I think a lot of the productivity influencer sphere has confused "habit," an automatic action that takes very little mental power to conduct to the point that it's almost unconsciously done, with "routines" or even just regular tasks. The routine is having a shower, but the habit is the order you clean up. Blurring the distinction between each of these has made me so frustrated, as well as my neurodivergent friends, because there tends to be an expectation that doing something repeatedly will make it a habit-but that's not always true.
My doctor recommended early morning sun for me to help with my sleep stability and it really helped. I use an eye mask and ear plugs every night and I fall asleep so quickly after wearing them.
One way I integrate play is playing with my cat! I get so into the imaginative roleplay, like what critter I pretend the toy is. 😂
Mindfulness is one of my favourite simple concepts to incorporate throughout my day. It helps me get regrounded into the physical world instead of being stuck in my head, and that is especially useful for me because I have a knowledge/mental job that uses a lot more brain power than physical power.

Great point about routines vs habits - there's now a breakdown video rumbling around in my head for this!
I LOVE playing with the cat as a playful thing. It's so relaxing and fun to connect with another living thing and pets are a great example of this.

For me part of the problem is the intention. You use bare definition, which is right. But many people want to their routines to make them into habits. Their goal is to form a habit. I believe this is the source of (wrongly named) habit trackers.
If understand you correctly a habit does not need to be tracked. Maybe it can not be tracked.

Kind of ironic watching this video & feeling super exhausted and unproductive today, then seeing the “enough sleep” as the first advice and remembering how I woke up from a missile attack on Kyiv early this morning. No hate or negativity to you, of course, just a reminder for myself that sometimes it is not my fault that I am tired & unproductive💔

      but we're moving on!

Absolutely ❤ Really, the simplest thing that would fix 97% of our problems is if we were able to remove life and death sources of stress first - going all the way from making sure we get our basic necessities met to dealing with missile attacks and beyond. Hope you are doing well and staying safe and thank you for commenting!

Sunlight, What’s that?? Lol I live in the Mid-West Jan, Feb are tough months. If you can’t get real sunlight, my Dr. Told me to make sure to take vitamin D. It has helped me and family’s moods.

Thank you for showing a great tip. I use an aura estelle vertical week planner and sometimes it's just confusing when I start to time block and still don't even understand why I am time blocking or confuse about what I need to do first since everything looks like a priority to me. I will give this a try and hopefully it will help me prioritize and incorporate my other interests into my daily schedule.

A lot of days I have to get up before dawn so getting sunlight right away is impossible. I do have a wakeup light from Philips, I believe it's the Somneo. Other brands might work just as well. The main point being it's a lamp that simulates the sunrise right next to my bed every morning. It also has a sundown setting if you have trouble falling asleep at the end of the day

OOO getting in early!! Love this topic btw! I've had to completely strip down my planning and habit goals. It feels like a lot of what I was trying to do was because... I was told I should! Thanks Rachelle!

I have no four-year-olds so unfortunately I am not the best resource for this 😭 I will say, Laura Vanderkam's book Off The Clock changed the way I think about time and sleep. She is a parent and describes tracking her sleep time, thinking she only got a few hours a night, only to find that she was making up for her poor nightly sleep with naps and other rest throughout the week. Thanks for commenting!

Who ever said to get sunlight in your eyes first thing in the morning either doesn’t have kids or has someone else caring for them… I am a mom of 2, I wake up wayyy before the sun is up. 😅😅😅

My husband and I turn on our LED "happy lamp" in the living room or wherever we are for a good chunk of the morning every morning. Even if its dark It's not 100% the same but it does let you get a lot of the benefits. Good for the kids too!
There's tons of different brands, just need a super bright tablet shaped LED
