Your hunting could be an air leak, possibly pump diaphragm, pump to intake pipe has a hole/crack, intake gasket hole. Or your idle isn't set correctly on the throttle linkage. The starter could be a few things if you have no luck with the rod/switch setting. You don't have to take it off if just adjusting the rod length, which seems to be fine👍

Check the timing chain tension. Sounds like its hitting the timing cover. Nice TEF BTW.
