    Vets should be recommending this video to owners. The visual comparison, silhouette graphic and explanation of surgery techniques is invaluable. I hope you’ve been able to get this model into the hands of vet colleges. Outstanding work!

    Great video!
    One tip: The portion you pointed out and referred to as the patellar tendon is actually called the patellar ligament. Ligaments connect bones and tendons connect muscles to bones. So the patellar tendon is the portion proximal to the patella that connects it to the quads and the patellar ligament connects the patella to the tibial tuberosity.

    Are there any ligaments holding the patella in place laterally?

    • @ofresh56
      @ofresh56  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not ligaments per se. There are soft tissues on each side that stabilize the patella: parapatellar fibrocartilage, joint capsule and fascia.

    Hello. My dog went through this surgery, but his knee cap/patella keeps luxating. It's been 2 months since the surgery. When he walk slow, it's pretty evident how the patella keeps going out of place and snapping back to place almost in every flexion of the knee, when he jogs, it looks a bit more stable. Apart from that he has hyperlexia, just in case it needs to be considered. Is it possible that after a successful surgery, the problem persists? Or if the patella keeps luxating, it means that the surgery didn't go very well? I know it's a hard question over TH-cam, I just want some guidance, I'm getting desperate for the sake of my dog. Thank you.

    • @ofresh56
      @ofresh56  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry to hear that your dog is still having problems. It's hard to answer your questions without seeing your dog in person. I recommend you continue to follow up with your vet to get to the bottom of it. Good luck.

    Is patellar luxation defined as genetic, traumatic or combined issue for dogs? Secondary how much is this injury more related to dog breeds and their genetic? Thirdly as you mentioned bone misalignment as a reason for the patella luxation, what might be the degrading reason of that, is it nutrition, movement, unnatural diet etc? I could go further, maybe there is a question material for another video, for explaining the nature of this issue.

    • @ofresh56
      @ofresh56  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your question. In most cases this is a problem of genetics that determine bone size and shape.

    My dog was just diagnosed with grade 3 patellar luxation. Is it possible for dogs to make a 100% recovery after surgery? Or will they need to be careful with running/jumping forever?

    • @ofresh56
      @ofresh56  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      With a successful surgery and recovery process, a dog should be able to get back to 100% activity with no long-term restrictions.

    How much to fix this problem I have a Yorkie and the vet is telling me to put him down I just got him on 1 16 22 he is only a 1yr 3 month weight 2lbs 4oz. I got him from a breeder on Puppy Find. She never disclosed or showed in the pictures this problem (so I got scammed ) when she shipped him I did make sure to ask if there was any issued she stated he has no problem. So I took a chance on to find out when he arrived he cant walk on all for only three legs. He is so lovable and he tries so hard to follow me around can you help me fix this problem. I live in Balt. • @ofresh56
      @ofresh56  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your question. It's hard to answer specifically without knowing the details of the case. In general, if a patella is luxating after TTA surgery, this can be resolved with additional surgical corrections.

    My 2-year-old mini poodle has been diagnosed with grade 4 patellar luxation. The vet said there is no guarantee that the problem can be fixed after surgery and that the patella might dislocate again given her severe condition. I'm so shocked to hear this. She looks absolutely normal, with only 15% of the time limping. She keeps chasing birds and squirrels every day! Should I still proceed with the surgery for my girl?
