Thank you for emphasizing finding a trusted vet. My dog was diagnosed when it wasn’t a problem or noticeable and the vet jumped straight to talking about surgery. Couple years later now he’s in pain again but a little worse
Hi West Coast Version of me..Glad you and your babies are staying safe☺..I Love Margo..or as me..being a Bostonian says...Maaaago!!.She is sooo good ..deserves a treat..What a little doll she is..💝😇

There's a Vet called Noel Fitzpatrick who is the kindest most loving man on the planet. He is based in the South of England and his specialist field is orthopaedics. Dempsey is very well insured because nobody except Noel would get to put knife to skin on my boy! Margo DID say '' I love you", right at the end but she was talking to me. 💖😊😊😘😘 BIG LOVE to y'all.
Trish Traynor oh wow! Good to know and thanks for letting us know in case anyone is looking for an orthopedic Veteranary. Did Dempsey have to have surgery?
I've never heard of this. I believe my sister's Chihuahua has this, as her knee looks likes it pops out on walks. I see there are neoprene braces for this. I will definitely research this more. Thank you, miss Kelly, for this information and I will pass it along! 🤲
anthony chihuahua oh yes it does sound like your sister’s dog could have luxating patella 😥 hopefully it’s just grade 1 and will be manageable. Definitely a good idea to get her looked at and start on glucosamine chondroitin as soon as possible if so 🙏🏻 wishing her the best. Hugs
Hello Kelly, thank you for the great video. The previous vet said that little "Miso" has level 2 Luxating patella, the reason for this was, that she was malnourished when we got her on 3 months of age "she weighed 0.76g". We moved to a different town, and will be going to a new vet, will get a second opinion then. I have stairs at the bed and sofa, doesn't look like she has pain, running like a maniac every day hehe.
I lost my yorkie this past May and he had a pretty prominent locating patella. I’m not sure what grade, no vet every even mentioned a grading system, however it didn’t seem to bother him much and he was an active 15 yr old when he passed. Hopefully this gives some pet parents hope if their dogs end up with it.
Oh no. I'm so sorry for your loss, it really is awful to lose a family member like that. You must've taken good care of him if he was 15, especially with the luxating patella.
Sweetie Pie Pets Thank you.. And he had EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency) since he was on yrs old. I like to think I did a good job and I guess they all have to go at some point.
@@christinak2840 He has EPI for 14 years, he had his luxating patella for about 14 years as well but we only knew he had kidney failure for the last week of his life. He seemed normal until he wasn’t, he seemed sick for about 3 days then couldn’t walk and we rushed him to the emergency vet on a Saturday night, Brought him to our regular vet on the Monday and then again that Friday when his numbers were 4 times worse than they should be. He wasn’t eating or drinking so we made the heart wrenching decision to let him go. I swear he was just lingering for me to come to terms with it.. Hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with next to losing my mom..
My dog is a a chihuahua mix she is about 13 pounds and has luxating patella on both legs. Dr does say she was about a stage 1 on right leg and shes about a 2-3 on left leg wasn’t to sure on stage because after a second visit her legged seemed good and knee was in place most of the time. She does really good he said he doesn’t think she needs surgery unless she limps often. I haven’t seen her limp yet sometimes she will hop or skip and kick leg back and he said that is normal for her to do.
Yes so normal and I agree with what your doctor says, if she’s able to get by without much pain then she shouldn’t need surgery. Wishing her the very best ❤️
Thank you so much for your videos. I actually have a miniature rat terrier 7lb. But I had no reference for information on small dogs. My vet said my dog has a grade 5 knee problem. I was very surprised by the diagnosis. I think you are right I want to get a second opinion. I also have gotten stairs and a Supplement for her. It’s only been one month but I have learned so much.
Hi Amanda, I’m so sorry to hear about your sweetie pie. Yes I would definitely get a second opinion because 🤔 I mean, is he completely crippled? Grade 5 seems like his legs wouldn’t work at all. Yikes. I wish you and your sweetie pie the best of luck.
Good video! I didn’t know the actual term of this! I was actually looking into buying steps for my sweetie. Bc she does go up & down the bed, couch & it is a little high! Even tho she’s only 3 yrs old 🐾
I like the soft stairs SPP recommends. I have the Pet Gear Easy Step 2 for my 8# chi, but scored a near new one from Goodwill for only $7! Much better than the "pillow stairs" I would make for her.
anthony chihuahua... pet gear? I’ll give them a try. Bc this does worry me. I’ve been watching her knees for a while now. I’m scared that she will have them “pop” out from strain. Thx a lot for ur reply ❤️
Nora matuszewski. You're welcome😌. One of my sister's chi's jumps on and off their big bed and I'm certain that contributed to her dogs luxating patella. Thanks to miss Kelly & SPP, I learned something new!☑️
My baby is only 11 weeks.. and her joints crack. Is this bad. She also stepped wrong on her leg after being stepped on 😔.. I had her looked at. Does she need vitamins or supplements
I have a question please I’m 20 years old I have special needs -autism.epilepsy and learning disability I have a teacup chihuahua that was originally my sisters dog but she didn’t take care of her so I started to at 16 she was 11 I think and our mum has sczohinia a mental health condition I’m currently in a hostel waiting to get a flat I’ll be on benefits to help me live and my dog millie that gets looked after now by my granny just till I get a flat has a problem where her leg bone go out of place she’s coming 5 in April I was told when she was 3 by a vet that she needed surgery to fix her leg because my mum took my pip at that time I couldn’t save up for her but I’ll be in charge of my own money now and have already saved £1000 for her surgery on her back leg I’m wondering if it’ll be too late for her I’m so scared she’ll have to get it amputated or end up with arthritis 😞😞 Thank you for your time
I'm sorry to hear about your sweetie pie possibly needing surgery. It's a very difficult decision, I know. Unfortunately I really couldn't advise you one way or another. I do know, however, that my friend's tiny Chihuahua had to have one front leg amputated and now she's doing fine! She has learned to hop around on just the 3 legs and is loved by her family.
Hello :) I just put a puppy on hold because she’s only 4 week old and I’m gonna get her on June 15th when she’s 8 weeks old. Do you have any recommendations for food for that age and how much/often to feed her?
Kaylee Wisman yay, congratulations on your new sweetie pie. I’m super excited for you. My preferred dog food is Life’s Abundance. I like it because it’s packed full of probiotics and has the right balance of protein, fat & fiber. They have a puppy food for small to medium size breeds and then when your puppy reaches about a year old I recommend to switch to the all stage Life’s Abundance. Regarding feeding schedule, I prefer to free feed meaning your puppy will have a bowl of the hard kibble available at all times (and a bowl of water). A tiny baby can’t go very many hours between feedings to sustain their energy level so they may only eat five or so kibble pieces at a time and then an hour later five more pieces. If you would like to try the Life’s Abundance here’s the link for that www.BuyLifesAbundance.com Also, in case you haven’t seen my “bringing your new puppy home” video, here’s that link: th-cam.com/video/FyqFo1FZc28/w-d-xo.html Hopefully I answered your questions but please let me know if you have more. Congratulations again 🤗🐶❤️
Sweetie Pie Pets Thank you! I have a min pin too actually... so he may eat some of her food so do you have any suggestions on how I should deal with that?
Kaylee Wisman yes, you definitely want to make sure that she has her own “den” crate away from the other dog with her own food and water bowl that he can’t have access to. She should eat inside her den crate and he should never be allowed to eat out of her bowl. That way she won’t feel intimidated and she’ll know she’s safe in her crate and can eat as much as she wants in peace. It will also helps her not feel the need to hoard food since she knows the other dog can’t get it. 👍🏻
Hey from Sweden! I took my sweetie pie to the animal hospital here for a completely different issue (he is ok thank God) but she said he has luxating patella in his back right leg. I had noticed him occasionally 'skipping' on it when we walk but not often. Now that she has poked and prodded it last night he is really 'skipping' on it this morning during his walk. :( He doesnt seem to be in pain though. I say skipping because its the only way i know to describe it and how it looks. Is this something I should urgently take him to the vet for? I think she said he was a grade 3 but it was hard to tell because he was very scared and tense when she examined him. She acted like no big deal and to just keep an eye on it but now after some research a grade 3 seems kinda serious? I love your videos and Margo is soooo gorgeous!
Hello, with many other breeds, a grade 3 luxating patella would likely be reason to rush your dog to the vet. However because Chihuahuas are so small, they can often love their whole lives with luxating patella and not experience much pain. For your guy especially since it’s only on one leg, and he can avoid using that knee by skipping (I know the walk your referring to). So no, as long as he’s not in a lot of pain, you don’t need to rush him into surgery ❤️🙏🏻
I went to the vet and my dog got vaccinated and once we got home she started limping or she doesn’t put weight on it or she won’t put it down and I’m wondering if that can cause it
Hmm, that’s an odd side effect for a vaccination. Sometimes they do have bad reactions to vaccinations, but typically a reaction would present more like an allergy attack. Sometimes they have swelling and if it’s a really bad reaction they can have difficulty breathing. Sometimes they act sick or depressed afterward but I’ve never heard of one developing a limp from a vaccine. Was the injection site in the hip? If so, I suppose that could be a side effect. I give my vaccines at the back of the neck. If they injection site was in the back of the neck then I think it might me more likely the vaccine and the lump are unrelated issues. I would call the veterinarian and see what they say. 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️
Omg thank you for doing this video! Really appreciate it! Need to find out which grade she is from the vet to determine if we’re going through the surgery route. Thanks once again 😀🤗 x

I wouldn’t try popping it back into place. Keep him at a healthy weight and give him a daily joint vitamin and hopefully he will not need surgery 🙏🏻
