When this movie was in the theater in 89 it scared the heck out of people I had never seen anything like it I also read the book there's more to the story than what the movie portrayed
If they had made the original 1989 movie 2 and a half hours instead of an hour and 40 some minutes, I think they could have done the book a lot more justice. The original movie is still better than the remake, and it is very close to the book even though they left out some things. They actually did film more things, but they were cut out of the film, and as far as I know, they have never released the deleted scenes for the original movie. I do know that the part where Louis screams "nooooo" when Gage dies, he was actually holding Gage's mangled body in his arms, but they cut that scene and you can't see what he's holding. There's also a still shot of Pascow floating up in the trees when Louis is going to bury Gage, but that scene was cut from the movie as well. They should have added more to the Timmy Baterman part in the movie because in the book, that part is really terrifying, and of course, they should have shown the Wendigo and added the parts where Gage says those horrific things to Jud when he comes back.
The truck was a Peterbilt, not a Mack. I grew up two doors down from the small yellow house. Used to mow the lawns at both houses. My wife, myself, and our three children were behind the camera for the scene where the house burned. We were on the porch at the big yellow house with the Charles Lewis, who owned both houses. He grew up in the big house. The facade had big propane burners in each of the windows. The clapboards had been painted with rubber cement to make the facade more combustible. When the director yelled 'cut and print', the town's fire engine started up but had a great deal of difficulty engaging its water pump. It was a VERY disconcerting few minutes for Charlie Lewis. When the blaze was extinguished he ran behind the charred facade to check on his small yellow cape. He and his wife, Betty were living in the small cape all during the movie filming. He returned and allowed that the movie people really knew what they were doing. He couldn't even smell the smoke inside his house. Last time I checked, the Hancock County Sheriff's office still had a failure to appear warrant out on Denise Crosby. It seems she had a snootfull and tried to drive her rental car up a railroad track. It was one of about eight rental cars wrecked by the film crew.

Hello! Just found this video, and wanted to add some additional info… My childhood home (located in Brooklin, Maine on a street called Cemetery Road!) was used for the interior scenes of Jud’s house. I was 5 years old at the time. The kitchen scene and porch scene, etc. were filmed in our home while I lived there. I remember meeting the actors and remember the film crew trailers parked on our lawn for several days or weeks. If anyone wants to know more, let me know!
