    Great to hear you made the decision to strengthen your arrow system with a fixed blade head. When I started bowhunting in 1986 mechanicals didn't exist and we hunted with aluminum arrows @ 10-11 GPI with bows that barely touched 220 FPS. Pass throughs were never a question, yet we all got caught up in the speed game and the simplicity of screwing a mechanical on an untuned bow and thinking everything was "fine". It took me a while but thankfully I came back home to fixed heads! Our crew will be hunting with VPA broadheads this season including 3 blade and single bevel with head weights between 150 and 200 grains. I've seen great results from flight and impact tests with the QAD heads, I'm sure they will serve you well. Just subscribed, good luck this season!

    I've been using the exodus for quite a few years now and no thoughts on changing. My favorite fixed blade broadhead of all time

      Ive been more than impressed with them in testing. Can't wait for the season

    I really liked the video. Congrats on testing out the fixed blade world! I love the Magnus broadheads, but I’ve moved on to tuffhead. Last year I shot the meathead 265, and this year I’m shooting the evolution 200. Can’t wait.
    Sounds like we went down the same rabbit hole. I started building my own arrows, bought some of the same stuff, and I shot the Apollo’s last year (Orion’s this year). Did the same thing with the squaring, wraps (I went with reflective ones, some green, some white), alternating 4 green and white fletchings on the bitz. Haha.
    Good luck this year, enjoy checking out the single bevels the next year. I have 100 grain insert/sleeve and a 200 grain broadhead. Shooting 630 TAW - 4 fletched, wrapped, lighted nock. So it’s possible, with the right arrow, to get a solid setup, not too light nor heavy, and use a high quality broadhead.
    Cheers!

    Went down the rabbit hole of Ranch Fairy heavy arrow builds. Shooting this year a vap ss 300 spine, 75 grain insert with a 150 grain single bevel s7 cutthroat broadhead. total arrow weighs in at 550 grains. Flies like a dart out to 85 yards. foc is around 16%. It will do this year. Will go bigger next year. Hand loads keep it interesting.

    Kudupoint Contour single bevels, and for exactly the reasons you're describing. The first broadhead I ever bought was a Montec because I liked the design. I have since played around with several mechanicals and fixed blades, but I'm liking the flight, quiet sound, and the rotation I get after entry with the single bevels.

    • @jeffcordero_
      @jeffcordero_  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m no scientist, but it just makes sense to me that a full blade (or swept blade) would be quieter and all things equal on cutting surface and strength, why wouldn’t you shoot a full blade.

    • @davidrussell631
      @davidrussell631 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Only thing about my Kudus is they’re not the easiest to sharpen

    • @jakeller27
      @jakeller27 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@davidrussell631 you’re not wrong about that. I’ve been practicing sharpening my practice head and it’s tough to get it shaving sharp. I think I’ll go with a straight blade next year if I can’t get the hang of it.

    Good choice! I’m hunting elk and deer as well. For me it was between the exodus you picked and the Grim Reaper Micro Hades. I ended up going with the Micro Hades this year, but it was a tuff decision.
    Funny thing is I also have the exact set up as you besides I went with the Hoyt Ventum 33 in that same camo pattern. Good luck this season!

    • @jeffcordero_
      @jeffcordero_  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great choice! The Exodus was my first fixed blade. Love them, but never got great blood trails, even with heart shots. Didn't matter though when nothing ran farther than 40 yards. I no longer shoot mechanicals. Blades are too weak and penetration is lacking. I have been shooting iron will 125 solids, both single and double bevel and also the grizzly stick XL 125. I've had great success with both. Welcome to the rabbit hole of looking into fixed blades. My only suggestion when you look at them, is to make sure the blades are made with quality steel and not cheap or thin blades. Good luck this season and great video!

    • @timl8302
      @timl8302 ปีที่แล้ว

      I second the quality steel. I shoot125gr Stingers & will be switching to 125gr Black Hornets Ser Razors next year. Nothing wrong with them. Got a Stay Sharp device combo for Christmas. The Iron Will & Grizzly Stik are great heads.

    I've heard on some videos say that some states classify the swept blade version as a barbed broadhead and have made them illegal. That's why I'm going to shoot the full blade version

    • @jeffcordero_
      @jeffcordero_  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct. I should have stated that in the states I am hunting this year they are legal to shoot.

    Dude, for the last three seasons I have been shooting 920gr w/ 29% FOC and 315 Bishop single bevel. Got Tuffhead Evo 300's for this year to try. If you can deprogram yourself and realize most of your shots are 35 yards and in, it is like shooting deer with a 375 H&H. You aim at the heart from any angle and let em' fly. The QAD Exodus is a good start though.

    • @jeffcordero_

    I’m actually taking 2 into the field for sure. My #1 is an Afflictor K2 fixed and also the Exodus. I haven’t been able to commit fully to one or the other. The Afflictors do need to be sharpened, but they fly great. The Exodus are amazing right out of the package without sharpening.

  • @bowhunt9968
    @bowhunt9968 ปีที่แล้ว

    Welcome to the party! Lol. Been shooting the Exodus for years. They have never let me down yet. Mechanicals are for people who don't know how to tune a bow, and I know this because 90% of the people that I ask say they shoot them because they "fly like my field points" and "I couldn't get fixed blades to fly good"

    I killed a nice 12 point white tail last year using a qad exodus and that buck ran maybe 10 yards from where I shot and I watched him drop. I’m going to use them again this year and hopefully I can get another nice buck.

    QAD Exodus are awesome. Check your state though, the sweptback is considered barbed (thereby prohibited) in NY and probably a few other states. In those areas you’ll need to shoot the full blade version. Also, highly recommend you try Magnus hornets with bleeders, great broadhead and the customer service is top-notch.

    Great video! Heard only good things about the QAD exodus. I’ve shot Magnus buzz cut for the past 5 seasons with great success. Love that company. I’m going with Iron Will S125 this season just to have a better quality steel. They fly great.

      I've been shooting Stingers for about past 4 years. I'm going to go with the Black Hornet Ser Razor in 2023. They look wicked, 'Flying Battle Axe'! Iron Will are excellent, but, $$$$$. Also, Magnus has a Lifetime warranty @ around $50.00.

    Anyone have an issue with these broadheads fitting over an outsert or collar? I have Ethics Archery outserts on my arrows and worry that the broadhead might not fit. Also, Jeff: any update on how they did for you this season?

    • @jeffcordero_
      @jeffcordero_  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was able to kill one buck with them this year and they preformed great. Zipped right through him at 28 yards double lung. I am shooting them attached to Ethics components on some Sirius Apollo (.204) arrows with the half out system and have no problem, they fit very well. I have screwed some onto my Ethics components on my Sirius Orion (.166) arrows and the broached got stuck on the footer. Don't know if thats a common problem or just a fluke.

  • @davidrussell631

    Don’t think we can use those because barbed heads are illegal in TN. I hunt with 150 g single bevel Kudupoints and Cutthroats. And you’re exactly right about the vented broadheads. They whistle like nothing in the woods, and my guess is there’s been many a deer that might not have jumped the string had it not been for that.

    Keep going you'll get it done especially with like a guide into baby it took me forever but now you can shave your face with my broadhead a guide buffing compound and a leather strap and you're in there literally I seen a deer get hit in the front of the shoulder so up in his brisket area iyesterday it severed all of the arteries across his chest but did not puncture him a blood to death because that broadhead was so sharp that it cut everything it touched instead of instead of the Arteries being like a rubber band androlling off

    This was my first season using the QAD Exodus. I'm not sure I will go back. Took a buck a few days ago at 20 yards and was impressed. Punched through a rib, passed through, and dug 8 inches into the ground on the other side. Blood at impact was really good, but tapered off. That would be my one gripe about a fixed head, but it was double lung and mid body so the cavity filled up before it could really pour out. Have to imagine a lower shot would have produced a different result in a blood trail.

    Not a fan of the vented blades. Shatter/splinter going through. Worries me for the guys processing the animal. I’ve shot American Musclehead over the past few years. They stopped selling them. Changed to Annihilator XL 125 gr this year. My first year hunting elk. One piece, Chisel tip, large hole, ultra durable, and able to sharpen on a flat stone very easy. Looked at the Exodus, but the blades seem bendable, and can’t sharpen easy. Good Luck This Year!!!
