Greggs is nice and reliable. If you find yourself in a strange town you know what you're getting when you go to Greggs and honestly it's going to be more than half decent, even if not as exciting as you might get from a local baker. I'd go to a local bakery first but I'm not going to turn my nose up at Greggs. The vegetarian sausage rolls are also well worth trying even if you are a carnivore (as I am).

As a formerly puzzled American l’m so glad to finally find out what a Greggs is. I’ve seen them loads of times on Google Street View and for some reason it never crossed my mind that it could be food. I thought it could be a stationery shop, convenience store, book shop…baked goods never crossed my mind. I checked their website and I wouldn’t mind trying a few things there if I ever visit the UK again.

I don't hate Greggs, but I regret that a year or so after they moved into my small town, two excellent family-run bakeries went out of business. Their pies, pasties and sausage rolls were much better than Greggs and, despite being smaller companies, they had a wider range of cakes, pastries and bread. Greggs was slightly cheaper, but not dramatically, so I guess it was the Greggs brand-name that drew the customers, especially the younger generation, and the smaller shops couldn't compete in the end. Such a shame!

I have never been into a Greggs until recently because I hate flaky pastry. Although it is very nice for sweet pastries with cream in them, it's just dire for a savoury item. My brother drove me to a hospital appointment 60 miles away and pulled into a Greggs for a snack on the way. I went in just for a pee. I recently learned that the toilets are always to the right in Greggs and that was true. To get there I had to fight my way through a very long queue inside. Tim Martin may be controversial, but he is the typical English eccentric, which is a unique feature of this country. He is not afraid to say what he thinks even if it loses him trade. I too am a Brexiteer, but even I thought his contribution to the debate was over the top, and yes, eccentric.

Just in case you didn’t know. Iceland sell Greggs products. 8 Greggs Sausage rolls for a fiver. They were £3.75 about a year ago but Iceland decided to take advantage of the cost of living crisis and increase the price by over 30% admittedly, they did it in increments but even so. Anyway, if you do fancy a sausage roll every now and then. It saves having to go to Greggs every time. By the way. They take 25 minutes at gas mark 5/6. Do not follow the cooking instructions on the box unless you want them burned.

Yeah it's usually the breakfast deal for me too, a cappuccino and bacon & sausage bap with brown sauce to start the day.

Greg's is fairly modern like the last 20 years before we had smaller bakeries doing the same thing.

I love the consistency of Gregs no matter where you are you know what you’ll get, but there’s just something wrong about coffee in a can

I tried one... It tasted like coffee 'flavoured' milk ! 'The votes are in, have been counted and verified...' I'm sticking with the Greggs 'proper' (hot) coffee...

A new series that nobody asked for, perhaps - but we're glad to have it from you all the same!
Greggs isn't one that I patronise, so I watch your review without any bias for or against their products. Since they're a chain rather than an independent catering outlet, I wouldn't favour them over the latter - you and I are cut from the same cloth on that one, Alanna, no doubt about it! However, based upon this, I would consider trying them in a real pinch.
What next for this series? I look forward to finding out!

Sausage rolls are good if they're hot. The tandoori chicken baguette is also good.

For some reason I always go there when I'm with my sis in Scotland. She loves the breakfast type items. When you're really peckish there's nothing like a steak bake n coffee.

Trying to work out where Greggs was in Rainham, then I saw the Tesco store sign. Got it. So that's where it is. Wetherspoon is easier to find.

Having been out of the UK for years, and with the wonderful bakery that once existed in a particular town, I took my daughters to a Greg’s - we all wanted a pasty. We each had a different pasty. We all took one bite and threw the rest in the bin. It was bloody awful.

Greggs are obviously doing something right, as their ever-expanding empire shows, but they don't offer anything that wouldn't be tastier from your local bakery. It's really a triumph of marketing profile and careful choice of location.

I used to love it while they were still running Baker's oven, which was basically Greggs but the food was served hotter and kept warm, for a bit of extra cost to the customer. Now i don't like it unless it's only a few mins out of the oven. Chicken bake over steak for me.

Love Greggs its a nice quick lunch and from a business model its really good. Everything is baked fresh each day and what ever is left over at end of day is supposedly donated to charities like homeless shelters. Not that there's much left over at the end of the day I find if I go at end of the day a lot of options are already sold out.
