Link to the Past, which makes sense following Adventure of Link where he was dead and his minions were trying to resurrect him using Link's blood. This is why the Essence of the Triforce confirms to Link that he completely destroyed Ganon. Meaning, even Ganon's soul no longer exists since it was destroyed directly.
Ganon never broke through the Wise Men's seal. He was dead since Legend of Zelda, and merely contacted Agahnim as a spirit. Speaking with the dead is pretty common in the Zelda series. If you're asking about Ganon breaking out of the seal after the Wise Men cast it, the short answer is that Ganon wasn't sealed in the Dark World by the Wise Men. The long answer involves going through the various iterations of the Zelda timeline, which no one wants to read about.
Uh... I think the Zora just has multiple pairs of flippers for sale.
I think the implication of the Master Sword sleeping forever was that Ganon had been destroyed and the Sacred Realm turned into a paradise. And the seal was back in place, with the warps closed and those trapped in the Sacred Realm sent back to Hyrule. So there would never be any need to use the Master Sword again. Link to the Past is basically the end of the series, aside from side quests such as Link's Awakening.

    • @AO968
      @AO968 2 ปีที่แล้ว

You're making a lot of crucial mistakes here.
First off, Ganondorf is 100% *alive* in this game. That makes sense, as he killed Link in Ocarina of Time, took all three Triforce pieces and wished to rule the world, transforming the Golden Land into the Dark World (and Ganondorf into Ganon).
Some time later, when Hyrule had fallen into decay, the seven Sages sealed Ganon away in the Sacred Realm, after which it looked like peace and stability returned. However, people started learning about the Triforce and the entrance to the Golden land and started looking for it. None would return (probably due to the power of the Golden Land preventing them from using their weapons).
Then, evil power started flowing from the seal, a sign that it was weakening, and Ganon started influencing a priest called Agahnim to help him break the seal. He sets out to find the seven maidens, descendants of the seven Sages, and brings them one by one to Ganon, who then locks them up in the various palaces. This breaks the seal of the Sages, and Link has to stop him, before the seal opens wide enough for Ganon to pass through and attack Hyrule proper.
Link kills Ganon's body, but his spirit remains (because of Demise's curse), and eventually returns in the Oracle games, A Link Between Worlds, the Legend of Zelda, and Breath of the Wild (though he will have lost all his humanity by that time).

    • @BelieveIt1051
      @BelieveIt1051 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@AO968 You're going off the horribly wrong Nintendo "timeline". Link never dies in any of the games, and if he did, there's nothing anyone could have done to stop Ganon in that case. If Ganon got all the Triforce parts, he would basically be a deity, and Zelda would have been dead, meaning no Seven Sages sealing anything away. The Nintendo "timeline" doesn't work. Throw it in the trash.
If the Seven Sages sealed the Dark World, then how did people fall into it and go missing? The Link to the Past backstory states people were getting lost in the Dark World before the Seven Wise Men sealed it, not after.
Yeah, you're mixing up the order of events. The backstory claims the Wise Men sealed the realm after Ganondorf entered it, and that after sealing it, the evil power no longer flowed from the realm into Hyrule.
No, the prologue states that Hyrule was plagued by cataclysms. The King ordered people to investigate the Wise Men's seal, but they found nothing wrong with it. Then Agahnim showed up and used magic to quell the cataclysms, and he was honored as a hero. That's how he insinuated himself into the King's inner circle. Turns out, he was the one causing the cataclysms in the first place.
If Ganon was alive, why didn't he just cross over into Hyrule immediately?
First, the Demise storyline is dumb. Second, even if you want to recognize Skyward Sword as canon, I think that game actually ends with Link obliterating Demise and his curse completely. I guess it's open to interpretation. But no, Link definitely destroys Ganon completely in A Link to the Past. The Essence of the Triforce says so.
The Oracle games take place after Majora's Mask, and before Legend of Zelda. That explains why Komue and Kotake are alive. They were never killed in the original timeline. If you think the Oracles follow the end of Ocarina of Time in a timeline where Link died, then you must admit Komue and Kotake died as well.
So yeah, we saw Ganon rise out of Agahnim's body. He was a spirit. Link to the Past also follows Adventure of Link, during which Ganon was dead and his minions were trying to resurrect him by getting Link's blood. If you think Legend of Zelda came after, you'd have to explain how he managed to get the Triforce of Power again.
Hate to break this to you, but when the writers made Wind Waker, they threw the entire Zelda timeline and it's lore right out the window. And the storyline has been nonsense ever since. Now the series is just a cash cow.

1:32:00 One small thing you missed is that if you kill those ice enemies (the Freezors), a chest will spawn. While it just contains some bombs in the normal game, this is useful to know if you play this randomized, as I learned of this chest because it had something important for me.
EDIT: 1:43:50/1:44:50 Another smallish thing, in the room at 1:43:50, if you walk on the spikes you can lift the skull to reveal a switch that reveals a chest containing the last small key, so even if you waste a key, you can still get in the room.
Nicely edited and done video, btw :).

Surprised you didnt get the ice rod before the desert palace - I think Nintendo Power recommended it as the rod works on the worm boss, 3 hits each.
Also surprised you didnt get the Butter Sword and Silver Arrows before Turtle Rock - the Super Bomb appears once link collects the 5th and 6th crystals.

Actually, the Master Sword DOES "sleep again forever."
This is the Imprisoning War Timeline, and after this game, Hyrule enters a period of decline. The original Zelda game and Zelda II, both of which come after this one do NOT feature the Master Sword. So while the Master Sword may be important in other timelines, not so much here.
A caveat on this is A Link Between Worlds, which is the sequel to ALttP. I've seen the theory that the ending scene for this game takes place AFTER that game.

I already mastered this game many, many years ago, but this has been a charming stroll down Memory Lane! We appreciate these videos, TLoZ:ALttP is a classic. As usual, you expertly showed off as many details as possible, including a couple of little extra nuances that (as long as I've known this game) even I didn't know about. Triforce of the Gods/A Link to the Past is easily one of the most important games to the Zelda series, if not the most important. With its introduction of so many series staples such as the Hookshot and a generally more fleshed out narrative compared to its two predecessors. While not a series-wide or console-wide favorite of mine, I still find it rather enjoyable to play through every few years or so. This is actually the first Zelda game I ever played! Thanks for this comprehensive guide as always, I'm sure you've helped out quite a few people who might be new to this game, and made some new fans. See you next time!

  • @Strakester
    @Strakester 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

19:09 - Stand right next to the shopkeeper. Fire an arrow whenever a squid exactly lines up with the second to last curtain. You'll never miss.
33:50 - It seems the devs intended for you to use the hookshot on the torches to get through the room faster, if you happen to have that already.
38:33 - You talk about refilling your health while walking right past the fortune teller, who does exactly that!
48:28 - This chest will have the magical boomerang if you don't already have it.
58:40 - If you visit the switch room first and lower the blue blocks, you can get back to the switch faster after grabbing the key.
59:35 - You can just slash the switch through the wall
1:00:55 - Irrelevant in the vanilla game, but fun trivia: if you're playing a randomizer and you already have the hookshot here, you can hookshot right over to the other ledge without having to go upstairs again!
1:02:25 - Walk the loop first, then push the block, and you won't have to walk the whole loop twice.
1:22:14 - Penguins are weak to the hookshot.
1:23:38 - If you toss a bomb over the orange blocks so that it lands at the bottom-right corner of the cracked floor, it will hit the switch and blow open the floor at once.
1:25:58 - If you don't bother with the key until coming back, you won't have to walk over the spikes.
1:26:19 - Surprisingly a lot of people don't know that you can use the powder on one of those yellow things that turns you into a bunny (sometimes called bunny beams), and it will turn into a fairy!
1:29:25 - Beat Misery Mire first, and bypass the whole puzzle with Somaria.
1:31:04 - If you would have killed the ice monsters in the room to the left earlier, a chest would have appeared. You could have hookshotted to that chest as a huge shortcut, even avoided revisiting the "very obnoxious room". In fact, if you would have gotten the blue mail the first time, you could have used this shortcut regardless.
1:33:22 - Use Bombos to skip Kholdstare's first phase entirely.
1:48:51 - Are you... are you... going to Turtle Rock BEFORE getting the gold sword? Why???? The pink bomb appears as soon as you have crystals 5 and 6.
1:55:55 - It's much easier to light all the torches quickly, then hookshot onto one of the torches to fall into the pit and respawn at the door.
2:04:00 - Much easier to hold out your sword, which holds your shield at your side, to block the lasers.
2:04:20 - Bomb the wall at the bottom of the room to go outside. The point of going outside is that you'll respawn at this entrance if you die.
2:08:26 - To get the pink bomb to the pyramid, it's much faster to mirror, take it across the bridge north of link's house, and use the Hyrule Castle gate portal.
2:15:02 - The intended method is to use the Cane of Somaira to hit the switch remotely.
2:16:40 - The pots are there so you can bonk on them from the other side to jump across the pit and skip the whole invisible maze. But if you really must cross the maze, light the torch with the fire rod first.
2:27:46 - is this the first time you realized you can powder the bunny beams?
2:45:00 - Also important to note that fairy revivals will count against you, too.

Obviously as you showed in the video getting the Level 3 sword early helps a lot with 2 & 3. The actual requirement is having rescued the swordsmith and defeated the bosses of both the Ice Palace and Misery Mire. I've played through LttP so many times at this point that I like to save as many bosses as possible until after getting the silver arrows, because all boss monsters that aren't immune to arrows take massive damage from them.

I bought Zelda ALTTP when it first came out in 1992. The SNES was really MY system growing up and to this day. By far the very best in my opinion, and getting in on the ground floor with it (unlike the NES it took me about 4 years to get), I was completely engulfed in its whole era and works. It’s actually still the only system that I still have my original of, with its box and all paperwork, along with 5 of my favorite games, also in perfect condition with their boxes. But Zelda for SNES was the game that I knew EVERYthing about. Despite how deep a game it was and still is. That being said, my mind was totally blown that I discovered just two new things about it in your video. One, the “Good Bee”. I never ever even heard of that, or that it could be used to fight the moth boss or show you the area to dig for the flute. Second, while I always found the Cane of Bryna, I never found too much use for it. I was just a completionist and got it. But using it on the moth boss, or a few others to avoid damage while also getting a few extra hits in addition to your sword? Brilliant! I probably knew 99.999% of every trick, strategy, and item in this game, but it blows my mind that after 30 years and playing it completely through countless times, that there was still something I didn’t know. But in my defense, I never bought strategy guides, it was a pre-internet time when this came out, and I just liked discovering everything on my own.

This is such a cool game. But I wouldn't want to play it without someone walking me through it. It's just too time consuming otherwise. So, thanks for this video.. really helped alot!

Ok... gotta be honest, never had the idea of using the Golden (Good) Bee to figure out the location of the shovel... I mean, the flute, seems like I still have to learn new stuff on most games I have already played so far.

2:03:47 just a tiny addition to this part of the strategy to not getting a laser hitting you as you attempt to go back to the middle...
if you are charging for a circle sword swipe, you are holding your shield to the side, with the mirror shield equipped, you can still stop the beams from hitting you without having to play a game of Rhythm Heaven just to safely make it back in one piece

Okay, something I didn't know until this video. The Turtle Rock boss, I thought you had to only use magic against the fire/ice heads. I beat this game in the early '90s and I always hated that boss because I thought it took way too much magic to beat. Nice to know it isn't so bad.

I beat this whole game a few years ago and I was proud asf cause I almost gave up on it as a child cause I had no strategy guide for it back then

No hook shot in botw had me depressed. Also I don’t think it’s in either of the oracle games. Something similar tho in those.

I'm also disappointed you never used the hammer to smash the pots/skulls.

It took me two days, but I slowly made my way through the video.
Honestly, having something like this to watch in my free time has been wonderful. Thank you!

I've beaten this multiple times. Never did it the way you did though. I never knew the Cane of Byrna was so useful and I've never used the cape to it's full effect either.
