  • As a Canadian living in the UK, I HAD to try Tim Hortons in the UK! So does British Tim Hortons compare to the Canadian version??
For many Canadians, Tim Hortons is a nostalgic cafe - I know it was a big part of my childhood and it was such a treat to get some Tim Bits or an IceCapp! I miss it a lot while living abroad.. so how does the UK Tim Hortons compare..?

Hey! I'm Alanna - a twenty-something documenting my life as a Canadian living in England.
I share the ups and downs of an expat living abroad and what it's really like living in the UK. It's not always easy, but there's been so many wonderful experiences, too. I post a TH-cam video every Tuesday plus an additional video every Saturday on my Patreon account. I also livestream every Wednesday and Sunday at 5:30pm GMT/BST on Twitch.

Brit living in Canada here. Pleased to see your honesty, all the foreigners here I know think it's bizarre that Canadians love it, though we understand it's mostly a nostalgic pursuit at this point.

If you are in the UK, you should bear in mind that Tim Hortons don’t make anything on the premises. Everything arrives at the store frozen and is heated up to make it appear freshly baked. Along with cheese, one of the things I miss most about the UK are the bakers shop. Tim Hortons might have greater variety of toppings, but their donuts will never come close to something a local bakery has just made fresh. Independent bakers are common here, but. Plenty of people will drive past twenty Tim Hortons to get to a place where the donuts are made on the premises.

That's essentially the same way it is in Canada too ever since Tim Horton's was bought out by an American company RBI. Tim Horton's in Canada has gone really downhill. Good news and bad news. Bad news is they are not that good anymore. Good news is we got a whole lot of them. They are convenient. That's it.

Real bakers are disappearing and Greggs the warmer upper is taking their place. I won't call Greggs a baker because you can't buy bread there. The sausage rolls are crap and their choice is so limited.

Thank you for the heads-up about there being a Tim Horton's in Kent. I live near Folkestone, but I took my wife on a surprise trip to the Gravesend branch today. We haven't been to Canada for quite a few years, but she said it was a reminder of our first foreign holiday together. We both tried chicken burgers with lattice fries, and our experience with that seemed a bit better than yours. We visited at lunchtime though, so probably our food was freshly cooked.
I gather that a branch is going to open in Margate, which will be a bit closer for us.

There used go be Tim Hortons restaurants in New York City but only briefly. I believe they were closed in 2015. And that's a good thing for me because I won't be walking miles and miles to get a) those gorgeous donut holes, an amazing array of flavors and you seem to like them, (b) that maple and cream filled donut (I don't know of anyone around here that sells maple donuts, but if it's as good as it looks, I'd be addicted to them immediately), and (c) the Ice Cap that looks like a chocolate shake. Thanks for a fun episode! I'll be seeing those yummy items in my dreams!

Chicken stack with bacon burger; waffle fries with chipotle dip and a latte. Is very nice but a tad expensive these days. :)

They've got one opening up in my town so I'll probably give their things a try (the non hot foods...)

You could also try the Canadian pub in London's Covent Garden, I think it's called the Maple Leaf. Try asking them for a free lunch in return for YT publicity.

That's a lotta strange options they have there. And you can go to Lidl right next door for the big shop afterward.

Great video, appears Hortons is best for coffee and donuts not savoury food. Hope you had good memories

At 10:42 “let’s do one more, eh?” whilst sat in a Tim Horton’s. Couldn’t be any more Canadian 🤣

yah, great to know that I can get timmys next time Im in the UK, i live in Ontario. i do recall entering with much hope, a tim hortons on Regent Street, near Piccadilly Circus when I was there in 2011. to my utter disappointment, they just had coffee, no fancy donuts, no ice capp, sigh, just coffee which I do not drink. here in canada the only hot food i ever get is their breakfast sandwich, other than that, it's just ice capps and either a boston cream donut or an apple fritter.

They’ve just opened one of these in Margate, we’re not really a bagels country unfortunately, glad you enjoyed it though 👍
After watching this I think I’ll give it a miss though lol

Tim Horton's in Ayr do bagels but only at breakfast time.
