    What a great series! All the videos really brought back the feelings associated with exploring Japan. Love the dichotomy you highlighted between the busy cities and the profound emptiness of the train stations and nature areas. Thanks a lot for putting this all together. I LIVE for content like this! :)

    One thing I've realized when travelling in more rural parts of Japan is that just the relative difficulty of getting around due to trains and buses being much less frequent with much more limited good ways to connect between them "compresses" the time that you have, compared to being at a place where you can get around much more easily. Like if you're in a city and its 4 o'clock it feels like there's plenty of time left in the day but when you're out in a rural area your most reasonable transport option back to where you're sleeping, factoring all the transiting you need to do - probably leaves at 4:30.
    That probably contributes a lot to the feeling of not having enough time.

    Rob, much thanks for this series of videos. Always nice to see old friends like Darrell and Michael (and family) too. I will miss not waking up to another Japan video. Oh well....back to breakfast, garbage throwing, laundry, making sauerkraut, and hopping into shoes and clothes. But frankly I also like those video blogs just fine!
    On to Hawaii.....

    Loving your videos! I spent 6 months travelling around India in 2016, it was a challenge but it was amazing. Very affordable, the people are super friendly and their second national language is English, so not too much of a barrier there.

    Well ended up watching this series then going back to watch your first two Japan vlogs (with long hair lol, which took me a minute to get use to as I'm use to the short with the later videos). I also watched the China vlogs as well. Good job on them all. My trip will be in Japan for sure. I may still reach out with some questions later. For the adventure archive channel I do recommend the Roan highlands section of the AT as well as more if you all are interested.

    I've been to this buddha 3 times and it's an amazing thing to see....unless.....you experience an earthquake just before you are about to buy a ticket to go up in the lift which happened to me in my last visit in 2012, one year after the big one in March 2011 only this earthquake was only a 3.5 magnitude. We asked the people who work in the souvenir section 85 meters up inside the buddha what it was like when the swaying started. The ladies said they had to drop to the floor because they could not stand up. It made me wonder what was it like when the big earthquake hit (around an 8 magnitude in the Ibaraki Prefecture), probably the most frightening experience you could ever have.

    "I have to be moving and seeing new things constantly" when travelling. YES!! That's exactly how I feel and it exhausts my wife. haha It's like "hey, we can relax at home...but I didn't come all this way to sit in a hotel room and watch tv!" LOL

  • @coaroas9243
    @coaroas9243 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm curious how much you spent on the trip (Minus the toys and video games). Seems like you could get video and camera gear there cheap. Is that the case?

    • @RobbyHuang
      @RobbyHuang  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Video and camera gear isn't any cheaper unfortunately. I spent 750 ish on the plane ticket, 350-400 on the rail pass can't remember, and then maybe another 500 on food and hostels.

    • @coaroas9243
      @coaroas9243 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobbyHuang , Wow! I would not have thought the rail pass was so expensive. Food and lodging seemed right. Bummer on camera gear. I would have thought since Japan is the home to Cannon, Nikon, Sony and Fugi, it would be cheaper.
      Good video series. Glad the virus wasn't a thing when you were there!

    • @RobbyHuang
      @RobbyHuang  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just checked randomly. It was 436 dollars. It’s actually an unbelievable deal really, because if I had bought tickets at the regular prices I would have spent wel over 2000, maybe even 3000 dollars

    What do you do to keep your Japanese language proficiency?
    In March a friend of mine will go to Japan on a one year work and travel visa. It will be interesting to follow his journey.

    • @RobbyHuang
      @RobbyHuang  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nothing in particular, but I do watch Japanese shows fairly regularly, and that probably keeps it honed. This trip in particular, something clicked and it suddenly didn't feel like a mystery anymore and I didn't have to say "What?" every time anyone said anything.

    Go to VIETNAM next time man! Many people speak English there but you should also try to figure out an arrangement with someone / some people who can help you a little bit! The food is incredible, there are bigger Buddha statues than the ones in Japan, the people are very friendly, everything there is super cheap, you would love it!

    Hi Robby, enjoyed your Japan videos, did most of the same thing you did when we were armed with the almighty Rail Pass, hahaha! You should visit the Philippines, we all speak some form of English and going around using public transport (jeepneys, tricycles, buses, etc.) not our trains or taxis, is one challenge that foreigners are not used to. You can get lost in our cities, provinces, mountains, islands, and especially our beaches. Hit me up if you need more details :)
