    My daughter loves soccer. She has played 3 seasons. This year the 8 yr olds didnt have a volunteer. So it was going to be canceled. My wife asked me and i was like no way, i have no idea how to coach, but then i saw the look on my daughter's face. So i said, you know what, ill do it. I'll learn how to,and her face lit up. Kids needs this. You're the first video i saw. I hope i do a good job. I played a little as a teen... but a coach... I'm terrified.

    This video is so helpful. I am my 7 year old’s soccer coach, and I have never coached soccer before in my life. I was the only parent to show up for the meetings but immediately reached out to all the parents when I got home from the meeting. I am so excited to do this! When I found out his team didn’t have a coach I wanted to volunteer to be the coach because it just seems like a way to have some fun with my oldest and teach him a few things.

    • @coachdad4482
      @coachdad4482  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a process, I would start with some play first, mainly to see how the boys see the game. Emphasize the basics like spreading out and sharing the ball, try to organize them in shapes to challenge them.
      Just get a general feel that way you can determine the best route of how they should play!

  • @chassymarie3
    @chassymarie3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey Coach! Like you said, I got suckered into coaching because my kids play. Andv yeah, it sounds loads of fun! But I am like a deer in headlights. Any tips?

    • @coachdad4482
      @coachdad4482  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on the age, if it’s like u4- u8 I would just focus on individual exercises so they get better with the ball.
      If it’s like u10 still some of the same, but you start getting into positions and understanding the game itself.
      Above that there’s a lot that goes into positions and roles on the field. So there might be a more drastic learning curve!
      What age?

    I started coaching with my my sister on a 4 year old team. Her daughter,( my niece) is on there as well. I'm 33 and my sister is 30. We have 5 boys and 4 girls. We've had one practice so far and I've never coached, I've just played and so has my sister. We have a blast and try to get them to do some drills and they're pretty good with it. Any tips on telling them not to use their hands and can only use your feet???

    • @coachdad4482

      When they’re 4 it’s always about creativity! I love telling them, “if you touch the with your hands it’s loses its magic power! If you touch it with your feet it gets more Magic power” that’s what I have always used and for what ever reason it works!

    Hi Coach Dad! My 8 year old son has never played a sport but is interested in soccer. I know absolutely nothing about sports. I signed him up to play soccer later this month and the association doesn’t have a coach for his team! The only team without a coach and it’s his lol. Anyways we just moved to this state and I don’t work yet and I feel like I’m the only parent that has the time to be a coach. They’ve been searching and no one is volunteering and I really don’t want to disappoint my son so I was thinking of volunteering. Do u think I can do it with absolutely no experience or knowledge? The association says they will provide resources to help whoever feel comfortable. I’m just really nervous and doubting myself. I’m an out of shape mom with no experience lol. Your video was so helpful and really makes me want to help these kids. Just looking for advice... thank you!

    • @coachdad4482
      @coachdad4482  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      U10 soccer is still pretty basic! If you sign on to manage your team I would ask the parents if potentially anyone wants to assistant!
      I wouldn’t be too worried, you would be shocked at how many coaches start out just like you may be!
      I would definitely start with the us soccer courses to get going! Lots of good info there!

    Is there anyway to make money coaching youth sports? Is this like when you know you were not qualified to coach at the professional level so your only option is to coach kids for free and still work another job to make ends meet?
    I feel alot of coach dads take this too seriously when they aren't even getting paid for any results. Like maybe it's a free pass for them to yell at kids and make them feel bad if they suck at soccer. Because they couldn't afford a Porsche or Ferrari.

      You could coach club soccer, most clubs do pay their coaches. I am fortunate enough to coach club and make some part time money. Recreational coaches are typically volunteers. That’s what this channel is being geared towards with the new content we’re putting together. Hopefully the coach dads and moms realize this sport should be fun regardless of the level!

      Honestly, u8 and under is pretty straight forward! It’s more about showing them how to dribble, strike and pass a ball. I would search for drills for u8 and under!
