    Hey Adam! I am a recently new subscriber to your channel, and I’ve since used SwingTweaks. Seriously, so much help and very affordable. With that help, hopefully I’ll break 90 before the end of the summer! Thanks for doing what you do!

      Glad to have ya here!
      Another positive review for SwingTweaks. It's nice to have a channel sponsor who is actually helping viewers' golf games, as that's what I'm trying to do, too. I do the course management bit, and SwingTweaks does swing stuff. It's a good match lol.
      Do you carry a handicap index now? And have you ID'ed what areas of the game you want to shave strokes on? Keep grindin'!

      @@NotAScratchGolfer good to be here!!
      I have not established a handicap index yet…I plan to do so very soon. My scores tend to fall in the mid to high 90’s so I’ll just say I’m a 25 handicap at the moment. The part of my game that needs the most help at the moment is off the tee and the 2nd shot. In and around the green I’m doing alright for the time-being. The info I got from SwingTweaks has been pretty awesome though…I’m heading to the driving range later today to start the grind!

    Nice round. I'm curious how you got on at Stanford. Did someone host you? Always wanted to play at Tiger's college course. I did grow up a few doors down from his family home in Cerritos prior to leaving the state.

    Im from Massachusetts and I’m a huge fan of your channel Adam. Your approach to the game has helped me immensely. I’ve always been around a 15 handicap and for the first time in my life I have reached a single digit handicap!! I’m a currently a 9! What I found most helpful is how you analyze every shot and taking the ego out of club selection! Thank you

    Great stuff Adam!! One thing I think would serve yourself better, and all amateurs, including myself who’s a single digit player, is know your carry distance with each club better. Example is #2, you had 198 yards to the pin but you seemingly were only concerned with a club that would go around that distance. I don’t know if you took this into consideration or not but you had a flier lie and imho should’ve been pulling a 180 club and considered you’re probably going to get ten to fifteen yards rollout. Ultimately it worked out for you as you got a par, just an example of knowing carry distance and considering your lie.
    You probably did all that, you just didn’t verbalize it and I typed all that for nothing LOL! Point being , most amateurs don’t know how far they carry a club vs how far the club goes. When I got fitted for my clubs I carried my 7 iron 173 yards (give or take) but it rolled out as far as 190 depending on how clean I hit it which makes a huge difference on spin rate.

    • @NotAScratchGolfer
      @NotAScratchGolfer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was a round that certainly felt like a 90. A couple of birdies + a sneaky amount of pars offset the big #s, I guess.

  • @jamiesloan7259
    @jamiesloan7259 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I shot -5(67) Tuesday at my home course. And +2(73) Saturday, on a strange course. The difference in ball striking was very different in those rounds. However, I approach every hole the same…. I actually do it just the opposite of you. I aim for the center of safety off the tee, just as you do. But, I’ll set up with the intention of hitting a purposely thought out shot “shape”. On a hole where there’s only trouble left, learn how to hit an anti-left shot, even if the fade turns into a bit of a slice. Im basically telling you to eliminate one side, with a very predictable shot shape. It’s hard to play good golf, with a potential two-way miss. Trying to hit a “straight” ball every shot is VERY unpredictable. Especially with driver, or longer clubs. This thought process almost always leaves me a clear shot at the pin. Notice I said PIN. Anything 160, and in, I’m pin hunting. I’m playing every hole for a birdie putt inside of 20’. Birdies are how you go “low”. Your short game is plenty solid enough to save some pars, when you have to. Moral of the story…. Learn a predictable shot shape off the tee. It’s why most pros play a fade now. It’s an easier shot to learn, and the dispersion is more predictable. That way, you’ll never leave yourself in “trouble”(blocked out, hazard, or OB). Then, go for more pins. More birdies will cover up those bad holes. Your putting will reward you with 4-6 birdies per round.

    Pretty bad short game for you this round. Yet you still grind out a low 80 and this fascinates me, as a person playing for 4 years, and stuck in the 120s.

    nice vid! you can very quickly see how your golf brain works. I've been trying to repeat your methodology with my game and along with some practice the confidence I get talking the preshot plan through and I've very quickly gone from 18 handicap down to 12. It would be a life goal to be a single handicapper!

    • @NotAScratchGolfer
      @NotAScratchGolfer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man, I'm going to repost what I said about Stanford elsewhere in the comments: of every course I've played on the channel, I think Stanford's greatness gets lost on camera more than any other course. The holes on flatter ground are really well framed by strategic fairways bunkers and tough green complexes, all of which are very well protected but fair. Then there's a great mix of holes with elevation change - some subtle, some extreme. It's also in fabulous condition!
      This trip was back in March.

      My general rule of thumb is to play a course with a rating no harder than ~1.0 above par and a slope of no greater than ~135. I'm flexible, though. I'm happy to play whatever tees my group is inclined towards (although may choose to play one tee back if yardage is less than ~6,000 or one tee forward if yardage approaches 7,000).
