I live in a similarly noisy neighbourhood. It could be helpful to use a magnetic loop where you can adjust a variable cap to the desired frequency. Thanks for the video Nick! The Icom receiver is doing a good job on shortwave.
I have the R8600, and deciding between the 890 and K4D in addition. I appreciate the comparison, but I see the R8600 receiver as a complement to one’s transceiver.
@@MZEBLUE i collect radios so I have tons of them. But if you are trying to decide whether or not to get the 8600… if you buy a transceiver with a good enough receiver inside then you don’t need the 8600. Just buy an Icom 7610 and be done
Like many other shootout on youtube, you are more comparing the speakers than anything else. A speaker makes a big difference when listening weak signals. They appears probably similar. Obviously, the TS890 has a better speaker.
another plus for R8600 , you can use sdr-control software with your ipad and mac or icom RSBA1 software for windows to listening controlling the receiver locally or through internet
Do you know how AM Sync works? You need a strong enough signal to hold lock. The 890 doesn’t have Sync but since I used the preamp on the 8600 to hold Sync, I used it on the 590 just to compare an apple to an apple
Hi Nick, I mentioned recently, I bought a TT RX 340 and it arrived this week. Honestly, it looks like it just came from Ten Tec as brand new. No scratches on any covers, the front panel is perfect and the display is bright. It's just perfect and works as good as it looks. Do you still have your 340? Have you compared it to your R390A on weak signals? If you still have both units, I'd love to see you do a shoot out on those two plus the Harris 590. Take care, Glenn
Hi Glenn, my 390 works but is not in top shape. It would be a waste of time to test that. I might get motivated to compare the 590 and 340. If you have a 390 please test it against your 340 and make a video. It aint hard, just use your phone! You obviously already have a youtube account
A qiete chaotic tuning.., and often a unexacly reception-tune, only difficult to difference..., to both radios..., shame.. but nevertheless thanks... ,greetings of Germany, from Op. Andre, DH9AB,as SWL and Ham, 73.!😮

I'm enjoying all your videos. Thank you.

Thanks for the shootout! I really appreciate it
OH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The good old days!!!! 🙂 Notice how good the DNR works on the DSP2 receiver... Robert

Kenwood is far superior in rx & yes I own both.
….where they overlap.
At 11:35 why not use the Kenwood Beat Cancel?
N7WS
I have a Ethernet cable on my 8600, so you can NTP the clock to auto set..

I guess that’s a plus…. More menu based and computer controlled operations. Me, I like to operate radios. I like buttons, dials, and switches
Open890 for kenwood
Keenwood for sound
Thank you Martin
Thanks brother I think I'm sold on 890
Why add preamp to a noise level of S5?
