    Twice a week, typically Monday and Friday. 30min sessions broken up like this:
    5-10 warmup - easy jogg
    SIT (Sprint Interval Training) with 1kg weightbelts on the ankles, sprinting uphill (approximately 12-15% incline)
    1.-3. rep:
    100% sprint for 6s (approximately 40-45m)
    54s rest Period (walk down to start position)
    4. rep:
    100% sprint for 12-15s uphill
    105s rest Period
    4 reps = 1 set
    6 Sets total = ~30min
    KILLER workout, incredible speed gains and fat burning.

Much too taxing on the body to run a bunch of max sprints and does much more damage. From what I have researched, the elite drive the first 4-6 steps with the foot turned 45d outward, to drive off the strongest part of the balls of the foot. I asked myself why, so tested it. I believe it is to do with generating more torque. I may be wrong, but I could def feel more of a drive, than a forward facing strike. The hip flexors seem to be activated better imo. Don't try it unless your coach is happy that it may not cause an injury.

    I was told by several world class sprinters that sprinting once at max speed per week was too much. They all told me that you must peak at the right time of the year which are the finals. I tend to agree with this bc it keeps you healthier to reach the end of the year running your fastest. But this doesn't mean don't train intensely & go too slow. You just can't burn yourself out. And I learned this from people who trained with UCLA & HSI coach John Smith. Who knows maybe they were lying to me bc they didn't want competition‽

    • @stevie586
      @stevie586 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your max this week versus your max a few weeks from now are gonna be different, especially if properly training with weights, etc., and coming off your loading cycle. Running maybe 85-90% early on seems ok sometimes, but, 100% is a killer and good way to NOT run faster later. You received good advice.

    • @biggalaxy9102

      @@stevie586 Yeah I think so. These guy's were extremely fast & were world class sprinters & this is the way they trained. I wish I listened to them more back then & had a coach. I never had a coach when I was training. I went from a 12.99 (I'll never forget my first track meet running this slow bc of a car accident I had) to a 10.99 in 9 month's.

    • @stevie586
      @stevie586 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@biggalaxy9102 congrats on this, and if you’re a guy, I totally se 12.99 to 10.9 happening in a year of training, because, we guys have more potential & build strength faster. Myself and my family have always been faster than everyone, and I think I ran 13 seconds flat the time trial the very first time I ran a full 100M in my life. Not even a year and half later, I hit my PB of 10.22 for the first time. I had much faster than 13 flat in my legs, but, never actually did it, and once I did it tons, my real abilities began to emerge on its own without force. I could’ve run much faster, because I didn’t have the best coaching at that time either, and they just treated me “special” because I was naturally fast, instead of properly training me to reach my potential (I’m still pissed about this today). I didn’t become really fast until I told myself to run at 80% in practice, and then is when I realized I was actually running much faster without trying at all. The more I didn’t try, the faster I went. When training, we need to also understand how the muscles and nervous system work…running too fast too much is a matter of physics, and I think this is how Yohan Blake became so slow after all those lightning fast times. He simply trained way too hard and didn’t use his common sense…now, Yohan Blake went from impossible to beat to a non-factor. We have to learn from these folks.

    • @ayeauewashunt9058
      @ayeauewashunt9058 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevie586why is it that running at 80% can make you faster? Is it because of neuromuscular adaptations and improved coordination? Im one of those guys who arent coached as well and when I first saw your comment I was confused because I always run 100% when I train. Recently I started doing HIT sprinting, where I sprint for an interval of time and use my walk back for rest. I dont know if it was the fat loss or me sprinting below max effort that caused me to get faster. Id like to hear your thoughts on this

    • @stevie586
      @stevie586 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ayeauewashunt9058 Hello. It’s not that running at 80% all the time will make someone faster; it’s that when training and especially early season, one should not run all out, because it hinders progress and can put not just a ceiling on your season, but, on your future, as well. The more someone runs their absolute fastest, the more tired their legs are until full recovery, and one cannot run the same fast times every single time if they run all out. Also, running slightly slower helps with relaxation…before one properly learns to run top speed, that person should take advantage of running a little slower, focusing on the technique (which is easier to master when running slower), etc. HIT training is good for endurance, but, if you’re doing those, you definitely need to give yourself more rest and save some energy. The overall goal is to gradually build a faster top speed for mid to late season…being patient in the process and knowing when to not over-exert yourself. Try running maybe 80 or 90% except for once or twice weekly, and you’ll see the difference.

      @stevie586 I ran track for many year's & although I wasn't a world class athlete, I did train with a few world class athletes & was taught by a few Olympians how to train. And contrary to what is said in this video, I was taught running top speed during the week is counter productive by a 10.14 guy. He trained with UCLA coach at the time John Smith. He told me, sprinting fast once a week was too much. If you listen to Michael Johnson, he never ran faster than 23 seconds in his 200s during practice. They all said to only go about 40 meters tops all out or 90%. I honestly don't know bc I never had a coach when I ran. I just trained with the world class guy's & did their workouts. While they were going 70% I was going 100% just to keep up & I felt burnt out all the time. They all told me what I do today will pay off 4 years from now & that's when the speed would eventually come out & I'll be world class eventually. My problem was, I eventually became inconsistent bc I had to make a living & track had to take a back seat. But back to the subject, all these world class sprinters told me to build up, slowly but surely throughout the years like a weight lifter would with his bench press. You see guy's having their light, medium & heavy day's. But never truly go full max day's until they peak for competition. Also we have to remember there are different times of the season for training where we put more weight training or more distance or conditioning & speed. But is speed all out when it's speed season? Honestly I'm not totally sure what's best. But based on experience, speed all the time is brutal on my body when I did it all season long. Sprinting is a neurological drain which means it drains the brain which is connected to the nervous system. Anyway, I tend to agree with you.

      My opinion as a mid D and distance guy, you’ll want two max days like your 100,200 guys (1 with acceleration 1 with max velocity focus) but adjust volume depending on if there’s a second part of the session such as speed or special endurance. One day you’ll want a speed endurance day (60-150m repeats). And one day you’ll throw in 1 special endurance session (probably 150-300m repeats is all you need for speed guys). And maybe some easier tempo runs (no more than 75% or so, done like 10-20x100m with 100m jog) to maintain some fitness on another day or an easy day. Weights will depend on training history, 2x per week bodyweight could be fine for your first year, some more advanced athletes might be in the gym 3-5days. Out of season null out the highly anaerobic special endurance and speed endurance and do more tempo work and fitness based stuff on top of building strength physically to prep for the season. Or move up to the 800 and get those miles in!!

      @frednash504 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel at least 3- 4 days a week depending on where you at in your season for weight training. Most meets are on Friday-Sunday. The speed part is all about what you did during your preseason with the condition components and I know not all athletes have made their effort for that part. So cross-country through the indoor season will be the condition components. So mixing in speed work 1-2 days a week should be good in my opinion.

    Good rule of thumb. But context is king. Age, body type, sport, and lifestyle all play a part in the dosing of very high stress activity. The theory of residual training effect of sprinting is 5 +/- 3 days. But a true PR can take the nervous system over 14 days to recover from. This has been tested and confirmed through the use of DC potential and HRV. So the answer is, it depends. “Embrace the grey”!

    Honestly isn't a matter about how many times in a week (at least not only) rather is about which is the best or better, the most useful exercise to train the power and so to get acceleration.All exercise I see as without an overload ( such as skips j, jump downward and other similar dance motions) and with overload ( squat half squat leg press Powerlift and other similar limited exercise as also strange and ridicolous objects linked to the body) are only an approssimative attempt to emulate the running motion and increase the stiffness. Now, apart the poor emulation, the increment of stiffness may be direct consequence only by an increment of weight force and this can only be obtained thru exercises with progressive overload (which means a progressive force applied by specific muscle).

The reason why i ask one time a week because I'm 60 years old I want to make sure I recover but at the same time I don't want to waste my time if one time a week is not enough thank you anybody that responds for their time you have my gratitude

    And want to slowly drop the distance down to 100metres sprints while at the same time increasing our intensity
    What’s the best way to do that ?
    I just thought amongst distance at slower speed works be a good place to start to get used to running and not get injured
    We did try sprinting straight away previously but I think one time I hurt my hip flexor or something . It feels like like we need a little bit of conditioning over 3 -6 months to get ready for more intense sprints
    We are both tall and heavy too, over 6 feet and 240-260 pounds . I’m 44, son is 16

      You mean at school level? For folks who don’t really properly train in an advanced level, you’ll likely see consistent times and improvement over time. When lifting, yes, you’re gonna eventually get slower…it’s called being “loaded”, but, what happens, is, as you trust the process, you begin to become MUCH faster very soon.

    During my track season we ran 2 full speed workouts a week towards the middle to end of the season and tbh I didn’t like it as once we stopped doing difficult interval training and started doing the speed workouts where I couldn’t really push myself my times during meets started to plateau and actually get worse. I don’t know if this is actually because we stopped training endurance intervals or what but better endurance would have helped me a lot more during my races, for reference I was running 56.40 and 24.69 for the 4 and 2 and then I couldn’t pr for that last 4 meets of the season and I’m only 16 so I feel like I should be improving not getting worse.

    • @kitjones6896
      @kitjones6896 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think so. Try very short sprints 20 - 40 yard dashes only and explode as hard as you can. 30 second sprints is way too long and the body will focus on cardio over power. Your body will easily adapt at shorter intensity and learn on its own to recruit more muscle fibers for strength. Just make sure to warm up and do a few sprints at 60% effort and work your way up to a 100% when starting your workout. Just do 3 max effort sprints in 1 workout and after a few weeks add 1 more or increase the distance a little.
      Body builders for example will do 8 -12 reps to get bigger muscles while power lifters will do only 5 for dense muscles. This heavy training in short bursts teaches your nervous system to maximally recruit each muscle fiber, meaning you can produce more force with the same muscle fibers over time.. When I did very long sprints when starting out I hurt myself cause my body wasn't very strong. Short bursts are safer and the body will adapt quicker, then later on you can do longer sprints safely cause you will be conditioned for it. If you keep running long sprints you might not gain much power cause you will never have enough time to tell the nervous system to focus on power. It doesn't matter how fast or slow you are individually just as long it is your max that your body is capable of and you will improve. As long as it is all your effort that your individual body is capable of... that matters cause you are still sprinting your max that your body allows which makes you healthy regardless of speed in comparison to others who have a different body than you so it doesn't matter.
      Some references from high level speed and endurance experts:
      Stick with 20-meter sprints. They are the perfect distance for maximum effort without a breakdown of mechanics, says Coach Farthing. "Ten seconds is entirely too long for speed work."
      20 yard dashes based on the 1999 research by Lassi Paavolainen, suggested that improving 20 yard times led to improving 5k times.

    That is only true if you do that over a long period of time - When I let my athletes go full speed 3 0r 4 days a week before a track meet they do better - However these are short 30m or 40M sprints. I do this for athletes of all distances to improve their speed and most times they do PB's. My recommendation is if you go full speed 3-4 days a week give your athletes 2-3 days rest before a meet (For me rest means doing absolutely nothing but eat and sleep)
