  • I had been searching the market for new hand planes to my workshop. There are several brands and models but they're usually so expensive tools, so after a long research on the internet, I figured out how to recycle my old cutting discs from circular saw and plywood remains.

    I have seen many methods when it comes to making planes and I can confidently say without any doubt that your method is the best so far but my only worry is the material you used which is plywood, is it strong enough for making plane?

    • @Paoson_Woodworking
      @Paoson_Woodworking  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, it's strong enough. You can also glue a piece of harder wood to the base of the plane

    Nice build. Any particular reason you went with plywood over traditional beech wood or other hard woods? How well does the end grain plywood hold square after repeated use?

    • @Paoson_Woodworking
      @Paoson_Woodworking  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Sighthound Studio Birch plywood is very hard and works perfectly. Over time you may need to flatten, but this also happens with other materials such as steel even. I used plywood because it is easier to find and work

    Buena la idea, buena la ejecución, algunos intentaremos copiar la idea, y lo que más me ha gustado, fenomenal vídeo, editado, ritmo, música...
    Si, ya se que estamos en un vídeo de carpintería, o... "woodworking", puesto que lo cuentas todo en inglés, pero en el mundo de youtube, si los videos están bien hechos se agradece y es mucho mejor para todos.
    Un Saludo.

    We recently lumbered a 36" maple, a 36" white ash, and a 32" pecan. After drying, we tried planing with a Rigid (Home Depot) 13" planer with 2 HSS knives th-cam.com/users/postUgkxIzvvTi3_Qc8JnVdYYRJCvuoDC4QjTzeL . This job was clearly too much for that machine. The pecan was particularly difficult, due to heavy mineral deposits, and a sharp pair of HSS knives would be consumed by a mere 3 boards. We were also having lots of problems from chip bruising, due to poor dust collection. The shavings came off like straw and jammed in the 4" hose.We bought the DW735 simply to be able to run carbide blades, which worked brilliantly for the pecan. However, we found it to be a much, MUCH nicer machine. It was far more rigid than the "Rigid" planer, and far more accurate as well. But what I liked most about it was the dust feed. This machine has its own blower, which shreds the "straw" like shavings as they come off the cutting head and helps boost the shavings into the dust collection system. No more clogs! It's also nicely sealed so that the internals stay quite clean. This is just a well tempered machine that's a delight to use. It literally cut the labor in half. Just another example of getting what you pay for.

    El contrachapado como material para el cuerpo del cepillo(mas bien un garlopin por el tamaño)no lo veo mal.Sin embargo yo le hubiese puesto una suela de madera dura o metal para evitar el desgaste prematuro.En cuanto a la cuchilla si bien el acero empleado no es el mas adecuado, puede servir para maderas blandas.Aunque esas esquinas azules tras el esmerilado no son un buen sintoma.Aun asi enhorabuena.
