Ok Robert, this has intrigued me for yonks. Question: You are clearly recording before you attach to a fish, then, as soon as you connect, you reach for the camera (I think) and an audible 'pip' emanates. What is happening here?
Bill - there is a feature on a GoPro called ‘Hindsight’ that effectively has the GoPro recording all of the time (i.e. using battery all the time) - you can then set ‘Hindsight’ to always be recording either the previous 15 seconds or the previous 30 seconds of your activity - I select the latter configuration option - when I hit ‘record’ (the audible ‘pip’) then I get the previous 30 seconds of activity automatically plus regular footage from that time - the previous 30 seconds is always enough for me to get the actual cast plus the hookup - the downside is that GoPro is effectively recording all of the time so 1) I carry 8 full batteries with me all the time and have to swap every 40 minutes 2) the GoPro overheats on hot days when I am recording at 4k / 30fps… I have had pretty clear feedback from those who watch my vlogs that they are most interested in where and how I hook fish - which is why I spend so much time explaining my setup (rods, reels, lines, leaders, tippet and flies) and where I cast to actually hook the bigger fish (stream craft)…
A wonderful explanation,@@robertlouis24, thank you. I note my bad manners in my original request. Not a 'please' nor a 'thank you' to be seen. I'll go and stand in the corner for a while . . . and wear the stupid (impolite) person hat. I was thinking it might have been a change to a different (higher) definition or similar. I don't have difficulty with rigs, fish, fishing, style, technique, etc., I'm simply not a technological 'giant.' 😂 Thanks again and very best wishes. From my perspective, you do very well. Post script: Unusually, I'll be in that region for a week or so, come March and I am so looking forward to it.
@@BillSaltbush Ha…it’s all good - I am a software consultant and have very thick skin - I have been meaning to explain how I get the casts & takes (sometimes - when the damn GoPro is not overheating) - and your question presented me with a perfect forum - I should be thanking you…
