    No one warned me this could happen postpartum. I was in hospital 5 days. I went home and that night was readmitted. My blood pressure was 208/118 at ER. That headache...morphine nothing touched it. They gave me benadryl to make me pass out and I couldnt see the tv above my bed because of my eyesight. My reflexes were super jumpy. I also couldnt hold my baby without someone in the room as they were worried about seizures. It was so scary and I had to take BP meds for a few months. I'm grateful I am fine and no long term damage. My BP is normal now. Thank you for making this video. So scary and idk why doctors don't mention this can happen postpartum!!! I had no idea til it happened!!!

      @@kdeepika1970 I was readmitted for 5 or 6 days I dont remember. They first in ER gave me meds to bring down blood pressure and started magnesium drip with a big bolster. I think I got IV mag for at least 3 or 4 days. They scanned my heart and some other things. Then put a catheter in cuz they had to measure urine as my kidneys were being damaged. They tested my blood and reflexes hourly for first few days. Gave me pain meds. Once they could control my blood pressure with just BP meds they watched me another day and then released me with blood pressure meds . I took those for like 3 months and then one day passed out. Went to dr and they found my blood pressure had finally after months returned to normal without the meds. So I was very lucky.

      They dont talk about it! My sister experienced it 10 days after birth and like you she spent a week in hospital. And to make matters worse she was reacting to the magnesium stuff.. Such a scary time.
      Im glad that you are fine now.

      @@maxineramsy1425 thanks. The magnesium is nasty stuff and dangerous. That's why they keep iv in and test ur blood every few hrs. If u dont get enough it won't stop seizures but too much can stop ur heart. They have to keep u in the sweet spot. It's pretty scary and makes u feel just awful. I couldnt see straight, walk, talk, sleep, nothing. What was ur sisters reaction? So glad she is okay, too.

    It took me about 6 months to feel "normal" again, but I was on bp meds for five years after the birth of my last child. There is hope after post partum pre-eclampsia! BTW: During my C-section, bp spiked at 245/140! I am lucky to be here today!

    I was at the doctors office 6 days postpartum and my bp was 155/101. I had never before has high bp. My OB wasn’t concern stating that if it was in fact postpartum preeclampsia it would have occurred in the first 48 hours after delivery. Now doing all my research I realized this condition can happen within 6 weeks of having a baby and some women experience it up to 12 months of having their babies. So yeah he’s is I’ll-informed or a complete liar. I don’t trust my OB anymore. The day after seeing him I developed a constant pounding headache that affected my eyesight and I knew I had to go into the ER to be sure it wasn’t serious. I was put on labetalol 100mg 2x daily with a bp of 158/102. They also have a migraine cocktail of reglan, Benadryl, and torodol iv. Labetalol however seems to be short acting in my case and I usually have to take 3 a day to keep my bp down at nights. I do have a constant pounding headache still though which usually gets better after I take my bp med.

A few days after giving birth my migraines started they made noise and light very unbearable. I had my veins in my arms and wrist bulging I had to go to the ER.

      If you are taking labetelol it's useless or amlodipine both won't work now. You must go and see a good physician and take some ace inhibitor medicines. Also get your proteinuria checked.

      First, I am so so sorry for your loss.
      Secondly, was she diagnosed with HELLP or pre-eclampsia? If she was diagnosed with HELLP, she may have had low platelets, which could lead to potential internal hemorrhage. If she had high blood pressure, she could have had a hemorrhagic stroke that went undetected. Was she on a magnesium drip? There are a lot of factors. What was her condition before delivering?

    Is there anything in particular that puts a woman at risk for preeclampsia/eclampsia?

    • @bellalunaoxox
      @bellalunaoxox 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You’d think so but I am a workout junkie, 5’2”, 110 lbs, incredibly fit, no illness of any kind, super healthy, very low blood pressure and I had preeclampsia! Everyone I knew was stunned.
      I guess it can happen to anyone.

    • @PreeclampsiaFoundation
      @PreeclampsiaFoundation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There are known risk factors - including having had a previous history or family history of preeclampsia (on your or your husband's family), it being your first-time pregnancy, having multiple gestation (i.e., pregnant with more than one baby), a history of chronic high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease or organ transplant, being overweight or obese, certain autoimmune or infertility conditions (example lupus, PCOS, rheumatoid arthritis), and being of African descent. That being said, a woman can have absolutely NO risk factors and still develop it. You can read more on our FAQ page: www.preeclampsia.org/faqs
