Shon - THIS is how the entire world was introduced to George Michael and Wham. It's just a bit of novelty fun now - but still a great one. George did some fantastic songs in his solo career as well. Could you please so the official videos for One More Try - and Praying for Time. BOTH will absolutely blow you away! Cheers from Canada!
I knew Wham's earlier stuff before this song came out. Wham Rap. Bad Boys. Young Guns. Club Tropicana.
George Michael was extremely talented! But.... he also was one GORGEOUS man❤
The moment everybody got a crush on Georges !
This is one of my " guilty pleasure" songs! My friends would make fun of me because I liked this song. I don't care, it's a fun song!😊❤
I used to play this every morning when I was getting ready for school. Rewind play repeat a few times everyday. It got me pumped up. RIP George
Ah yes...the beginning still brings back great memories of seeing this on MTV. We all were wearing those shirts.
I saw this on Friday Night Videos at age 16 and thought this song was the bomb and George was absolutely gorgeous.
I'm Your Man is a great Wham song! Highly recommend.
I cannot overstate how immensely HUGE this song was, practically overnight. This was THE hit that year and the video fashions were copied everywhere. Basically this is the song that launched George Michael's entire career.
This is literally one of the very first songs I ever remember hearing on the radio in the mid 1980s. It will never get old to me.
My mom LOVED George Michael and took me to see him live in the 90s. This song was played so much in our home, our parakeet started to say "jitterbug."
Brings me so many wonderful happy memories of my youth. A real banger that everyone loved!!!
Perfect pop fluff! George was always brilliant but took so much flak for this. He was 21 years old and he wrote everything, did the vocals, played almost every instrument, and produced the album. How many people could do that at such a young age?
What is even more amazing is that he wrote "Careless Whisper" as a teenager.
Prince
Total vibe of what the 80s were to all of us coming of age back then. Like David Lee Roth once said about the 80s, "the clothing smiled, the music smiled," and we all were having a good time.
this song makes me do the "Carlton" dance from "The Fresh Prince Of Belair"..
Shon I gotta say, the smiles you put on my face are in the same ballpark that Mr. Video does!! I LOVE GEORGE MICHAEL!! He was, is, and will continue to be my 1st love!❤❤🎉
I love your energy, Shon!! Especially your enthusiastic energy reacting to the great George Michael. Yes this song was Wham!'s first #1 hit in the US and UK. And yes, George wrote this song, after Andrew left a post-it note on the refrigerator for his mom, and it said...."Wake me up before you go go". It was a writing typo and he didn't realize he put the word go in there twice. George got a kick out of it so he wrote a hit song about it!! The rest is Wham! history!! George was a musical genius, in all aspects ❤
This song is iconic
This will get you up dancing, such a great song!
George Michael, Freddie Mercury tribute concert. Somebody To Love.
Now, wasn't that fun! It would've been fun to have you on the dancefloor with us back in the day. We had a blast.
Love this reaction.
Have a great day!
Careful! This is one of the most powerful ear worms known to man!!! About 40 years now that I've been living with it!!😢😅😂❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
Check out George Michael covering "The Long and Winding Road".
Amazing vocal performance.
This was a monster hit for them. Back in the day fitness was big so it was not so unusual for them to wear shorts like this. The whole video is a party.
I can only imagine the memories that you have with these songs vs the memories that we have with them. They are very different! Great review, Shon!
I hope you bring your positivity and great attitude to Duran Duran. They ruled the 80s, as much as Michael Jackson or Whitney, the mid 80s belonged to this group from Birmingham. Wild Boys, Hungry Like the Wolf, Rio, A View to a Kill, Ordinary World, they have such great and iconic hits.
Yes to Duran Duran!!!!
Yes please!!
I think of the gasoline scene from Zoolander every time I hear this song now lol
Wham! was so good. Loved seeing Andrew Ridgeley induct George Michael into the Rock & Roll HoF recently. So many relationships get ruined when an artist goes solo.
George Michael "" THE STRANGEST THING" (studio version) is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
George Michael matured into a serious artist, terrible to have lost him so young
Yep. That terrible gasoline fight accident.
I just loved your reaction to this video. I love wham a George Michael. The energy in this song and the video just puts a smile on your face❤George’s voice is just absolutely amazing and the fact he was one of the kindest most generous man to ever walk this earth just adds to it. And he was so handsome it is unbelievable❤
#1 Hit in the US and UK. Great reaction!
Great song! Check out some of George Michael's solo music. He could sing and had many solo hits!
Takes me back to my bestie and i at 15...precious memories x
And that brass section!!! 👍👍😊😊😮
George Michael:
One more try
Don’t let the sun go down on me with Elton John.
This is one of the coldest pop songs ever written. Wham's bassist, Deon Estus was their secret weapon, and one of the best bass players of that era.
Shout out to the brass section on this too 😊
Wham..! the best pop band ever.. please watch I’m Your Man, Edge of Heaven, Everything She Wants…. 🎼🖤
Wake me up before you go go!
It's 2:00 a.m. in Las Vegas and I'm dancing in my laundry room.
Thanks Shon!
❤
The song was silly - even at its time - but it started a whole trend with the t shirts in the video - and of course, George used this as a starting point....
This song WAS a No.1 hit. At least, in their native UK as well as many other countries. And if you think about the kind of competition around in 1984 (Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, Queen, Duran Duran, Phil Collins, David Bowie, Elton John all still in their prime) that's quite an achievement. :D
Danced along! Great reaction 😁
80's rock band Cinderella must see Somebody Save Me, Nobody's Fool & Gypsy Road.... great songs!
Yes!!
Just wanted to say, I'm happy you mentioned George's songwriting, because you're right, he was a pretty great songwriter. I'm pretty sure I remember that George once said, that Wake Me Up, was a perfect Pop song - for the time. can't say he's wrong.
Really digging your reactions - keep it up!
Oh the 80"s and those t-shirts started by Wham and Frankie goes to Hollywood...😂
Please react to Duran Duran "RIO" (original video). 🙌
So Glad You Enjoyed This Shon This Was WHAM!'S First No1 & Your Right This Song Is Just So Much Fun. & It's 40 Years old 😅😅
GREAT SONG 😊 I BELIEVE IT CAME OUT ABOUT 1984.. ONE THE FUN ONES✨️✨️✨️
Great, Awesome Reaction! ❤
I just love them ❤
The Shorts are called "Budgie Smugglers" here in UK🇬🇧😂
Flashback fun!
Awesome reaction! Thanks ❤️ Much Love! #Hangovergang
Omg I'm loving this, watching a young man get taste of your parents and grandparents music. He was such a a Good Looking guy lol We knew he wasn't Straight man and some us would try thou. Sexy omg sexy.
People really thought Liberace was straight too.
When WHAM! hit, George had not come out. Those shorts were a hint.
Those were called Dolphin (Dolfin) shorts.
Shon, Your reactions are simply Brilliant! You truly enjoy the music you listen to. It's a joy and pleasure to watch You. Sending Love, Peace and Prayers, God Bless❤❤❤
You should listen to Depeche Mode- Personal Jesus, A Flock of Seagulls- I Ran, and/or Tom Petty- Don’t Come Around Here No More.
Hello Shon, I thought I'd leave another suggestion, if interested. This is a new artist to give a listen. He has a very soulful set of vocals with that raspy grittiness that everyone loves to hear in blues, R&B and soul music. "Joe Cocker - Unchain My Heart 2002 Live Video" (by the channel: NEA ZIXNH) --Joe Cocker was an English singer known for his gritty, bluesy voice and dynamic stage presence. This tune has a really big infusion of gospel and the blues. So be prepared to be taken to "church" lol As always, I enjoyed your reaction and thanks for sharing.
love your reaction 🥰 George was my pin up in the 80s
Subscribed. More George please! 😁
Love the t shirt choose life. He will be missed. Typical 80s shorts, not longs😂. Rip GM.
Would love to hear your reaction to Jonny Lang's LIE TO ME. Right up your alley. I swear.
Jonny is so good!
Great reaction
Shorts and skirts were all like that back in the early 80's.
OMG! Long time no hear. 😊
Shon.. you just have to check out more Wham! and George Michael.. Freedom, Praying for Time.. too many to mention.. Rest in Eternal Peace George Michael, my angel 🖤🎼
Any song you react to is a treat, Shirtless Wonder! You definitely need to check out his masterpiece "Freedom 90" and the official video, which features all the original supermodels. It's my personal favorite👍
Just fun and feel good music. Back in the 60's its was called Bubblegum Music. No REAL message to it. Just that kind of music that makes you want hope into a car with your mates and cruise around all day and night.
You need to react to George Michael & Queen - Somebody to Love from the Freddy Mercury tribute concert & George Michael & Elton John -Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, both live concerts
God I love George Michael!!!❤❤❤❤
You can tell neon clothing was popular when this song came out.
hey Shon, would love to see you react to Robbie Williams singing Angels live at Knebworth 2003, you wont believe the crowd, i bet it gives you chills !
You really should listen to Club Tropicana. Absolute banger of a tune. Reminds me of summer on the beach
Deion Estus's bass on this is sick...
Go back even further and check Wham Rap!(Enjoy What You Do) and Club Tropicana
Can you believe that we believed he was straight?
Greetings from london Shon.
I remember where I saw this vid the first time. I wonder if others do too?
The late great George Michael....
Michael wrote
This is a fun song, but it really doesn't do GM justice. Father Figure, Freedom 90 and Monkey are also great choices. Could you please add Duran Duran and INXS to your must do list? Start at the very beginning and check out Planet Earth by Duran Duran and The Loved One, live from Australia in 87 for INXS.
Father Figure, Freedom, I Want Your Sex by George Michael. All very worthy songs.
Better Wham! songs: Bad boys, Club Tropicana
A banging toe tapper 💜
#shon you should react to Jermaine Stewart's We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off.
You want to try something else from it from George Michael try Father figure
People still thought George Michael was straight when this song came out.
Be honest man it was a more innocent time. Nobody even considered GM might be LGBT 🏳️🌈 We just had great music when I grew up. Glad you able to peer into my Formative Years. He’s got bars. Basically Pop Rap
Yeah. It was during the gay panic of the 80s, I remember 😂
Try listening to his song fast love
See what you make of that
Wait until you REALLY get into George Michael's music, his songwriting is why he had over 3 decades of success and his music will live on and on.
You can go shorter. They called speedo's
aka budgie smugglers 😂
NO, NO, NO. Look, I love WHAM and all but why does everyone react to this song and Careless Whisper and call it a day on George Michael? He was so much more than this and has a full catalog that must be heard! React to any of his live music - anything from the Concert of Hope in 1993, anything from the MTV Unplugged Session anything live. He was pure perfection live, had the best backup singers in the business. Check out any of his duets with Elton John, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige - I mean come on...who else can have duets with these powerhouses and no only hold their own but send the song straight to #1.
You know what I think about when I hear this is how George Micheals is doing in Hell tick tock tick tock
Really? For what asswipe? Please explain in your best bigoted Christian voice. Also, the Bible is a fairytale.
