I just tested this. If you leave it plugged in it’s not going to sleep mode so you can have it as clock. Just get a U-shaped usb cable and some stand.
@@gnurken Only thing I'd worry about is the battery with it being left on charge all the time. Although the battery is easy enough to replace, uses the same one Joy Cons use after all.
@@nathansstuff1547 I'd presume the system is smart enough to draw directly from the wall power instead of trickling the battery every so often, much like the 3DS. There's the icon whenever it's plugged in, so the system at least knows when it's charging.

Yeah, you might forget you tossed this thing to the ground and then end up slipping on it and falling into your PS5.
GameFreak needs to do something like this with Pokemon, money would jump out of my wallet itself.
i can see something like that, but the only thing that comes to mind, other than as a gameboy with pokemon yellow, would be the pokewalker. but then again i don't know how many pokemon-themed retro consoles there are that could make sense to release.

A gameboy advance micro dedicated specifically for Pokémon would be kinda cool. The problem would be that they would sell all the versions separately, you’d have to buy an entire GBA every time, scalpers, always scalpers. You’ll find Pokémon Ruby in stores but Sapphire will be sold out everywhere and cost twice as much online. Now imagine doing that for every GBA generation. That is such a Nintendo move.
Edit: and they’d cost $49.99 each.

One thing they cheaped out on is the ”stand” clip they used to have on the backside... would have been nice together with the clock...

3D print a stand.
I really believe he's downplaying the screen. It's actually fantastic, bright and colorful. Maybe because I was expecting DS levels of pixelation but I was really impressed with the quality of the screen.
Yeah the TH-cam videos do it now justice. I was amazed how good the screen is in person.
Honestly the device itself on it's own is impressive especially when you consider that they were able to cram a rechargeable battery, a color screen that I believe is an LCD but I can't confirm that, and all that in the small shell of an original game and watch shell

Fun Fact: Game & Watch: Donkey Kong was the first device to ever have a D-Pad on it!! (released in 1982, a year or two before the Famicon/NES) *Plus, it had a clamshell dual screen design!! (which inspired the DS)

They're both great, the GGM is pretty playable and I've played through Sonic Tails and Gun Star Heroes without problems.

I got one on Friday and I gotta say it's pretty nifty to have a Game & Watch in the year 2020.
It's more of a collectors item but still it's a fun little device and pretty impressive at the same time

Well yes, All-Stars was for the SNES but they meant that it would be cool to have the NES versions of those four games on one Game & Watch.

As interesting as this looks, I've played Super Mario Bros. enough times that I couldn't possibly justify picking this up.

They’ll prob release one every ‘anniversary’, it’ll be Zelda next year! Needless to say I bought it but just wish it had a flip stand for the clock.
And for $50? $20-$30 makes more sense.
Considering this is for anniversary I don't think they expect everyone to buy it, just nostalgic driven people and collectors.
You can play it on the switch if you have nintendo switch online anyway. Its just a novelty and nothing else
Fun fact: The games aren’t actually emulated. It actually saves your progress, letting you access world select by pressing B after you reset, and you can hold A when starting to get infinite lives.
I don't think emulation means what you think it means.

Yeah I paid £50 for it in the UK, if it has Mario bros 2 (Outside Japan version) and Mario bros 3 maybe the £50 (I think about $55) price would have been a bit more reasonable

I'm not a collector per say but I still chose to pick this up because I was always interested in Game and Watch but never had a chance to play one, it is a simple fun device!
We had about 10 of these at the GameStop I work at, and they all sold within a few days. I don’t understand how people could spend $50 on a device that plays 3 games plus a watch. I considered purchasing it at first because I’m a Nintendo fan, but then I realized what a waste of money it truly is. Any modern smart phone with an emulator can do the same thing plus more. I guess this device is only meant for hardcore Nintendo consumers. Pretty cool that Nintendo released this, but in my opinion $50 is too much money for what the device can do. $30 would be more appropriate in my opinion.

I just played it 5 minutes ago. I love it, it's awesome for playing during break. Small, great screen. Badass little game

I'm not even really a Nintendo fan, but for some reason I decided to get it, and I'm glad I did! It's just a solid little machine, you can tell as soon as you've got in your hand. I think that you miss the point about the clock -- you're looking at it as like, a feature, but it's really also more of a way of displaying it, just like you could leave the plastic cover on the box or not. I like watching Mario run around just about as much as I like playing it.
Hopefully They do a Zelda game & watch next year
It'd make sense, considering its anniversary is soon, plus they could remake the ds style zelda game and watch from a while ago
When I first saw one on shelves, I had no idea what this was, then I searched it up and figured it out. I was gunna pass on this but then I started to think of resale value. So I bought two, one to rock and one to stock. On Reddit, I saw how people were saying they had a hard time finding these, who knows, maybe Nintendo made enough for right now, so if you want one, you can get it. I’m just blown away how much these can go up, maybe in 10 years years, it’ll be worth a little more.
Game & watch games were not just popular they actually saved Nintendo from bankruptcy back then. Big thanks to Gunpei Yokoi for them!
Gunpei Yokoi is one of my favorite figures in gaming history. Such an interesting (and instrumental) background and role he played in Nintendo's history.
If I ever find one of these for around $20, I'll definitely pick it up. $50 for 2 NES gamea with a less-than-optimal gameplay experience is just a non-starter for me. Plus, I had the blue Mario Game & Watch when I was a kid, so this one doesn't scratch my nostalgic itch quite right, anyway.

Nelsonic came out a Zelda game watch that you could wear and that would be an awesome remake of that however I don't see the point of those to be honest

It reminds me of always wanting to buy a GBA micro some day though. They have become quite expensive these days though as one of the rarer Nintendo handhelds.
OH wow, first thing I noticed different was yours came in see-through plastic, mine came in the white wrap like the PS5.

Did you know this system has 7 different hidden Easter eggs on it. I'll give you one. Turn the unit on. While it's on the clock. Hold the A button down for 5 seconds. You can play the Mario drawing song on it. You can change the subtitles to different languages, however it will only sing the song in English while drawing Mario's face. This is super cool.
Everything from the build quality to the box itself just gives me flashbacks to when I’d get those little game and watches as a kid. Spot on Nintendo!! You know how to serenade money out my wallet.
Gotta admit, that's a lot nicer than I thought it would be. Screen looks nice, the animations for the clock are adorable, plus 2 1/2 fully functional games. Honestly, if I had an office with a desk, I would want to get one and fashion a stand for it to use as a small desk clock.
I'm late to the punch, but I just 'pre-ordered' one. Hope there are incoming fresh stock.

Quite pricey and limited on the games, but I love it. It's so close to the original Game and Watches from the 80's in feel, and brings a lot of nostalgia to me. I wish the clock had an alarm feature though. Sometimes it's nice to have something that only plays a couple of games, rather than something loaded up with every rom under the sun too.
Put super Mario Bros. 1, 2 and 3 on one of these things for about $35.00 and I’m totally there. Until then I’ll have to pass.
I really want to make it a desk clock but I don't like the cord sticking out of the side.
Could at least do a right-angle USB-C cable, possibly braided with color for a lower-profile look. But yeah, some kind of cordless charging dock would have been nice.

The only thing I'm comfortable with saying about this is that I'm a tiny bit disappointed it doesn't last weeks on a single charge like original game and watch's, I know why this is obviously, it has to have a full colored screen as opposed to an LCD one, however it just does not at all feel like a game and watch without being able to let it sit on your desk for a few days as a clock then picking it up for some quick ball

Mine came with a plasic bag too, i guess its what they had at the factory

I like it. I bought one at GameStop just to check it out. $50 seems like a lot for 3 games that are not very exclusive at all but it’s neat. I like to play it when I’m idle someplace. Just pause and pick right up where you left off.
Be nice if it can be modded later on to play say like the entire NES library.
3ds is super easy to jailbreak and install emulators. I did it in 30 minutes. You just need a computer with a microsd card slot, and patience to follow instructions.
Just because it’s easy to hack other handhelds doesn’t make me want to do it any less on this. Sure I can play any game on a psvita/3ds/whatever else. But then I have to carry one of those around. This weighs like an ounce, is very thin, and is as pocketable as a GBmicro if not moreso all while looking clean as fuck.

Not really... Not when you only get one freaking game on the thing. For 50 bucks? That's nearly as bad as those Game Gear Mini's to be honest. The thing should at least come with Mario 1 thru 3 at bare minimum. I mean for 50 bucks? C'mon Nintendo.
The game gear micro is actually pretty comparable to this. Both systems have about the same amount of content for the exact same price. The difference is that the game gear micro had potential to be better than it was.

Funny thing, when I got this at Walmart on Monday, I don't think anyone else bought any since they had plenty in stock. But since the Walmart I was shopping was in the deep country here in Wayne County, Mississippi, I guess that's understandable.

mine came in the plastic like his, but mine showed one of the nice fullscreen Mario pictures when I first turned it on and the clock was at 12 o’clock not 1215 like his.. kinda weird that it’s skipped over the splash screen unless he turned it on secretly like 15 mins before turning it on on camera :o

once the thing gets fully hacked to where we can load ROMs its value is gonna skyrocket!
You'll need special hardware for that, the USB-C port is not connected to the CPU at all, only to the charging circuit. But if you've got a chip flasher lying around it shouldn't be too hard in a few weeks.

For a battery powered device, its better for the chip to be a microcontroller instead of an embedded computer. And that STM chip is one of the most powerful microcontrollers on the market

The amount of ways that Nintendo has found to sell people the original Super Mario Bros is absolutely mind boggling. They're just laughing all the way to the bank as people keep buying the same games over and over and over.
