The switch in tempo is in honor of his dad, who played jazz. Jackson has talked about the fun jam sessions his dad and his friends would have when Jackson was a kid. He also said he would be out playing with his friends and his dad would come out front and play the theme from Dragnet on a French horn or sousaphone to call him back home.

That sure sounds like David Lindley's slide work. RIP.
    Love the family stories.

Best singer songwriter this world will ever hear and see writing his first song at 16 years old. Been following him from the early 70s and seen him 4 times in Australia and has got better with age. Love your reactions, you are both genuine people.

Jackson Browne, poet of my spirit. This is one of my most treasured albums. That opening lyric has always spoken to my heart "Well a dirty wind blows thru the sky, the autumn leaves cut loose and fly, leaving me watching, and wishing I could follow" Sigh! I've seen him three times, the last time was the mid 80's. He still sounds great to this day!

Jackson Browne has a way with his lyrics, of peeling back all the emotional layers of defense, and exposing your raw emotions. It still brings tears to my eyes, 40+ years after hearing it the first time. Cheers.

Jackson sings in this song "make room for my 45's (records) along beside your 78's (also records). That's because Jackson's dad was a jazz musician (sometimes playing with folks like Django Reinhardt), as well as a journalist. Jackson remembers nights when local musicians would flock to their house to play jazz and jam all night long. Jackson said it was an uproarious gathering and a great experience for him. Jackson's mother was an English teacher so between a journalist father and English-teaching mother, it's no wonder that Jackson has a flair for writing lyrics. Jackson has been my favorite solo artist since 1972 and I look forward to hearing more Jackson reactions from both of you!

In the history of the Eagles, Glen Frey talks about learning how to write when he was living downstairs from Jackson Browne. Working for hours on a line before he was ready to move on to the next one. His songs always sound to me like they were born whole, in a single piece. Apparently not the case.

Jackson had a fine stretch of albums in the 70s, starting with his debut, Saturate Before Using. That was followed with For Everyman, Late For the Sky, The Pretender, and Running on Empty.
    Those 5 albums are incredible.

I’m in total agreement about his first five albums. He opened up a suppressive part of our hearts while we could feel his emotional nakedness and we shared it together unashamed. It was glorious.

I've never heard this song but in '76 at age 13, I only heard what was played on the radio! "I love you" wasn't always said when we were growing up (10 of us kids) but I knew exactly how much they loved us the moment I had my first child! I can only imagine the pressure they had raising us and meeting the bills was always a struggle and I wonder if all of that worry alone made them a little more hard, but I know they did the best they could! We are all more free with the I love yous as adults and with so many of them no longer here, I'm glad that nothing was left unsaid.

One of my favorite songs by J.B. When we realize that, as young people, we didn't know as much as we thought. I love how the song starts slowly, like growing up, and then the song changes to a celebration of finally understanding. Great reaction. Love what you do! ☮🧡🎶

Another great heart felt reaction. You guys nailed this one.
Always tell your parents you love them, each and every day, tomorrow is never guaranteed. Live in the "today".
Dad's have their special way of loving you, by sharing knowledge and teaching, mothers are loving and nurturing.
    Keep sharing the love.

Great story guys! Love hearing about your backgrounds. Not sure if you understood the reference at the end about "make room for my .45's along beside your .78's".... vinyl records in the 30/40/50's came in a very thick form and played at a speed of 78 RPM's. Singles, or .45's, were in the next generation of music.

I really enjoy your reactions to Jackson Browne's music and this was one I did not expect! I just watched your latest reaction to Linda Ronstadt and I don't know if you are aware of it, but they both used to play at the Troubadour in Hollywood when they were starting their careers and would sometimes take turns opening for each other while touring during the seventies. I guess you could say they belong to the same musical "family" with tight connections to other acts like Eagles and Little Feat, just to name a few. I'm looking forward seeing more reactions from the early Jackson Browne albums. Hoping for something from "For Everyman", one of my absolute favorite albums. Thanks!

I see that you have you have already reacted to Late for the Sky and Fountain of Sorrow, among several others. The thing with Jackson Browne…as Andre said: I have loved his music since the 70’s, had a couple of his albums…..and the songs are so beautiful…,but I always felt melancholy after after listening to an album….so had to,pull back. I saw him live last year, and it was a beautiful night of lovely music. “. I would suggest “ Running on Empty” as your next listen. . One of his biggest hits, along with “Doctor My Eyes”.
