You went a fair way up river? Did you make it to Emu Flat Creek? When we were kids we hiked / fished all the way to Dubbo Creek Falls. Back then (1980’s) there were monster trout everywhere. I remember when the trout would all line up under Jones’ Bridge on Tumut river. You could look down and literally see dozens of trout. That’s where I hooked my first trout with a mate from primary school.

Merry Christmas. Haven’t fished Barrington area for a few years; found a couple of rainbows early in season. Interestingly, from a book on the Hunter River, it had a piece that the White family (from Belltrees), in early 1900’s, brought trout from VIC by train to release and fish the upper Hunter. I guess the hot summers took their toll.

Hi when do the skwala pants become too warm trout fishing? Is there a time that the orvis ones are more versatile when it’s not super cold out

    • @robertlouis24

@@VTBullitt Yes - I recon that the Skwala pants shine when its really cold - say, 5C to 12C - and the Orvis pants then kick-in as being the more logical choice when it is warmer than 12C…

@@robertlouis24ok thank you! So you are saying you still can fish those heavy pants when it’s above freezing out though? Would you get hot hiking during your week of fishing? Thank you for this review- I literally cannot find another video review of these. Any other info you can provide I would appreciate it.

Black Cormorant spotted: Option 1 pack up and leave. Option 2 abandon coving the "classic holding water", use long leaders, fish shallow pockets and edges, be super super stealthy, and don't expect to catch many. Its a great spot though blue water holes. So glad you got out of Perkins when you did given the weather bomb that hit later that week...suspect you would be coming out now if you stayed.....hmmmm was it the right decision!!? 😂😂

@ there are Podcasts about it. I know the big black cormorants can eat larger trout up to 3lbs. They also decimate stocked dams.

Beautiful river though pity about the size of the fish. Could definitely benefit from taking a few for the table as this helps thin numbers out and allows the remaining trout to grow into more sizeable trout. Many anglers will oppose this view but it is being advocated in Tasmania at the moment as there is an overabundance of small trout in many waterways.

@@franksaunders6534 Frank - yes, agreed, from what I have read - and from what I believe the research supports - is that there is value in taking some fish for the table - thing is, like my father, the older I am, the less I want to kill anything, especially trout…
