I absolutely love reviews like this. I love seeing how old technology is faring in the modern day, now that tech has changed and what not. As someone who used to use Androids all the time, one reason I’m ultimately glad I switched to Apple’s iPhones during the 11 era is the fact that Apple’s chips are just ridiculously too powerful to be pushed at launch. The fact that the 8, a phone released in 2017, can support iOS 16 which was released in 2022 is INSANE… this is an A11 chip!! Just goes to show how long Apple products can last and how useful they can be in the long term. That is honestly the most impressive thing about Apple’s products and why I honestly don’t think I’d be able to go back to Android.

my mom had the iPhone 6s Plus until 2022 so I made her upgrade to the iPhone 11 Pro. My dad had the iPhone 7 Plus until 2022 so I made him upgrade to the iPhone XS.
The reason I made them upgrade is because they had outdated phones that had issues. My dad‘s phone was literally bent but still working and the vibration motor came off and you can hear it rattling around inside the phone which meant it either came unplugged or the ribbon cable broke , which also meant that the fake home button didn’t feel like a home button so you couldn’t tell how to press the button although my dad got used to it like that. My mom‘s iPhone still has the physical home button and not the fake home button but I had issues with Reception and car quality which really needed to be fixed. The more important aspect of why I made them upgrade their phones because they were both charging on phones almost all the time and I got tired of watching that especially knowing that I had a brand new phone right now almost never charge, so I’m one of them to have new devices with efficient, batteries capacities and with good battery health. So they got new refurbished phones.

I first bought it in 2018 and used it until late 2019. The phone was performing very nicely and every day was a pleasure to use. Even though it's broken, I want to keep it, since it runs iOS 13.3.1, a very old version of software that still has the old widgets and the classic style notifications (i dont like the ios 15 style notifications as much). We got a refurbised iPhonw 8 for my dad because he needed a phone after refusing to get one for a while. He was using it regularly until the home button stopped working. Luckily the site we bought the phone from offered a warranty on the refurbished phones they sell and so we were able to make a waranty claim on it so we could get another phone instead.

Thanks for a positive review, I’m sick and tired of reviewers that use nothing but the iPhone 14 Pro trashing my home button on my iPhone 8. I had a new battery installed on my iPhone 8 in January 2022 and it’s down to 94% health but it’s very strong and I’m getting especially good battery life since downloading 16.2 yesterday. Yes! My wife loves the smaller iphones and has had both the SE and SE 2020 (still using), but I personally think the new SE should go to the current all screen design it truly would be amazing if they offered both.
I suppose the 13 mini sort of was that? Can’t say I know a ton about that phone. I used to tell myself (like my wife) that I would never enjoy a larger screen when I had a 6S. Went to an 11 Pro and never looked back and now on a 13 Pro lol I think this is perfect!

I have the 8 plus in white/gold, it looks great and it's still going strong, despite the ios 16 taking a hit on battery life and performance. Mine is still still usable because the battery is still good and it's fast enough, though opening apps take a little longer than before. The camera is decent but there are newer models with much better image quality. I'd say it's no longer worth buying, probably it's the last year of support and it won't last long after that. I wish the iPhone SE still had a white front as the 8 has, I know most people hate the bezels and the black front helps hiding it, but in white is very elegant, that's why I chose it.

Great information. My 8 Plus has a battery health of 80%. But with each iOS 16 upgrade, currently 16.3 beta 1, the battery life gets less and less. From 100% to about 50% in a few hours. Mostly texting and play some music.

Just gifted my mother with basically a brand new iPhone 8 and she loves it. She had a 16gb 6S with the original battery from 2015. (She doesn’t do much on her phone - and loves the “classic” iPhone design more than the modern iPhone designs). I happened to get this iPhone 8 from Verizon back when they had a get one free promo with a new line. Never really used the phone and it sat in a closet for a few years - so she got an 8 with 99% battery health/no scratches with the original box.

I didn't care so much, i was really mad but still didn't care my brand new phone died at 3 months since i had a backup older iPhone with even more space and months later got a newer phone so i never had time to enjoy it during its lifespan but ill try to bring it back to life just to see how fluid it was running its native OS and to see what 11yo me had in there

My phone, the XR, is only one year newer. That’s weird to realize, the two phones feel a world apart and yet they’re both the baseline model for their generation, one for 2018 and one for 2017.
And, my phone only being about 7 months newer than the 8 was when you made this video, it feels about how you described the 8 here - it’s functional, it gets the job done, there’s not much a newer phone can do that mine *can’t*, but having just bought a 2022 iPad Air it became apparent how much slower my phone is than Apple’s modern processors.
So, I’m planning on upgrading my phone soon, but there’s no rush. If the 15 has a USB C port like is rumored, that’ll be a great time to upgrade and finally have all my devices use the same plug - but, in the meantime, my almost-5-year-old XR holds up well, does everything I want it to (other than I often find myself wanting to use Optical Zoom which it doesn’t have), the battery still usually gets me through the day with just one charge overnight, and, well, I’m happy with it :) it was a great purchase for $800, that works out to less than $14 a month if I get a new phone in September.

Only ever really used iPhones and using an iPhone 8 since around 2019 I think, I got it second hand from my niece and she kept it in good condition and only gave it away to upgrade at the time. I can’t complain overall, been a good reliable phone but definitely seeing the battery life going down, it’s at 75% now when early this year it was around 80 or 85%, and it gets a tad bit warm when charging now, i am avoiding updating to IOS 16 cause fear that will make the battery even worse.

As for the battery, it usually holds up for a day, for example, it was at full charge this morning and now it’s 10pm and i still have around 35%! I think Its important to notice but I don’t use my phone that much especially when I have school, so that’s not really an accurate measurement.
