Dude, this is like...my favourite series on all of the youtubes. Seriously, its a master quest of nostalgia goodness rivalled by no other. Thank you so much for this awesomeness!
I really like how when your video starts, you jump right into the subject, and once we're already watching "then" you give us all the promotional plugs. Even if people can't articulate why, it's a good move because it respects our time, and our attention. Please don't change that going forward! ^_^
Thanks. Finding level 9 and level 8. South of the arrow (this was a decent clue) and move in the direction of the arrow. I tried blowing the whistle in the top left, I had the thought that something should be there but hadn't tried bombing. I love you're style of narration - you're so relaxed.
My brother and I called the Nintendo hot line in Redmond WA so much that my Mom made us do crazy extra chores for punishment when she found out. Finding the raft was one of those calls. So sneaky. We made our own maps on grid paper so we wouldn't forget what we checked and didn't check in every room. Did the same for Metroid and lots of games actually!
Whoa..coincidence! I'm in the middle of playing through the 2nd quest on my switch right now. I remember only being able to find dungeons 1-3 back in the day but the internet wasn't a thing soooo 30 years later I'm finally gonna beat it!. Great guide!
I was definitely one of those kids who didn't know about the Second Quest. I remember working together with my friend to complete the game on her dad's NES, we even bought one of those posterboards you get for school projects and used it to map out Hyrule. So it's been fun to see what I missed out on! Thanks for all your hard work.
Did anyone else fight the blue Darknuts from the doorways? We use to call it "chicken shit" lol. You stand in the doorway just enough to swing your sword and just wait for them to get close.
When visiting the graveyard to get the heart container I always drop in Level 6 and grab the ladder. It's only 4-5 screens from the entrance and is fairly easy to get.
This is my favorite game franchise. Ever since the first Zelda. It’s truly the only reason I kept buying the new systems as they released, but I never knew about this “second quest” I feel cheated. Awesome. Thx for the video brother
LoZ is like being happy you beat your little brother in a wrestling match and then the second quest is your dad showing up and drunkingly asks “you think you’re better than me?! Let’s wrassle!”…
Excellent work. Your videos are some of the best walk thru's and I love when you give a little history in the beginning. Stumbled on your channel today and is definitely one of my top 5 TH-cam channels. Thanks, keep it up.
After all these years, I had no idea whatsoever that you could use the water of life to cure yourself from the red bubble attacks until I watched this! I actually just picked up the game just to get a screenshot of the old man who says “Ones who does not have triforce can’t go in”, and then just kept playing, 1st and 2nd. Then after that, I watched this, since I’d never really seen anything like it, and based on your other videos I knew it’d be an excellent guide-and it was!
I first beat this game when I was 7 years old, now 37 years later I've finally beaten the second quest. It was like getting to play the legend of Zelda for the first time again and it's largely thanks to You Can Beat Video Games! I always thought the second quest was just the first quest with everything moved around, I had no idea until I started watching this video, you've basically doubled how much I love my favorite game. Thank you so much!
I am proud to say that against all odds and after being deserted from my group of zelda playing friends who gave up after failing to get thru this quest, I brute forced this quest on my own with no help, got every heart container, every item, 16 bombs, full game completion. The sword freezing was an absolute SCENE! Loved this quest.
In all my years of gaming, I have never once attempted the Second Quest of Zelda.... Until now! You are doing every old skool gamer the biggest favor by doing these walkthroughs that are legitimate walkthroughs! I, personally, can't thank you enough! BTW, I've always called Manhandla the Manhandler! Each mouth can grab you by the scruff and give you a stern talking-to! LMAO
My first ever major gaming accomplishment: Beating The Legend of Zelda 2nd Quest...without a ring. Princess Zelda in a green dress blew my mind (so I went and did the same in a new 1st quest save file).
I gotta say back in late 01 when I was nostalgic for Zelda 1. I played the second quest like crazy. I made it through the first 5 dungeons and I did find the raft. But I never figured out you had to play the '' the whistle'' in the cemetery to get to level 6. I did actually find level 7 by accident. Never went through it though. And I never found level 8 either. And honestly, I would have never found level 9 either.
Hands up if you still have your original graph paper map of both quests in this game. I remember painfully mapping this out by memory until my parents bought me the "Win At Video Games" book that listed the points of interest on the map. You know. Before the days of the internet, we had to either take a notebook into the book store or hope the local library has a copy of it, which was rare.
The second quest is such a cool mixup. I wish more Zelda games did this. I get that memory constraints make that pretty impossible these days. Hot too for second quest: you can sneak into Level-6 to get the ladder early. It’ll give you that heart container on the east coast, and get you the magic sword before level 5. The ladder and the sword make level 5 WAY easier.
Man, this was way more difficult than the first quest. Great walkthrough yet again. As a 40 year old father of one I have little time so these videos help a lot!
Yes it was quite a bit more difficult than the first quest. I have no idea how I was able to play through this game 35 years ago with no walkthrough videos. Playing now with YT video guides make it alot less difficult and less frustrating.
Technically Zelda II does have a 2nd quest but it falls far below the bar set by its predecessor. You still get the raised sword Icon by your name file and everything. You start off with all the spells you learned and the levels you had when you beat the game. Otherwise, is basically the same game again. Maybe it's more like a New Game+ than a second quest now that I think about it.
OK. Thats it. I have now watched all of the UCBVG videos! I dont normally watch videos of game walk throughs. I just stumbled onto this channel and gave it a go. I love the narration and back story on the game. I've tried to watch other walk throughs, but they normally dont have any narration. Keep up the awesome work and I look forward to new videos every week!
@U Can Beat Video Games: another great walkthrough! With the bait trick though you can just pick continue and the goriya will still be gone. This way you start at the dungeon entrance. No need to save, reload and walk all the way back. Also the skeletons are called STALFOS..... not.... whatever you were saying.
It’s almost painful to watch this player not take advantage of a few tricks to make this easier. Upgrade swords as soon as possible. He could have gone into lvl 6, got the stepladder, left the dungeon, got 12 hearts and the magic sword before finishing lvl 5 AND not missed those keys.
In order to save texture space, Dark Nuts use most of the same sprite as Link from below his head. The JP version made use of the controller mic to destroy all Pols Vice.
So many new things Ito try next time I play. There is one thing I do to make the midgame easier. When you are in the graveyard grinding rupees before Level 4, grab the stepladder from level 6. It is pretty easy to get to from the entrance though it does cost a key. It makes navigating much easier(especially level 4) and you get a heart container on the pier with that and the HC that can be gotten with the raft, the best sword is available after level 4.
I really appreciate this channel. They are games I have in my closet for a rainy workless day. But until then I enjoy listening to you while I do my work.
Watching these playthroughs reminds me of visiting family in the summer. Rainy days were never unwelcome because all the kids would get in the basement and play zelda and mega man 3. Thanks so much for the nostalgia 😁
This was wonderful to watch, and the voice of the narrator was so calming and knowledgeable. Thanks for showing me the end of Zelda 1 second run. I remeber first beating Zelda when I was very young, and in grade school hearing about a second adventure in LoZ. Course when I got home I entered Zelda as the name and played and I remember being super lost after the first dungeon.
OMG, I requested this when I watched your first LoZ video! I'm so hyped. I can't wait to you see you destroy dungeon 4. That would gave me the most trouble.
Another awesome playthrough. Fun to watch and yet still educational enough to be used as a guide to beat the game on your own. That is a tough combination to pull off. Well done Sir. I look forward to your video every week. Thank you.
Yay!! I recently posted a comment on the first video requesting this, and you actually did it! I mean, you were probably already working on this by then but it is nice to have my prayers answered. I'll be playing along, only consulting the video if I get stuck or want to see the locations of some overworld secrets to cut down on wasted bombs and bush burning
I remember the first time my sister tried to play the second quest. SHe evidently missed the message about how another quest would start from here, so a while later she actually started playing it and thought the Nintendo was messed up because things weren't where she remembered them, so she eliminated the character. LOL.
Fun fact: recorders and (tin) whistles are both types of fipple flute. The ocarina from later games is also a type of flute, but is a vessel flute instead of a fipple flute. Just some trivia as thanks for the trivia and strategies you’ve been giving us.
Ganon lives in the upper left corner after he's been defeated once in LOZ. GanonDORF lives in the upper left corner after he's been defeated once in OOT/WW. Coincidence? I don't think so anymore!
For some more advanced second quest strats. The stepladder is easy enough to get from level 6 you could get it after level 2/3 once you have the recorder. Then just go straight to level 8 which is surprisingly easy for the second quest and unlike the other late dungeons doesn't require the bow. Just the bombs and recorder. so you can get the magic key and rod before doing levels 4-7 to help with the red bubbles.
Dude this was a ton of fun to watch I have only done the first round but after watching this I think I'm gonna give round 2 another go ...done very well you kept my attention the whole 2 hrs :))
I remember seeing your other videos on the First Quest of The Legend of Zelda and Zelda 2, but I didn't expect you to cover the Second Quest. What a pleasant surprise!
I've never been good at games, but I played Zelda 1 and 2 for years and years...because it took me that long to beat them. This brings back lots of memories and was very well done, subscribed.
2nd quest... My bane. Especially that horrendous Level 8. Excellent video once again! This video and all of your others should help make so many old (and difficult) games accessible to more people
@@UCanBeatVideoGames Literally the fact that you can get tens of thousands of people to watch a detailed walkthrough of 2nd quest in just a couple days is amazing. That right there shows how good of a job you do on these videos and how well you break everything down for people.
its unbelievable! im playing this game since '89. beaten it in many ways, even swordless quest 2 before there was youtube. always believe i'm knowing it all, and still learning new stuff. this time: i didnt knew that triforce reenables the disabled sword. thanks!
This game did so many things right and inspired so many other action adventure rpg games that tried to mimic even a fraction of its grandeur (sorry I couldn't resist an Invincible reference). It is the one of many reasons I have been a Zelda fan my entire life. The level of polish was unsurpassed and this was only the first/second adventure we shared with Link throughout the years. This was a wonderful look back at my childhood and I just recently found my own copy of this legendary video game in my garage. Thank you YCBVG for taking us back to those halcyon days. Game on friend!

I really like how when your video starts, you jump right into the subject, and once we're already watching "then" you give us all the promotional plugs. Even if people can't articulate why, it's a good move because it respects our time, and our attention. Please don't change that going forward! ^_^
And I almost asked when you were going to do the second quest. Never understood the second quest. Now I do. Thanks!!!
1:10:06 I think sequence breaking by getting the Magic Key early makes the second quest quite a bit easier.
Did the same for Metroid and lots of games actually!
my game came with a map, but the 2nd time we made maps also
@@gregoryeverson741 yeah, for the 2nd quest is when we made maps.
I was SUPER excited to see the notification for this! This is my favorite game of all time ☺️
I wonder how many kids back in the day put ZELDA as their name and started on the second quest without knowing
Ohhh good point. Never thought I’d that! I wonder now too!
Been there
Me lol
Me. I was 7. Ooopsie. I knew it was too hard...
Right here...total surprise! Never found lvl 3 or the blue ring
I like how your puppy dog always brings you the game to play at the start of the videos!
You stand in the doorway just enough to swing your sword and just wait for them to get close.
we used the ladder over water trick
Works for Darknuts alone, but add Blue Wizzrobes into the mix & that strategy goes right out the window, since Blue Wizzrobes can phase into doorways.
Thank you!!!!! Excellent work, sir! I've never been able to beat the second quest before this. You are the true hero of Hyrule!!
Did he touch you?
Excellent work. Your videos are some of the best walk thru's and I love when you give a little history in the beginning. Stumbled on your channel today and is definitely one of my top 5 TH-cam channels. Thanks, keep it up.
You do a great job on these videos. Very much appreciated.
My grandfather always played Zelda and was really good at it. I remember watching him play it and beat Ganon !
Impressive
In all my years of gaming, I have never once attempted the Second Quest of Zelda.... Until now! You are doing every old skool gamer the biggest favor by doing these walkthroughs that are legitimate walkthroughs! I, personally, can't thank you enough!
BTW, I've always called Manhandla the Manhandler! Each mouth can grab you by the scruff and give you a stern talking-to! LMAO
My first ever major gaming accomplishment: Beating The Legend of Zelda 2nd Quest...without a ring. Princess Zelda in a green dress blew my mind (so I went and did the same in a new 1st quest save file).
my dad loved doing minimal items playing Zelda, ya my 40yr old dad was playing games in the 8s
A real green dress? That's cruel
My grandma was born in 1939 and she played this game all the way through.
The ladder and the sword make level 5 WAY easier.
that's what I always do when I play this game
Man, this was way more difficult than the first quest. Great walkthrough yet again. As a 40 year old father of one I have little time so these videos help a lot!
Yes it was quite a bit more difficult than the first quest. I have no idea how I was able to play through this game 35 years ago with no walkthrough videos. Playing now with YT video guides make it alot less difficult and less frustrating.
I was so bummed when Zelda II didn’t have a second Quest.
It’s dangerous to watch alone. Take a dog.
I can't figure out how to get to the save menu on Switch so I can't even do the bait trick lol!😅
🤫 he's a TH-camr and has followers therefore he's all knowing.
In order to save texture space, Dark Nuts use most of the same sprite as Link from below his head.
The JP version made use of the controller mic to destroy all Pols Vice.
There are 550 secret rupees in quest 1, not 570.
I know it's been said before but your channel is fantastic. It's entertaining, clear and accurate. Well done.
Ahhh. Nothing like the dulcet tones of UCBVG on a Saturday morning. Keep up the great content, man! Love it all.
I beat Second Quest a couple years ago, and sweetie I'd never do it again. This has inspired me to go through that madness again!
Thank you.
Yesss the golden cartridge!
I used to blow into it all the time and keep it playing for a decade
Im happy ur doing the second quest ur the best man !
A friend of mine turned me in to this channel. Im glad he did. Talk about a blast from the past.
You deserve many more views on these than you get, top notch quality videos. Keep up the great work!
I didn't even remember there was a second quest lol. Love this channel. Strategic game play and entertaining as always.
What a pleasant surprise!
this is how i beat 2nd quest, i ran to every place in the 1st quest, made a map with paper and took notes, did this when i was 8
Best. Channel. Ever. I don't even know how I found it, but it is now a staple of my week.
I never played this game but I enjoyed this journey with you so much. On the edge of my seat like a kid again!
I spent a great deal of my life getting to this view, too. Now that I'm 73, I have no regrets doing it.
theres something about your voice and the presentation that makes these so calming and enjoyable to listen to
1:50 literally spend a week trying to figure that out. No internet to help... I asked people and no one had played second quest. It was rough.
a new video love the doggo such a good boi. keep up the good work !
This is the only good guide for the 2nd quest out there. Thanks for doing this. Very well done.
Amazing work. Narration is enjoyable and descriptive. Such a nice content you created! Thanks a lot.
I've never been good at games, but I played Zelda 1 and 2 for years and years...because it took me that long to beat them. This brings back lots of memories and was very well done, subscribed.
2nd quest... My bane. Especially that horrendous Level 8. Excellent video once again! This video and all of your others should help make so many old (and difficult) games accessible to more people
Thanks man!!
This is an amazing guide. Thank you so much. All the work with the notes and background pictures.
Great job.
It took a couple days but wow I can’t believe I watched this whole thing!!! Great video!! I can’t believe I played this as a kid without the help of the internet!!!
Your channel is the best. This is my favorite video because there’s no way I would ever sit down now and figure this out. But I’ve always wanted to know where everything was in the second quest- I could never get past level 2!
Better than Saturday Morning Cartoons
Better than the after-school cartoons
This channel gives me something to look forward to on a Saturday Morning. My family all ends up sitting and watching in awe. Keep it up! I look forward to the Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior and Wizardry series of videos.
