Nice video. Brings back memories before Covid when I was Gus’ first ever angler on the drift boat. He still calls me the crash test dummy. A great day out in a great place. Can’t recommend it enough.
Thanks Simon! Haha, hopefully you didn't crash into too many trees! Yeah it is a great day out, I'd not done drift boating for trout before, only cod. Would definitely do it again. :)
Nice. Always a great day on the Tumut! What a great bloke Angus is, too. All the guys down there are top notch. And he did the filming for you! Good stuff Steve. Cheers PP
Great stuff Steve. Enjoyed your piece immensely. Just like you, a pal and I, in recent days had the opportunity to do a similar trip down the same river. Funny how different guides have different philosophies. That river has some very big, strong fish. We were slapping size 6 grasshopper patterns (size 6 - could you believe that?) hard against the bank and finding ourselves attached to 4 and 5 pound fish - not in the same numbers as you though. I flinched when you spoke of 5X and smaller tippet. We took advice and were using 1x - and needed every bit of it. Terrific stuff mate and loved every bit of it; well done. 👍
Thanks so much mate, glad you enjoyed it! It’s a great river and I think you need to adjust your techniques to the river conditions and flows, sounds like you had a top day! :)
time of year, river level and other things impact what you use at different times. you wouldnt have caught one fish that day with a hopper. Although I agree it is the coolest way to fish.
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed it! I'm afraid I don't know anything about the boats, but I'm sure if you contact the guide Angus at www.haulflyfishing.com or find him on social media he would be happy to give you the details. :)
