    I raised 4 adult wild caught emeralds and bred them in the 90’s and had no problems. Certainly they didn’t die… I understand the cautionary tale but just saying. I had no problem, but I may be the exception because I did the research and the work and understood reptiles…

    Love your intros 🤣 and some of the best content on TH-cam. Love your material and knowledge. One tiny tip as I really want your channel to go big, get a body mic or use an AirPod in your ear while you record. Will give you really professional audio and up the production value greatly 👍🏻 again love your stuff already I just really think you deserve to go big!

    Theres a new substrate in the works. Its basically unexpanded peat or coco jiffy pellets.small dry pressed disks of peat or coco and when they get wet they draw in the liquid and expand and hold the liquid in the puck. Iv never tried them myself yet but i saw a guy testing them out for the company making them.They look like they will work good but i dont think theyr visually appealing as its just a bunch of small brown disc shaped pucks but theres no way any could accidentally get in an animals mouth and i suppose they dont look any worse than newspaper. If or when they do come out i will be giving em a try just to see how they go.

    One question. Why would you want an img albino? Is the goal of img to get darker not lighter?

    • @slav1232
      @slav1232 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      IMG Albinos get more yellow and their red pops more. The biggest feature is their white scales turn pure bright white, especially by their tail. So some colors intensify and the white turn even whiter. Not many good quality IMG Albinos out there to see that.

    NERD prices make you but wild caught 🙄

    • @gsreptiles5606
      @gsreptiles5606  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I fully understand JDub, and I wish these animals were less expensive. However if forced to choose, I'd probably opt to spend more money, and theoretically increase my chances of success. Again though, you are not wrong! (Not just NERD however, these animal are pricey regardless of the seller.)

    Where would you recommend purchasing a captive bred northern emerald tree boa?

  • @matthewcoffey2672
    @matthewcoffey2672 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Oh yeah emrald tree boas at shows btw your prices are crazy for fl try $299 at a FL show. but either way Emerald tree boas that are all on the floors of their show enclosures even though they have perching branches should be everyone's first hint but.....they still buy them. not to mention despite what anybody thinks emeralds in fl have all been through minimum of two separate suppliers (almost every time) before you have option to buy. Neither of which have parasite protocols before they sell them. and thats best case (not all not all but most of the time) only if you are buying from FL seller if your buying wc emeralds from a source outside outside of FL who knows how many flippers have had their hands on it.

      @@gsreptiles5606 And thank you for making a video warning people about actual condition of these imported adults. while i still go to shows I haven't bought anything from an expo in at least 10 years. Unless its a a breeder himself most of the animals being shown on a weekend were purchased a few days prior and seller has no idea as to the health or history of the animal. Sad truth at least in FL

    I have to say I agree with you about substrates. I've been using newspaper for all my snakes for about 15 years now and I find it's so much better for the snakes and so easy to keep everything clean and sanitary. Just pick up the paper and spray the tubs down with Chlorhexidine. It's too bad it' seems to be all the rage to bash people for using newspaper and tubs (racks).

    So Gary I notice you are using substrate in the maculosa tub? Is there a reason for that?

    • @gsreptiles5606
      @gsreptiles5606  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Darren, so far I've been problem free with my smaller animals (Maculosa, Sand Boas, and Savus). With the sand boas they like to hide in it. With the maculosa, it helps with absorbency (as they tend to defecate frequently), and with my Savus (Coconut chips), it helps tremendously with humidity. I'm not a fan, but at least with these smaller species it's a better option. Thanks for watching!
