I fish Carcoar Dam from a kayak, and never caught a trout! but lots of "big" redfin.
@@martyjones1413 That makes 2 of us that were surprised that I caught a trout…
Staying there this Oz long weekend… been there before with my dog, so fishing wasn’t on the cards then, but this time is 100% fishing lol…
@@-Awareness Enjoy - I am jealous…
Beautiful
@@SRussy4325 It was a beautiful day - not a week goes by without me thinking about that day…
You went a fair way up river? Did you make it to Emu Flat Creek? When we were kids we hiked / fished all the way to Dubbo Creek Falls. Back then (1980’s) there were monster trout everywhere. I remember when the trout would all line up under Jones’ Bridge on Tumut river. You could look down and literally see dozens of trout. That’s where I hooked my first trout with a mate from primary school.
@@wyattoutlaw2370 Wow - you were lucky enough to fish that wonderful river in its prime…
Got to love boss outdoor
Great stuff. How many fish did you get?
@@sarajuliuspro Sarah - Lynton caught a single fish on the Saturday (the day of this video) and we then caught 6 trout between us on the following day…a good return for this season, which has been tough…
Nice Home, Just WOW!
Please try and be less explicit about the locations you fish. Great descriptive content in your videos, you can inspire further research for those willing to explore. These are obviously pretty well known places but heavy influx can put extra pressure on the fishery. Not trying to argue, just offering a perspective. Best wishes
@@jackhamill6445 Jack - acknowledged - that is my plan for 2025 and beyond - you will notice that I did not mention the actual river that I was fishing on any of the 4 days of my recent Barrington Tops adventure…
Thank you. I was recently checking these out at Compleat Angler - still undecided v full waders. Waders are the most frustrating pieces of gear we buy. Top shelf or medium price; all leak.
@@ianatkins1213 You are so right Ian - it is so tough to know which way to go - I do think that the ‘Freestone’ range in long waders or wading pants hits a sweet spot - both are well made and durable - and I do now know that Simms booties can be replaced for A$350 (as I have just paid to have new booties fitted to my Simms G4Z waders)
Where did you get those magnifying glasses that clip onto the cap?
No waterproof pockets to put your phone & keys?
@@philliplawson2932 Phillip - yes, that is the case with these pants - I have had both pockets fill up with water - which is why each pocket has a tiny draining hole at the bottom - definitely nowhere to safely store your phone and/or keys in these wading pants - you will need to find a way to keep your phone (which I typically keep keep in a pocket on my left hand side) and keys (which I typically store in a pocket on my right hand side or in my backpack) safely stored…
@robertlouis24 Yeah I'll stick to my $150.00 Paramount wader pants, Thanks for the info!
@ I am seriously starting to question my desire to buy the best, most expensive, waders - fact is - the booties on the most expensive in the Simms/Orvis/Patagonia waders are identical to the booties on the cheapest - might as well just buy the cheapest in the range, and accept that you will need to buy a new pair every couple of years - for me, it is the booties that have failed every time…
10' rod in such tight quarters and overhanging vegetation?! I would have used a 6'6" or a 7' rod, bamboo even better. However, well done!
Last time I fished that stretch was during the rains of 2022. Nearly killed ourselves clambering over those housed-sized granite boulders. Slippery suckers...
Its not a successful trip without you falling over at least once 😬
A river worth re-visiting.

Gotta love the classic Aussie pub after a long day's fishing - helps make the trip memorable!
@@franksaunders6534 Frank - could not agree more - classic Aussie pub, owned by friendly Aussies, and filled with an eclectic group of locals…
Nice trip mate up into my local streams. It's just been so dry that even seeing a fish is a bonus, so well done. The streams near your bnb practically dried up last summer, so I'd say that there'd be close to no fish left. Higher up on the Tops, not so bad...
Mate nice vid you've got quality content well done! I'll be up there in a few weeks with my gopro 🤞
The hairdryer at that b&b will get some use whist you stay there 😂 Secrets to Grants flies…. You gotta pay attention to colour 😊
Merry Christmas. Haven’t fished Barrington area for a few years; found a couple of rainbows early in season. Interestingly, from a book on the Hunter River, it had a piece that the White family (from Belltrees), in early 1900’s, brought trout from VIC by train to release and fish the upper Hunter. I guess the hot summers took their toll.
Thank you M’lord for some quirky, informative and entertaining episodes. The blend of location and the reality of fly fishing an excellent format. The gadgets/rods/gear interesting. Merry Christmas.
@@erichsinkis8051 Thank you my friend - you really are too kind 🙏
Nice area. I like impoundments in the summer, and generally after 10 pm as the thermocline rises towards the surface…. Bringing with it active fish. Merry Xmas to you and your family.
I reckon if I were a tortoise, everyone would talk to me nicely, call me buddy, etc., etc. Alas . . . . 😂 Pretty skinny water . . . one would easily find one's self skunked in that.
Summer water levels. A lot of the streams round my place are like that too with zero trout left. Keep exploring though.
Admirable effort gentlemen 👏👏👏
Nice one Rob, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year mate! Looking forward to watching more of your videos next year.
Love it! Merry Christmas LG. Fat tiger central!
I was camping at Perkins Flat the other weekend in that massive downpour… had the river come up very quickly. At 2:35 i was fishing that spot and a massive tree came down off that ridge into the water and scared the crap out of me lol… was quite an effort getting out after some washouts. Great spot though…
@@-Awareness Oh - wow - what an experience - you have pretty well confirmed that we were wise to retreat from the valley when we did, before the downpour - thanks for confirming!
Good man Robert, well done on a self guided day.
@@padraigcostello8499 Thank you so much Padraig - yes, I was particularly proud of myself for my self-guided efforts - for some reason, I was (am) a bit intmidated by NZ fishing as I am a novice when it comes to sight fishing - the 9 or so trout then I caught under my own steam and 9 of my proudest trout…
Enjoy your videos. I am wondering about your approach to using Sunline leader (greased?) as the basis of your set up. Is there more information you could direct me to?
Good stuff LG! Will be fascinated by the next instalment on the Fish, how EN performed….OR whether you simply retired to the Tarana pub after the weather hit! Glad you’re giving the micro leader a whirl…it can make a difference to your hookup rate in my limited experience ( but I’m no expert!!) .
@@anthonyclark6118 Spolier alert, Anthony - I get skunked on day 2 with Grant Hilder on the Fish River…
@@robertlouis24 it’s certainly toughened up a lot this season. There are the odd few about, but not really in what we consider prime lies. Have given night fishing a good run the last few months and been a bit more successful but still wouldn’t say it’s exceptional . If you get one in a session it’s ‘par’ whereas 18 months ago I’d be disappointed if it wasn’t 10! Nonetheless it’s good practice….and will set you up exceptionally well for NZ. Black Cormorant spotted: Option 1 pack up and leave. Option 2 abandon coving the "classic holding water", use long leaders, fish shallow pockets and edges, be super super stealthy, and don't expect to catch many. I was there in that weather bomb… was definitely an experience lol… river came very quickly….
Those Cormorants have much to answer for. Shame the iguana didnt take a dry 😉
@@adzoutnabout888 Do you really think that the Cormorants are responsible for the shocking river fishing so far this season? Can it really be so?
@ there are Podcasts about it. I know the big black cormorants can eat larger trout up to 3lbs. They also decimate stocked dams.
You don't need a fishing pack, you need a lunch box.
Beautiful river though pity about the size of the fish. Could definitely benefit from taking a few for the table as this helps thin numbers out and allows the remaining trout to grow into more sizeable trout. Many anglers will oppose this view but it is being advocated in Tasmania at the moment as there is an overabundance of small trout in many waterways.
@@franksaunders6534 Frank - yes, agreed, from what I have read - and from what I believe the research supports - is that there is value in taking some fish for the table - thing is, like my father, the older I am, the less I want to kill anything, especially trout…
