  • Lifting the Toes at the Start of the Press Handstand can be challenging. A combination of Flexibility, Strength and Balance is required, but the ratio of these can be explored to find your quickest route to the Press. Use more Strength by increasing the Planche (shoulders forwards of the hands) and or bend the arms. Use more flexibility by compressing the legs towards the Torso. In the video I demonstrate these plus show you how to Assess your current level.

    This looks good Paul! I think I will prefer this method to using a small jump through that lift off zone. 🙃

    • @PaulTwyman
      @PaulTwyman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the small jump or momentum is good but it’s hard to fine tune or slowly reduce

    This helped tremendously! Like, I‘m nowhere near a press to handstand but I am a step closer to getting the actual forces at work. Like, where the levers are and just the biomechanical stuff. I couldn‘t it figure it out but thanks to your demonstration I got it now. Looking forward to actually train for and achieve my handstand press this year (well, achieving it might take me a little bit longer but who cares) :D

    Thanks Paul useful video. It wasn't easy to see from the video, but when you bent your arms did the elbow travel outwards our back towards the legs?

    • @PaulTwyman
      @PaulTwyman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The elbows stay more on top of the hands. External rotation will help to load and create a stronger base, so have that intention but don’t actually move the elbows

    Great video as always. As a trainer, what have you most enjoyed training others to achieve and why? And as a teacher, what have you discovered the most interesting within your experience as a teacher?

    • @PaulTwyman
      @PaulTwyman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love teaching any of the skills, so when a client achieves their first handstand, muscle up. Then as I’m getting older compared to the majority of other trainers I love to keep achieving and helping others to do the same at any age

    Thank you! You are the most relatable couch. I have a question. What does it mean is in straddle press to hs one leg is moving higher than the other one? Some weakness somewhere?

    • @PaulTwyman
      @PaulTwyman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      just means you right on the edge of your 1 rep max, so your body is trying to find the easiest path.

    great idea paul😊i have a small question that if i just slightly bend my arm ,can it be corrected in the future 😂i heard that bent arm training can be hardly change

    • @PaulTwyman
      @PaulTwyman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes definitely. I’d bend slightly on the way up and practice straight on the way back down

      I started this style of training at age 37. I’ve just turned 46, so 9 years. Before that was standard gym training and some crossfit

  • @jimmychafins
    @jimmychafins 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see that bend in the arms when you and many other kick up to handstand sometimes…is that a quick correction for an under balance or over balance kick..?

    • @PaulTwyman
      @PaulTwyman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bending the arms allows you to control the under balance but also works as the breaks to stop you going into over balance. Combine this with the straight arm toe pull wall drill and you will build a super strong handstand

    How does your butt float on top of your shoulders that seems impossible to me i am flexible and thats what i dont get. and what's your core doing during the press i dont feel my hip flexors working the press to handstand is to me a rather very confussing move

    • @PaulTwyman
      @PaulTwyman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most people will push the hips backwards as they forward fold deep but we need to learn to push hips up and forwards over the hands. It’s more about learning to load the upper back and shoulders to build a strong platform for the hips to stack on top of.
