Great voice, better than some of the singers that had longevity. If Rick didn't harm himself w/drugs, I believe he would still be singing great music. Great entertainer. Prince has had some good songs, but I love Rick, he's more funkier.
Best Live Concert I ever attended! It was so crowded up front that everybody pushed it other off the floor so you spent the entire concert several inches off the ground swaying to Rick like a giant wave…!!
I have this DVD and will always love seeing Rick James. But the sound on this DVD is very poor. I wish they would put his concert in Long Beach California on DVD. That was the show with Teena Marie. That night Rick was in a zone. Nobody could not top him.

It would have been such a creative development in this genre and would probably have prevented them from playing their more distorted stuff. (and from sleeping with so many many many women)

... No one here's comparing those two man... And either way, Prince's career spans a lot longer than Rick's does, so you can't just go pick his pop songs and say Prince isn't funky. I mean jesus, what about Dirty Mind, Controversy, DMSR, We Can Funk, Let's Work, I mean the man has tons of funky songs. As for singing, if Rick's your cup of tea vocally thats cool... But last time I checked, Prince's voice sours above his in terms of range...

Rick is probably in hell now 😢 and would not advise you to listen to his music or lyrics or watch the devil-horns-handsigns he used to show. He would most probably shout to us: "Believe in Jesus and flee from sin and use your talents for God and salvation of souls." It's no loss that you missed this show way back when.

People really did sing and play instruments. i.e. Brittney spears and many can't sing, let alone live. I like to go to concerts where they sound like their orginial songs. Now that I can agree with. Rick James is just plain funky! I think Prince could have made his music as funky as Rick's, but he went for mass appeal through pop. Which is a shame for him. They're both great artists none the less. It's just a shame that this days youth only knows of them through Chappelle's show... Great show and all, but man.
