Do you have to install all the plugins on the live site too or are these included in the import file of the local site?

Hi Darrell, thanks so much for this tutorial, super clear for a beginner like myself. Initially, i used this tuorial and the spplication to try setup a local website with a Wordpress account that already has a working website attached to it. That didn't work, i don't know whether the reason was that it already had a website on that account, i couldn't figure that out... Later i tried to create a local website using a different Wordpress account (with a different email address) and that worked! Super happy, but now i'm a little bit confused because I don't know what exactly caused it to fail the first time and to succeed the second time with a different WP account / emailaddress... Hoped you could maybe carve out a little bit of time in your busy schedule to elaborate on this, thanks so much in advance!

    Hey Darrel,
What is the best practice - To always work locally then upload when finished? Then if you want to make edits after its live, should you again work on it locally?
Last question: Whats your opinion on using this versus something like siteground staging?
    Thanks a lot!

    • @luisbltrnvelasquez4307
      @luisbltrnvelasquez4307 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I'm so sorry no one answer you, but it's a good question, in my opinion, depends on the edit, if it's still a big one, that could crash the site, then obviously do it locally, if they instead are css things, well, you know the answer.

      From ChatGPT:
My first question: How about updating my website on wp local after it's being uploaded? Can I continue to use wp local to make changes to my website and then replace the already installed one with the updated version?
      From ChatGPT:
Yes, you can continue to use your local WordPress installation (wp local) to make changes and updates to your website, and then periodically update your live website with the changes you make locally. Here's how you can do it:
      Make Changes Locally:
Continue using your local WordPress installation to edit and update your website content, themes, plugins, etc. You can make any changes you want on your local development environment.
      Export Changes:
When you're ready to update your live website with the changes you've made locally, follow the steps to export your website using the "All-in-One WP Migration" plugin, just as you did initially.
Upload and Import Changes on Live Website:
Upload the exported file (containing your changes) to your live hosting server in the same way you did previously.
Access your live website's WordPress admin dashboard.
Install and activate the "All-in-One WP Migration" plugin (if not already done).
Go to "All-in-One WP Migration" > "Import" on your live site.
Import the file containing your changes.
After the import, you may need to refresh the permalink settings by going to "Settings" > "Permalinks" and clicking "Save Changes."
      Test Your Live Website:
Ensure that your live website is working correctly and that the changes you made locally are reflected on the live site.
      Backup Regularly:
Always keep backups of your live website before performing any updates or changes. This ensures that you have a safe point to revert to if something goes wrong during the update process.
By following these steps, you can maintain a development environment on your local machine (wp local) where you can safely make and test changes. When you're satisfied with your updates, you can then transfer them to your live website to make those changes visible to your audience. This approach is a common practice in WordPress development and allows you to develop and test without affecting the live site until you're ready to do so.
My second question: Do I need to install all the plugins that I installed (Let's say woo commerce, elementor, etc) for my wordpress local installation in the web hosting where my website domain it's being held or all the details of my website will be installed without needing to install plugins?
      From ChatGPT:
When you use the "All-in-One WP Migration" plugin to export and import your WordPress website from your local development environment to your live hosting environment, the plugin typically includes all your website's data, including posts, pages, images, themes, and plugins. However, there are some important considerations regarding plugins:
Plugin Data: The plugin will include the data associated with the plugins you've installed on your local site. This means that if you've configured settings or added content using specific plugins like WooCommerce or Elementor on your local site, that data should be transferred to your live site when you import.
Plugin Files: While the plugin data will transfer, the actual plugin files themselves may not. Most migration plugins, including "All-in-One WP Migration," do not include the plugin files in the export file. This is because the plugin files are typically already available in the WordPress plugin repository, and WordPress itself handles plugin installation from there.
So, here's what you need to do:
WooCommerce: If you've been using WooCommerce on your local site, you should make sure that the WooCommerce plugin is installed on your live hosting server before importing your site. You can install WooCommerce on your live site by following these steps:
Log in to your live WordPress dashboard.
Go to "Plugins" > "Add New."
Search for "WooCommerce" and click "Install Now."
After installation, activate the WooCommerce plugin.
After WooCommerce is installed and activated on your live site, importing your site using "All-in-One WP Migration" should bring in your WooCommerce settings and data from your local site.
Elementor (or other page builders): Similarly, if you've used Elementor or any other page builder, ensure that the page builder plugin is also installed and activated on your live site. You may need to reinstall and activate it from the WordPress repository if it's not already present.
In summary, while the "All-in-One WP Migration" plugin does transfer plugin data, you may need to manually install and activate the plugins themselves on your live site if they are not already present. It's a good practice to check and configure your plugins after the migration to ensure everything works as expected.

    1) So everytime I change my website on Local, I have to upload my entire website to my live Wordpress-website? I'd like to make changes and make it live immediately, once I've tested it on LocalWP. Without uploading my complete website every half an hour.
    2) My upload remains 100.00% but does not close or give me the pop-up you showed. Upload was 0-100 in 5 seconds. I'm waiting already for half an hour to complete.. Upload is just 700 mb.

Thank you for this video - it is very informative and I am hoping to follow your tutorial on setting up a wordpress site using blocksy. I do have a problem with localhost though. I cannot get to see the website, I get the following error (Windows - chrome) ‘No input file specified’ when I click on Open Site or Admin. I can, however, see the database if I click ‘Open Adminer’. It has a different port number - is that the reason and, if so, how do I change it?

This is the way I build WordPress sites for clients. Easy and straight forward. Question for Darrel: is there a way to use SVG other than the image module?

Darrel; I'm using LocalWP for the first time and have imported several pages of the Divi author's layout. Normally I would go to my WP dashboard Settings --> Reading and choose Static Page, but there is no Static Page choice in my LocalWP / Divi installation. How do I select Static Page when using LocalWP?
