I think everyone misses the point continually when they try to criticize Oliver Stone’s films-not for their thematic quality which is almost universally agreed upon as great-but in the factual basis of his work. I look at “JFK” as a work of art-which is what cinema at its best can aspire to be-and as a movie that challenges and philosophizes history, powerful American institutions and our own ability as individuals to grapple with tragedy and change.
Don’t get bogged down in the “facts” or “fictions” of Vietnam or Kennedy’s assassination or Richard Boyle’s experiences in Salvador...these movies are great because Stone is not a historian. He’s a filmmaker. He’s using real life characters as pivot points to project ideas and analysis of our foreign policy, our American imperialism, our actual reality beyond what the media and academia and politicians told us the “truth” was in the past and present. Stone himself may not be the most reliable witness in interviews or speeches but he is consistent in his opposition to imperialism, to corporatized takeovers of Wall Street, the press, the legal system, the political system & our own willingness-speaking as an American in America-to accept the Disneyfied version of who we are as a country.
Other races and cultures living here know from first hand experiences this was never the case, never the reality. Now White Americans have learned this over the last two decades and especially after 2020 and we have an opportunity through the George Floyd protests, through the economic reshuffling of COVID and horrors of our healthcare system and government that was not prepared for a pandemic AND lastly our treatment of this planet which can not sustain itself with the kind of capitalism that we practice.
Thank you Oliver Stone for first opening my eyes with “Platoon”, then “JFK” and later “Born on the Fourth of July”, “Wall Street”, “Salvador”, “Savages”, “W”, “the untold history of the U.S.” & “Snowden”. These films provoked so much examination and thought into the system I lived and still live in and helped shape me as a man now.

Well done Mr. Stone. Yes, it is good to walk and mingle with the common man and to eat the food that he eats and if he has no food then we too should abstain from food and then we can see that we are all human beings on this little blue earth. Then we can be human and become humane towards our collective brothers and sisters. Why be a reptile? Why be a snake in the grass? Become a humane human and then you will see that life is good. God Bless you Mr. Oliver Stone.

The guy in the back far right in the second row keeps yawning, and it is another example of how a man can be so insensitive to such powerful message as Oliver stone is delivering. Guess the guy doesn't register the message. Really is pathetic to look at the guy.

Anyone who thinks that Stone is discredited because of his movie JFK is poorly informed. Read JFK and the Unspeakable: Why He Died and Why It Matters by James Douglass. Stone is only wrong in details due to later results of continuous research.

Oliver's movie is a dramatization. It's not billed as a documentary.

@@lolodee3528 Yes. It is a dramatization, and a really good one, two.

Just watched the NOVA episode which analyzed the JFK shooting....Ollie's JFK is now officially one of the biggest "Jokes" ever produced by Hollywoodland....

The NOVA special is pure crap. Read JFK and the Unspeakable by James Douglass.

+Jeff Schlarb Global warming? yes it's a scientific fact. This episode of NOVA is part of 50 years of coverup.
