WEN Keyless Chuck on WEN 15 inch

  • I install the WEN keyless chuck on my WEN 15 inch variable speed drill press. This drill press utilizes the MT2 (Morse Taper #2). I installed the keyless chuck thinking the overall arbor length was nearly the same as the keyed chuck arbor, but the taper began 1/4 inch higher, combined with a lack of a tang, now the arbor removal wedge was useless. I fix this in another video.

    Thanks. I have a wen press that's a different model but the procedure to replace the chuck is the same. I just got a keyless chuck and needed to know how to replace it. this video is perfect, thank you! Like you, I don't need it absolutely perfect for my use cases. not sending a man to space. just doing stuff around the house. thanks again.

    I have the 10-inch version of this drill press. I've had it for around 10 years. It works the same as it did when I first bought it, other than two of the three holes for the chuck being temperamental from use. I have a feeling your video will help me replace that chuck. Thanks so much!

      Did you get a different square I bought the same chuck I had to put a 3/8 bolt in the top of the arbor just to get it out I had to taper the bolt with my bench grinder, do you have any tips??

    You mentioned and I also noticed the lack of a tang on the WEN taper. Because of the lack of a tang, will the WEN taper be able to be knocked out with the extraction tool once installed?

    • @pmtips4482
      @pmtips4482  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, you need to screw in a bolt or stud after matching the thread pitch, and loctite it.
      Mine had to be about an inch high, but this will depend on your specific arbor.

    What is "drill rod" used for? I didn't know it existed until this youtube.

      Drill rod will come in just about any size and it is super straight, machined to tight tolerance.

    Wen doesnt ship to Poland. Any equivalent or better chucks for B16 taper that are availabke globally and don't cost $100?

    • @pmtips4482
      @pmtips4482  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One would think you could locate a suitable chuck in Europe.
      I'm not familiar with them across the pond.
      Thanks!

      @@pmtips4482 As I see it they all demonstrate spindle play of almost a milimeter at the end of the chuck. Thus paying more than $40 for a chuck isn't worth it, worrying about concentricity might not be worth it either. The wobble happens between the casting and the telescopic spindle as well as at the quill at the top.

    • @pmtips4482
      @pmtips4482  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Tome4kkkk Right, and on my drilling I was okay with a few ten thousandths off. Any more tighter tolerance and one may have to look into a milling machine.

    • @Tome4kkkk
      @Tome4kkkk 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@pmtips4482 Exactly. My plan is to add some tightening screws by threading directly into the casting. I'm certain I can eliminate at least half of the play this way. Even now it's OK and better than a drill stand. Especially noise-wise!
