Well, Hugin can protect the fieldspell, so there is that, people can chain a runick spell on veidos to make hugin and protect the fieldspell, if my ruling knowledge is correct. Ofc you can as the opponent anticipate the runick spell and wait for it, but well, that makes things kinda messy. It definitely isnt that easy against runicks imo

If it wasn't for the Bonfire Tax I'd probably get my hands on those. They look really cool, their implied playstyle is interesting and they have this great niche with the Fieldspell disruption that can be relevant in a lot of matchups. I can already see them printing an Ashened Fusion that uses Pyro monsters on the field and gets some kind of protection and bonus when using the big guy. That sounds like something Konami would do.
For what its worth, i dont think Bonfire is needed at all in the Deck at present, as Priestess doesnt represent a 1 card combo, and also doesnt give you Veidos access. Instead you can just use a Wakaushi Engine to Access Infernal Flame Banshee, to add you any monster you could want, including Veidos.
Yep an ashen fusion monster looks like the dirction they are heading. The field spell making all your opponent's monsters special summoned to be pyro seems like we are getting a fusion monster that can fuse with on both sides of the field. Also if veidoes is part of the material to summon the fusion, gives you some additional effect. For example, on summon destroy cards on the field based on the pyro monsters on both sides of the field, then if veidos was a mat for summon, banish those cards instead. Cannot be destroyed by card effects. During your opponent's turn quick effect, you can destroy a field spell, destroy all cards on the opponent's field. I think a link 1 or 2 monster for ashened would be good that would special summon veidos dragon from the deck to the opposing side. If veidoes is already on the opposing field, you can take control of it until the end of the turn. A effect like that would help with the consistency of the deck.
So the Level 9, 'Veidos', is interesting in that it can be played outside of its archetype as a generic hand-trap. Against certain decks which are reliant on their field spell (cough, Fire King, cough) it can cause problems. Against certain cards which require you control no monsters to Special Summon (cough, Fenrir, cough) it can also cause problems. Also its worded in a way where your opponent can't really Link it off, since it causes a board wipe, which would require your opponent to either waste a negate or have their board wiped. It has applications. The rest of the archetype... needs a good second wave.
I think this looks fine so far. I like the loop it sets up. One of the biggest issues is that it's not that easy to get to Veidos, and everything revolves around him. You have to open either him or the spell, and you'd much rather open the spell if possible
I think it shoul even need a way to recycle back into the deck the field spell because combo with the spell requires two of them which in the grind game could hurt no?
Arguably one of the best underrated things about Veidos is it being a level 9, which makes it really awkward for using it as Xyz material to play around its Dark Hole effect, as well as there being no prominent Rank 9 deck or deck that uses rank 9s. Edit: though I can see people that run 8s playing Zombie Vampire since using a monster that your opponent owns but you control that has a level, it can be treated as level 8.
I seen people compare this Deck to War Rock and thats a streach. It may not be as good as Beetrooper or Gold Pride on their first wave, but it honestly feel better than Tistina with its 2 waves. And while it best starter has a harsh lock, is also the only card with any kind of lock, so I can it being used on AFD shennanigans
I hate how we are comfortable with konami making any new tcg exclusive archetype always being downright unplayable and having us hope it has "potential" being good with next wave of support instead of it actually being playable immediately and we see it as something perfectly fine.

I feel like all this archetype needs to be good is a spell/trap searcher for the quickplay spell, and maybe a spell or quickplay spell as a better target for Priestess and the deck is good. Some kind of powerful turn 1 set up to back up with a "play into this and wipe your own board" effect. Add on top of that the combination of the quickplay and field spell can be a floodgates if you put it on your opponents field zone during their turn.
I'm excited because I feel like Veidos shuts down Kash on it's own. Activate Wraithsoth, Chain Veidos. Stop the search and give them a body to prevent free summons

The Trap really should have been placed face-up by Veidos, and allow the adding to be once per turn, not on activation. The quickplay should have also placed an Obsidm from the GY or Deck. Would have made this way better.

Awakening of Veidos would be soooo much better if it was a Ashened spell. Like you would be able to do the combo loop off of Priestess alone which you can't currently. Feels like they did that on purpose. Hopefully we get at least 4 more monsters to feel out the deck and a more field spells and continuous traps.
I'm excited about the story arc of this archetype. I would bet the next wave of support is "Modern" people entering into the eternal conflict to put an end to it. They probably have some way of banishing.

I mean, Awakening searches LV5+ but we miss LV5-6 (so we'll surely get two more monsters like these) and Veidos doesn't only search for its own card but for continuous trap (so we'll get at least another one) and there are also no classic Ashened spells actually showing the plot. What you didn't consider in the end is that investing in this theme means buying a playset of Bonfire...
I think it's promising. I'm probably going to mix it with Runick. Flashing Fire pops veidos, Hugin can protect your field. The level 9 and 4 can work with XYZs. Infernal Flame Banshee can rota any of these guys. Awakening lets you place Obsidim on opponent's field so you can still use fountain. May also work with duality or shadows light somehow.
i know how to make this archetype broken, give it a level 1 tuner that can synchro with the veidos on our opponent's field as a quick effect. going first lets us look to end on a baron depending on our hand, and boardwipe on their turn or make a level 10 synchro if we just open awakening, second we can look to boardbreak with veidos effect and synchro into nuke. ideally it would either have a clause preventing the monster synched with it to die to veidos effect, or they would get a level 10 synchro that can innately survive it in addition to this
if the trap was just a tiny bit better this would be insane. imagine if the trap had a "if your opponent controls a pyro monster, you can activate this card the turn it was set " and a "Destroy 1 pyro monster your opponent controls"this archetype would be straight up busted..
A) I'm quite sure whenever these cards will be imported to Master Duel Veidos, Priestess, City and maybe Awakening will be URs. B) The lock on Awakening completely locks you out of the Extra Deck for all intents and purposes. There aren't any viable Pyros in the Extra Deck in the game at all.
I think the best way to play this deck would be to mainly use the quickplay on your opponent's turn when they activate a field spell. The pyro lock doesn't matter then. Link (or use with another archetype to synchro/xyz) turn 1 and then remove opponent's field spell on their turn.
“Ashened” is most definetly a reference to the “Ashen One”, your character’s name in Dark Souls III. Veidos references both the Dragon God from Demon’s Souls and Darkeater Midir from Dark Souls III, King is a reference to Godfrey from Elden Ring, Hero is a reference to the Fume Knight from Dark Souls II and Priestess is the Fire Keeper from Dark Souls III

"Kozmo viable from the first wave" made me laugh so hard... I remember when it came out, I was among those who wanted to build it but couldn't afford a playset of Farmgirl, but the deck wasn't really able to achieve anything, and Juragedo was the true reason why it was playable. This first wave is way better than that, the problem is the current power creep being almost the same as the DAD format.
Only issue is that playing this requires playing Bonfire.... Also, anyone wanting to pick this up should just wait until a few weeks after release anyways. The entirety of Phantom Nightmare will drop in price regardless, and Ashened is outright unplayable on-release, so they'll be dirt cheap.
Cards don’t just come from nowhere. Konami spends hours and hours tuning and testing these cards. Try making your own archetype on dueling book with customs and try to make it a fair balanced archetype. It is not easy and you will definitely have to go back and edit cards multiple times to add restrictions or to balance the power of certain cards. It’s not as simple as plopping them out of a magical hat! 😉
The more I re-read and re-listen to these cards, the more disappointed I am. Not really for the cards themselves, but because of the way that Konami handles them. Like, yeah, these cards are playable, but that should be a given in this day and age, specially for a new exclusive archetype. But WHY these cards have to shoot themselves in their own foot? Why has Hero to target ONLY pyros? Why Awakening is not searchable? if they didn't had this flaws I could say, hey, it can be a ok-ish rogue deck, one card plays somewhat consistent (Priestess, Bonfire, Awakening) can do something going first (a quick effect target destruction) and draws 1 card in the process, but doesn't really have the "ceiling" to be really top tier, but it could do things, similar to Evil Twins. BUT NO, we have to stick to a bare bones deck that is playable but does NOTHING and has slight anti synergy (mostly talking about Hero and Eternity) and, since it's apparent that they don't want to make this archetype good (otherwise this issues won't be here) I doubt a second wave is gonna be good (and if it's good, it has to go through some jumps to compensate, like an Ashened card that actually SEARCHES Awakening, instead of giving some toolbox) I want to be proven wrong and come here in a few months and say, that Konami outdone themselves and made Ashened a pretty respectable rogue. But I wouldn't hold my breath, as I even doubt that the OCG would WANT to fix it, like, when was the last time they "fixed" a TCG Exclusive and made it a respetable rogue/tier 2?
Sucks that Naglafar is a Beast-Warrior and not Pyro. Even though he has the Def line for a Pyro. You could have been able to play a Generaider package without needing Bonfire.
15:06 , no , u r ss veidos on their turn n u bring out hero , then u use hero to pop veidos , then hero effect places back obsidim but to your filed zone n veidos pops the field , this should be used as an interuption , doing in on opponents 2nd turn , u should always go second with this deck , n on your forst turn u should do more then then get all pieces togathwr to do this , having shifter or evenly in opening hand as mean of stop them for bringing out something like Appo first turn , u should play board breakers like dark ruler , lightning storm , and super poly max amount , then i go for 2 solemn judgement and 2 thunder king and 3 prosperity, in side deck , only Banshee and super poly targets are a must , i found red eyes , zombie vampire , BLS-SOC not bad in some situations , this the passive way is the obly way with this deck , just who can pass turn without doing almost anything these days 😂
I dont like that they're all dark monsters if they're really taking inspiration from dark souls. A lot of characters would be more associated with light or fire.

Ghost Ogre can't be used on the activation of a field spell so Veidos would be better against field spells like Perlereino that has an effect on activation.
veidos is so bad. all your opponent has to do to play around it is link it off into dharc and it becomes useless. it becomes a situation where you can't use the destruction effect without proc'ing dharc and also have to contend with more damage on board if your opponent chooses to revive it with dharc's effect so at the price of any additional body veidos's gy effect is completely neutralized.

Something interesting to mention is because Veidos specials to opponents field, cards like evenly and imperm can’t be used.

It’s an interesting archetype, but nothing that competes against some of the more consistent, crazy meta-archetypes.

Everytime I hope for a new BA and everytime I get dissapointed. Is it too much to ask for an TCG exclusive which is a good on release?
After the Danger! incident, I don't think the TCG is allowed to print very good exclusives.

The more I re-read and re-listen to these cards, the more disappointed I am. Not really for the cards themselves, but because of the way that Konami handles them.
Like, yeah, these cards are playable, but that should be a given in this day and age, specially for a new exclusive archetype. But WHY these cards have to shoot themselves in their own foot? Why has Hero to target ONLY pyros? Why Awakening is not searchable? if they didn't had this flaws I could say, hey, it can be a ok-ish rogue deck, one card plays somewhat consistent (Priestess, Bonfire, Awakening) can do something going first (a quick effect target destruction) and draws 1 card in the process, but doesn't really have the "ceiling" to be really top tier, but it could do things, similar to Evil Twins. BUT NO, we have to stick to a bare bones deck that is playable but does NOTHING and has slight anti synergy (mostly talking about Hero and Eternity) and, since it's apparent that they don't want to make this archetype good (otherwise this issues won't be here) I doubt a second wave is gonna be good (and if it's good, it has to go through some jumps to compensate, like an Ashened card that actually SEARCHES Awakening, instead of giving some toolbox)
I want to be proven wrong and come here in a few months and say, that Konami outdone themselves and made Ashened a pretty respectable rogue. But I wouldn't hold my breath, as I even doubt that the OCG would WANT to fix it, like, when was the last time they "fixed" a TCG Exclusive and made it a respetable rogue/tier 2?

Sucks that Naglafar is a Beast-Warrior and not Pyro. Even though he has the Def line for a Pyro. You could have been able to play a Generaider package without needing Bonfire.

15:06 , no , u r ss veidos on their turn n u bring out hero , then u use hero to pop veidos , then hero effect places back obsidim but to your filed zone n veidos pops the field , this should be used as an interuption , doing in on opponents 2nd turn , u should always go second with this deck , n on your forst turn u should do more then then get all pieces togathwr to do this , having shifter or evenly in opening hand as mean of stop them for bringing out something like Appo first turn , u should play board breakers like dark ruler , lightning storm , and super poly max amount , then i go for 2 solemn judgement and 2 thunder king and 3 prosperity, in side deck , only Banshee and super poly targets are a must , i found red eyes , zombie vampire , BLS-SOC not bad in some situations , this the passive way is the obly way with this deck , just who can pass turn without doing almost anything these days 😂

I dont like that they're all dark monsters if they're really taking inspiration from dark souls. A lot of characters would be more associated with light or fire.
If priestess was lvl1 at least it would have been a bad snake eye variant but for now it's unplayable

Dark souls archetype
Danger was more of an engine and not really a deck. They were really good but they weren’t that great as it’s own deck.
I feel like this deck is clickbait to get people to try and get Bonfire lmfao . Also idk why I feel like some how this deck works with the Dogmatika engine… coin me now lol

I find it funny how people talk about veidos as being this potentially generic card even tho ghost ogre is objectivly better in every circumstance in generic use
Ghost Ogre can't be used on the activation of a field spell so Veidos would be better against field spells like Perlereino that has an effect on activation.
Looks cool but extremely mid. The dragon is the only interuption you have and the rest are just bodies.
veidos is so bad. all your opponent has to do to play around it is link it off into dharc and it becomes useless. it becomes a situation where you can't use the destruction effect without proc'ing dharc and also have to contend with more damage on board if your opponent chooses to revive it with dharc's effect so at the price of any additional body veidos's gy effect is completely neutralized.
They're cool cards it's a shame Koonami made them to milk more Bonfire money.
