just bought a v star 650 for my first bike and i’m loving these videos man
That's awesome man, the 650 is a great bike. Thanks for watching! Cheers.
Me too!
Thanks for the Video. I'm a new rider(no bike yet) and only have ridden the HD883 in training. I posted on the biker life FB group and someone suggested this bike as a beginner. I'm 5'8" 225 lbs and want something that's not crazy fast, can put both feet on the ground and I wouldn't be scared of to drive down the highway. Your video and you being 5'6" gives me inspiration. Thanks!
How did you like the 883? If you think that was a good amount of omph I'd look at starting out on a 900. Cruisers are a lot different than sport bikes. With being 225lbs and 5'8 you can prob step into a 900cc cruiser off the hop and you wont feel like it's slow nor will you want to upgrade after a year... might last you longer. If you get into the 650 you will most likely want to upgrade to something bigger after your first season. Especially if you're taking it out on the highway. Not saying the 650 isn't highway capable, but at like 70-80mph it doesn't seem like there's much more it can go.
The XVS650 is one of my favorite bikes I've owned over the last ~40 years. Yes it's very flickable in the twisties and after making an exhaust and rejetting the carbs for a BAK she'll return 48 mpg droning on the interstates at 70 mph and the throttle response has improved as well. It's definitely been a nice reliable and comfortble bike to ride all over North America on.
What's your thoughts on the larger vstars or Stryker / raiders? I love my 650 for the city but I want something bigger for the highway.
@@SnackDetour I also had a XVS1100 which was a great bike and my bro and his wife now tour all over the country on it... it's been stone reliable. The Stryker and Raider are also fantastic motorcycles but I prefer the Raider's motor more, not because of the ridiculously overboard displacement but because it's an undersquare motor which has a different power delivery than an oversquare motor. BTW, I'm a huge fan of a shaft drive on a non-sporting street bike but IMO a belt has got to be the best option when it comes to simplicity, low maintenance and reliability so props to both the Raider and Stryker for that.
Thanks for your input! Im pretty impartial to the Stryker for the styling.
This bikes a little baby beginer girls bike it’s embarrassing actually for guys to ride. i FEEL embaresing FOR YOU
@@keithquinn5624you are what ruins motorcycling hahahaha calm down mate
Hi there, I just bought my first Yamaha XVS650AJ Classic. I am taking delivery of it next Tuesday. I am very excited- haven’t ridden bikes in decades! This is the first motorcycle TH-cam I have watched, it was a buzz watching you riding. I normally watch TH-cam videos about Excel or other software. Anyway I might watch another video! Take care.
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Pretty awesome getting back into riding after not for a long time! Ride safe. Cheers.
Me too
I am 5'6" with a 29" inseam as well and my 650 Classic is perfect. I Road Police Road Kings for years and loved them, but the 650 Classic is just like it, only 200 lbs lighter and sexier styling. That shaft drive makes it handle like a dream. Of my 6 personal bikes and around 6 police motors, by 650 remains my favorite. Thanks for making and sharing your videos!
I bought my vstar after seeing your video about it. First year riding it I put 4k miles on it. This year Ive been riding everywhere as my daily. Hasn't let me down yet either 🎉
I love my 2005 VStar 650 Classic for all the reasons you talked about. But mostly the Seat Heights. I have a 29 inseam as well I can plant both feet on the ground. I have never been able to do that before on any motorcycle. But I have to add a number six- The bikes weight. I am getting older and have knee problems and it’s weight coupled with the fact that I can plant both feet on the ground makes this bike so much easier to maneuver. And with AN aftermarket exhaust like the Vansen Hines short shots and a really good after market Air intake this bike will easily keep up with a V*1100s and I still have the light weight. The perfect bike for me. Unlike other middleweight bikes there’s seats are usually on comfortable. Not the seat on my 650 classic. I could ride all day and my butt never hurts. Thank you for your video. I agree with you on all points but added one or two of my own and I enjoyed very much watching your video. I gave you a thumbs up for sure.
More Vstar Vids mate
Aussie Vstar owner under our restrictions that we have we are restricted to 650cc, it was not the fastest Cruiser but in my eyes she is big and beautiful. And that exhaust note 👌
Good vid
Thanks! Of course, more to come until the snow starts flying 😂
Dude, I've been riding about a year now and my newest bike that I've upgraded to is a 99 V Star 650 and I absolutely love it. I dig your videos dude. Stay safe🤘🤘
Thanks dude! 🤙🤙
Had a 2001 for five years put 20K miles on it, took it Sturgis 4 times, 5 states, iron mountain road & million dollar hwy. Just got a 2004 Honda VTX 1300 with only 4600 miles on it. "Levels to the Game" Ride Safe!
You should definitely make a video on maintenance work you do on the bike, just your main pointers on what you think should be maintained the most
I most likely wont be able to make one until next riding season. I do most of my maintenance at the beginning of the riding season, as here in Canada I only get to ride from May - Sept/Oct. Cheers!
Snack Detour same! I live in Alaska so it’s basically the same
@@chrisssergio Crazy! I always wanted to visit Alaska. Cheers!
Snack Detour cheers to you!!
oil, filters, tires
... plugs and adjust the valves every 20miles
and ride ride ride - this is a 100,000 mile bike, and you never have to touch the drive shaft
Our city also only has 2 seasons, construction winter, and construction and closed summers, and of course there is always that "OH, CRAP"!!!! 1 lane with no warning...... ride safe Bro....
Nice keep the V star vids coming .
More to follow 😁. Cheers.
It’s quick and sounds great 👍 I love mine!🥰 yes top speed really is 85
Throw some V&H Cruzers and rejet to make max speed 95
@@lifeischeesy It's shaking itself apart at this speed, and burns up oil. 55-70 mph is the sweet spot for this bike imo, and yes, mine is rejetted.
@@ВасилийПетров-ы8й I take mine to around 95 pretty often and some loctite holds all the hardware in place. I’ve only had a problem once with saddlebags vibrating loose because I didn’t loctite em.
But to each their own brother. Stay safe
@@lifeischeesy thanks, you too.
Iv owned all kinds of bikes from scooters to HD’s I even had a 78 yam 650 hardtail.
I’ll never own a hardtail again..
Sold my Harley early this year and I’m missing 2 wheels like crazy. My friend has a o3 yam 650 v star for sale. Iv mobbed a friends before. They are slow but comfy.
It’ll just be good to be on 2 wheels again.
Good video man I went bk to a 650 vstar I love them good bike.I had a gsxr 600 but got rid of it to go bk to my star
Both are great bikes. Different purposes and riding styles. My first bike 16 years ago was a gsxr 600 haha. Cheers
Great video. The rear fender is really cool. Where did you get it?
The company I purchased it from no longer exists. So might need to get it custom made for your bike.
I do recommend putting an inline fuse that powers the ignition side of the ICU box , should be located behind the battery left side plug orange and gray wires are the negative signal I believe to the coils and then it has one positive red with a black ground You're wiring maybe different but that's how it is on the US XvS 650. I tried to save a buck and bought some cheap coils Long story short they shorted out and fried myICU box . problem was solved after I pulled out the shorted wire ran a new one and bought some Dyna 3000 ignition coils for it with a new 3000 box I'll tell you what advancing the timing a little bit and set the RPM limit at 7200 it screams down the highway now.
Thanks man, I'll keep that in mind!!
I did the dyna coils and the 3000 box as well. Its a different bike now. Can actually lift the front tire now!
Mu girlfriend just got the same bike. Lack of power she says it's not fast enough for her on hiway great for in town and reliable is best part of import bikes. Harley Davidson a look nicer but cost too much for parts and you will be repairing your Harley alot. She had a sportster that was bored out and had more power but it kept break down. Thanks for sharing
stock Vstar 650 has more HP than a stock Sportster 883
if you think the bike is underpowered you are lugging the engine. Rev it until the rev limiter kicks in, and you will see how fast it can take off when you know how to ride it.
I just got one!
i love my Vstar..i have the 2020 Vstar classic
Hey , I love about my Yamaha Virago 535!!!!
I have one as my Harley trainer once I get of my restricted license will upgrade to Harley lowrider
It's my first bike, I like most things on it but not all of them. It's annoying that I need either a stand or someone else sitting on my bike to check oil level. Also, for some reason mirrors tend to unscrew from time to time on higher speeds or when wind is strong. And I despise carbs, in my opinion they're just an annoyance. But hey, maybe they work fine for others. I am not a fan of wrenching stuff, I just like to ride :)
Add a little bit of temp lock tight to the mirror bolts and you won't have that issue hah. All bikes have that issue with the oil level screen 🤣. I do hope you enjoy riding your bike tho hahah. Cheers!
Get a telescopic mirror at Walmart and check it while sitting on the bike
these bikes dont leak or burn oil. you dont have to check it unless it starts leaking out
are you missing the lock nuts on your mirrors, because they are left and right handed threads so that wind cannot make them loose, unless you are riding the bike in reverse
Be sure to keep the splines in the final drive coupler lubed up! That’s the only reliability issue I’ve found on mine when the coupler grenaded on me and left me stranded once lol
I like your mirrors where did you get them ebay I hope
I got them off amazon, check out the link in the description.
I just got a Vstar 650 that I’m bobbing out. Where did you get that fender? Can you send me a link?
Sorry dude. The guy that made them stop producing them.
@@SnackDetour Is there a fender you know of where I won’t have to mod it to make it fit? Looking for a short fender
@@noahanderegg3406 blue collar bobbers come to mind. They're a bit plain in terms of the look, but they're short and it's a bolt on kit.
@@SnackDetour awesome! Thanks man, appreciate it
@@noahanderegg3406 no problem dude! Ride safe.
What kind of aftermarket mirrors are thoese. Just baught 05 vstar. 650.
Here's the link! www.amazon.com/Krator-Mirrors-Adapters-Classic-Stryker/dp/B016YZY2SU/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=yamaha+vstar+mirrors&qid=1601683619&sr=8-13
I'd appreciate a sub if you haven't already! Cheers
Thanks brother I'm.subscribed.
What kind of oil do you use in your v star? I use 10w-40 full synthetic, but before I had 20w-50 in it which is a thicker type of oil and I heard the oil pumps are small so I hope 10w-40 will be really good for it
I also use a full synthetic 10w-40. As long as you're doing regular oil changes it doesn't really matter between the 20w-50 and 10w-40. I think it depends if you live in a place where it's constantly hot. If so 20w-50 might be better because the thicker oil will protect your engine better. For me in Canada most of my riding weather just warm / cool so I'm ok with the thinner oil so the pump doesn't have to work so hard. I also don't get to run my oil that long before I change it, as my seasons are short. Cheers.
@@SnackDetour that's good to hear🙂thank you
How many miles does your v star have? I plan to have mine for a long time
@@SoapHorizons789 about 24000. Which is very little for this bike.
@@SnackDetour dang😃 I just reached 10,000, that's good to know, I'll be happy if I get atleast 50,000 out of it in the upcoming years, I'm always easy on it
- Random question.
What do you use to record the audio/video?
I use a GoPro with an external mic. Cheers!
What year is this and how many miles do you have on?
It's a 2008 with roughly 15k miles.
How fast this bike 0-60? I am 5'6" also do you recommend me to buy similar bike or take the bigger engine?
I believe 0-60 is 8 seconds. Is this your first bike? If so the 650 is great starting platform. If you been riding for awhile maybe step into something bigger if you're comfortable with the added weight. Thanks for watching!
@@SnackDetour i had a sport bike before Ninja 250r and I want to switch to cruiser bike since I live in Washington state and it is always rain here
If you were switching from a 600 Sportbike I'd advise a bigger cruiser, otherwise you may be disappointed with the power. However with the 250 it maybe be less nimble but should be adequate. If you do alot of Interstate riding I would still get something bigger. The 650 gets a bit buzzy at 70mph +
40 horsepower isn't a lot but it's plenty 😇 also I'm averaging about 48/50 miles per gallon on my 650
I think I can do it in 4 seconds
Winter and Construction 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wouldn't use this on twisties unless you like the sound of metal on blacktop. It's got very little lean angle but then again you wouldn't by one for twisties
your name is jax.... perfection, lmfao
My last name isn't Teller lol 😂
Why do you not like it for long distances?
