The reason why the Philippines got poor in the 80's till the end of the 2000's is overspending our fiscal budget during the Marcos era, halting and disrupting business activities and investments during the Martial law era and ruining our business sector by taking over private corporations and giving it to his cronies and even Marcos reorganized the government to appoint him as Prime Minister and plunder of the nation's wealth makes it worse, Pro-Marcos coups and reorganizing the government and constitution bringing instability in the nation during the Corazon Aquino era, Though the Philippines 2000 program was a success, The Asian financial Crisis ruined our growth during the Ramos era, In Erap's regime, incompetency and all-out war in the south let to his downfall by Arroyo. Nah, that's wishful thinking. The villagers don't actually own land in the area, and the company that owns/develops the area don't want to give out prime (coastline) real estate for free. In all legal aspects, those villagers would lose. Also, I would predict if people actually got the land there for free and knew how much it costs, they would readily sell it for a quick buck, knowing they could easily squat anywhere else.

Very dissapointed at a poor effort to cover the real story of Typhoon Yolanda by 101 East. Poor journalism! This is nowhere close to the real story! I am a Yolanda survivor. I am not at all suprised that 101 East reports from only a small area. They did not venture to the west, where many are still waiting for help that will never come.
AYALA will take care of the island better than the community. These people will be more educated on how to take care of the environment when the resorts are finish. Most Ayala Resorts, the locals became thankful of their presence. Environment is there priority. Most of the lands their are privately owned to begin with. As a government, why would you want villages to be in the coastline. To be able to make use of it, ofc you invite private firms who can take care it themselves and if there is another disaster it will be the private firms responsibility. They are building roads on the island for the people use in that island. Interviewing "locals" ? Are they even "locals" in cicogon? This video is so biased. You do not know how Filipinos think and why most of the times, big companies are better to have their presence in the island.

I found this reportage to be wanting. You need to look into the ethos here before you accuse any sector of misconduct. Filipinos' votes are sold and bought! In most cases these corporations pander to the local and regional government and that's where the deals really happen. The peons indeed do not have a "say" because it's now down to the officials they sold their votes to. This willful waste of the right of suffrage is then taken advantage by the politicians who will bargain with whoever can line their pockets sufficiently and by the megacorps as how they see fit.

Power and money talks in the Philippines, and Filipino politicians and judges listen. Simple fact. Corruption is everywhere in the Philippines and its the Filipinos fault for putting their politics and politicians first before national interest. that in turn created a succession of mediocre and corruptible politicians that the rich people and companies have been buying off for years. So now you get a country mired in debt, with every major player from gas, electricity, telco and food industries providing BS service and products and still be allowed to overcharge the people. thats why mixed economies model (s) like scandinavian style is best for people . or lets say for 98%, USA style extreme capitalism would be better for richest 2% for sure but ethically even rich people like me choose much more likely to be very rich instead of superb rich if (when) 98% gets much more than they would get in free capitalism/corporate economies ..basically our system is mix of market economies and socialism, state controls some important and critical areas like military, hospitals, healtcare system, part of incurance system, railways, electrity system for sure and so on. on some of these areas also private companies are allowed but more regulated than in free corporate capitalism. actually USa style system is more likely corporate socialism but anyway. on the other hand pure socialism like USSR had is almost as bad aand non-working as free capitalism and we have seen darkest sides of socialism; it leads ALLWAYS to holocaust, terror, and/or large purges of own people..atm our biggest thread is arabic nazism called islam, as my afgan-finnish and somalian friends says, islam is arabic ethnonationalism/nazism but even more evilness as ww2 germany had :/ lets defend our great western societies that bases on christian-jewish heritage and values. islam MAY be good IF it would got reformation/liberazion but only as secular reliqion, not as political system as its nowadays. actually quaran isnt even reliqious book, its arabic version of "mein kampf" beside muhammad killed more by own hans and raped thousands jewish, christian and other girls ..lets stand together for love, freedom and God bless you
Disaster Capitalism is Good, because it helps rebuild the city faster, and bring more jobs to the people, if the corporation wants to build resorts to bring more tourist in your city and create more jobs to the locals, i think that is fair enough.
For clarification, these projects were assessed and approved by the former Aquino administration officials especially the relocation housing projects, not by the Duterte administration.. Business as usual and sorry for the inconvenience is Philippine Capitalism.
Ragudo. That's half a lie. Even if this was approved by Aquino. If Duterte thinks that this is an injustice he could easily overturn that and better the settlement and the development of the area. He didn't. He's just as to blame as the previous President. This is what Filipinos don't understand. It's never just one hand alone that is stained wrong. You could do by building an efficient fishing village on a nearby a coast more suited for fishing boats and make the fishermen fish for local fish and to be sold in the resort hotel as to sell the tourist finest seafood delicacies caught locally and bring tourism points to the hotel and a stable livelihood for the village community.

You don't have to capitalize every letter you type. Only the time of Arroyo, Aquino have made the country as successful as it is right now and we will see how much Duterte has improve the country.
Also while religion has stunted our pursuit to science, it's the culture that dumb people insult people who are intelligent and resent them, and they hate anyone who are irreligions due to that is heresy for them. If you want to leave religion fine by me as we are a secular nation, just be careful from the idiots who are fanatical to their religion.
Sicogon Island is a tourist destination before Haiyan typhoon. Boracay and Gigantes island is around that area. Stop fake news please! Tourism is good for the economy of the Philippines.
The most shocking disaster was on years 90's where you see a bulldozer loading dead people on a dump truck for transfer to a mass grave.
looking up to American capitalism leaves the poor behind.
FEAR KILLS FREEDOM DON'T GIVE UP
The Philippines, as most countries of ASEAN are ruled by the Superrich, Kings and Oligarchs over the oppressed majority of Its people. Democratic movement are bloodily crushed. Opposition and freedom of the press suppressed. The Rich, behind their huge Corporates and Foundation are increasing their money since decades and the population is mercilessly oppressed. The military and police are subordinate to these powerful people, who have little interest in the common good, and by the way, not many in the Climate protection.
if my house got leveled I would happily be in debt to a big corporation than be homeless
Al Jazeera doing it again. Foreign journalists shedding light on a 3rd world country. Thanks for making us feeling bad again for living in the Philippines. We all know what goes on here, you can't write any segments that will make the filipino people proud of its heritage? Feel good type of journalism maybe?
A free market system based essentially on limited government intervention prohibits the grant of privileges to businessmen over other businessmen. This is not the kind of political and economic system in the Philippines. So, it is misleading to say that the corruption of some big Filipino businesses (allied with government) is "Capitalism".
These corporations are so unhuman. :(
I wonder how you can live with yourself doing things like this. Why does the President allow this things to happen? No wonder people start taking drugs..
Guy in red shirt...he most likely was getting kick backs...
mxferro Not just kickbacks when your “boss” was appointed rebuilding czar!.
This rich people will die just like the poor ones. Only thing is they cant take it with them lol. If you have nothing and die you lose nothing but if you have millions and die you lose it all cant live forever
Just for people that doesn't know. The typhoon happened under Aquino Administration, the relocation houses for the people. help that they should've gotten from the gov't wasn't fully received and was corrupt by the officials.
I LOVE STEVE CHOW!! 💗💗💗
So ashamed of my ancestory to see a governmemt behave this way.
Catholism did this
Rossario says the relocation sites were to far from the coast line
Two minutes earlier she said.there should not be rebuilding on the beach. Make up your mind The people live in goverment substandard by choice just like section 8 here in the states.
Actually she said that fisherman were moved inland whilst resorts were built on the coast, that will not employ the people that used to live there. So the fisherman lost their lives, homes, and their jobs and were then prohibited from living and working in the newly developed areas.

Tacloban before and after the Typhoon. The new TACLOBAN is better today.
How can Tacloban be better now? Before the typhoon there were thousands more filipinos alive, now they are gone. New buildings do not equate better.
@@ramonlopeziii217 visit there then you will know
For your information, I have visited Tacloban after the typhoon. I still say that Tacloban is not better just because it has new buildings. Tacloban can not be better after losing so many people. Lives mean more that any new building.
@@ramonlopeziii217 you wrong waray people are strong we keep moving after that disaster.. you are the one who think like that..
Very dissapointed at a poor effort to cover the real story of Typhoon Yolanda by 101 East. Poor journalism! This is nowhere close to the real story! I am a Yolanda survivor. The Philippine government was not prepared then, nor are they prepared now. Thousands upon thousands of families promised new housing, goods, relief, etc...they never got it. I am not at all suprised that 101 East reports from only a small area. They did not venture to the west, where many are still waiting for help that will never come.
Once again from the smallest barangay to the political dynasties at the top, corruption and greed prevails!
it is written separation between church and state.. but for the state and private companies..inseparable
600 bodies in a mass grave in Leyete!!! 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
John Doe that's just in Tanuaun, the bigger mass grave holds 6,000+ dead.
Ok. Im searching for tagalog documentaries for my essay but there's no such things like that
They need to have a minimum wage. Job opportunities are nothing if the company’s can pay people 1-5$ a day.... No worker’s rights
WHERE IS THE DONATION OF OTHER COUNTRIES WHO HELPED PEOPLE TACLOBAN.
So my comment now in July 2019, ..almost a year from this stories appear hear..whats happen to the villagers now?? ...now jus regrets that ive shopping at Ayala Malls many time when im at philippines..pls never support inhumanity company like Ayala again
rebuilt the town pretty fast (in under 5 years)..so the super-typhoon wiped out the shanty-fishing villages along the coast, then in moves the luxury resort developers to land-grab the most valuable real estate
Wow... imagine all the kickbacks. Corrupt politicians are swimming in money right now.
Philippines have beautiful woman 💚💙💜💗
at least I'm aware.
Thay are like woffs packs devouring the poor soon thay will know that all is vanity life comes first one love from Jamaica
It’s amazing all undeveloped country was once under US have since separated are doing well. Philippines poverty under Capitalism will never end until Philippines separated to the slave western idiology.

Phillip is making sea wall like Japan, but considering how poor phillip is comparing to Japan, it is not practical.
There is no such thing as a competent government regulatory commission in the Philippines that are actually looking out for the welfare of the people. In the country, Companies, not consumers, are kings.
this should be the case. how can GDP increase with poor people. Only the ones on top can help the poor by giving them jobs
You mean just like in Puerto Rico?
Who standing up for the poor not the President nor the rich desperation
To harsh. Ayala cooperate with the govt to respond to money
Why didn't they just ask God to stop the typhoon?
If public sector is not corrupted and working properly , no one need private sector. Private sector going to earn it's share from this but atleast something come out of this unlike public sector.
Only the rich people can generate jobs for the poor people. Forget about public sector, too much corrupt practices and politics, only the relatives get the job referral..
It's About Capitalism Of Ayala / Sideco vs Resident of Sigocon
Where the people of Sigocon fighting for their rights and dignity against Ayala and Sideco who Force people to leave their island Sicogon 😪

Cant believe the Philippines president alow that if he did he is no good remind me of marcos this could not hapen in Jamaica
thats why mixed economies model (s) like scandinavian style is best for people . or lets say for 98%, USA style extreme capitalism would be better for richest 2% for sure but ethically even rich people like me choose much more likely to be very rich instead of superb rich if (when) 98% gets much more than they would get in free capitalism/corporate economies ..basically our system is mix of market economies and socialism, state controls some important and critical areas like military, hospitals, healtcare system, part of incurance system, railways, electrity system for sure and so on. on some of these areas also private companies are allowed but more regulated than in free corporate capitalism. actually USa style system is more likely corporate socialism but anyway. on the other hand pure socialism like USSR had is almost as bad aand non-working as free capitalism and we have seen darkest sides of socialism; it leads ALLWAYS to holocaust, terror, and/or large purges of own people..atm our biggest thread is arabic nazism called islam, as my afgan-finnish and somalian friends says, islam is arabic ethnonationalism/nazism but even more evilness as ww2 germany had :/ lets defend our great western societies that bases on christian-jewish heritage and values. islam MAY be good IF it would got reformation/liberazion but only as secular reliqion, not as political system as its nowadays. actually quaran isnt even reliqious book, its arabic version of "mein kampf" beside muhammad killed more by own hans and raped thousands jewish, christian and other girls ..lets stand together for love, freedom and God bless you

It's when people tolerate corruptness in favor of their biases that things fall into ruins. And ruins is what we have now.
Dumb people like you blame everything to the past admin.
Stop worshipping your Duterte, dude.
Corporate greed sucks, but the way they frame this story around capitalism, its conflating a separate issue. Isn’t the problem that the government allows this to happen, while supplying no help. Rodrigo D seems like a nut job to me, but i haven’t been to the Philippines in a while, and cant speakers to the details.
