  • After a serious amount of delays, I finally have the Errant in-hand, but it does not live up to the hype, for me.

    I absolutely love this bag! I use it for college...laptop, chargers, notebooks, calculator. It works perfect for me. there is a pocket for everything I need without everything falling to the bottom. I will absolutely use this as a Carry on for a flight. Very durable and well made.

    It's a great story that illustrates the point that you can't have everything at the same time. I have an Errant myself without any extras and it manages to hold everything I need going on a day trip to town (or to bike home with some groceries). Apparently you just need a bigger bag. :)

    Great review! I had this same bag and I sold it almost immediately for the reasons you highlight. I actually loved the bag but the main compartment needed to be much bigger. If I put my shoes in it and a laptop, it was full. I could fit a little more but it would be hard to access anything.
    Boundary- make a bigger bag that isn't photographer focused, where you can fill in all the pockets and still have room.

      @ Paul Riggs.This has nothing to do with the errant but I noticed you said you sold yours immediately, I'm trying to sell an Arcido Akra/Vaga bundle (while GREAT) that didn't quite work for me and I was wondering if you had any tips or go to places you've found to sell? Mine are currently listed on the free spots (letgo and craigslist lol) Thank you in advance!

    Very well balanced review. I love it! I have an alternative view though: it's not that there isn't any volume, however it's that Boundary has dictated how you use the bag by its pockets. If you want a big-bucket style bag, don't use the pockets in- or outside the bag. Thank you for the review it really puts things in perspective for me

    • @HumorousMaximus
      @HumorousMaximus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s fair. But having a few bags that properly place pockets make this kind of thing stand out even more for me now. I’ve seen it done right, and it makes the experience so much better when you don’t have to fight with the bag to get your stuff out. I think this design is a step back from their Prima backpack.

      @@HumorousMaximus and this is why I rely on your reviews - because you've seen many bags that are better in this regard, to alert me of this issue in ways I've never thought of. Again, thank you for the sharp review!

    • @v4714v
      @v4714v 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @UCrXVN0_GkX2emf8qlEOzcvw well, dullness has nothing to do with sharpness, which was my comment, because dullness refers to entertainment value while sharpness refers to critical thought. Negative has nothing to do with sharpness - you can disagree with what he says and still think a review is well thought out. Incorrect again refers not to the amount of thought he put in the review, but rather whether you agree or not. Lastly, it is abundantly clear by the end of the video what he is packing in his bag: keyboard, laptop, jacket etc. So, respectfully, you and I disagree on how good the bag is (I think the bag, after now just received it), but you didn't really criticize the review - you simply disagreed, which has nothing to do with sharpness. In any case, I just got my pack, and I love it even though I agree with his criticism i.e. Not enough pocket space for pockets to expand

    The biggest problem I have with this bag is that the laptop compartment impedes the main part of the bag. If you get the inserts, you can fit an iPad maybe, but even that feels like it’s getting crushed.

  • @ILGenius
    @ILGenius 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    It seems like you just want a magic bag that has the pockets AND unlimited space inside... i have the bag and instead if having a bag without any organization, you have more than enough pockets to organize everything you could possibly carry in an edc bag, and still have a small space for random things like a long sleeve shirt to put at the bottom. Glass half empty type of guy right here!

    Nice review, more balanced compared to the ones where everything is OK! I agree that the design looks misleading. But for users which do not need a huge keyboard and a bully pc charger and a slimmer pc ( mac book users for example ) will face less issues. And of course this depends of load out, I saw that there are many editors and gamers packing on TH-cam an immense amount of stuff in the bag ( including a smaller keyboard than the one you have ), so it really depends on it.

    Great review! I received my Black X-pac Errant last week and I agree with pretty much everything you said. Also it appears your straps are slightly misaligned with the body of the bag. Looks like they are off-centered to the left. My reference point is how centered the straps are with the two lash points on the top flap 2:13
    Also, this is not a good bag for school if you need to fit standard 3-ring binders. They mentioned it will fit 3-ring binders, but in my experience It's way too tight to slide through the top flap. Binders also get caught up on the elastic interior pockets which is a pain.

    I love the bag. I pack it out differently but I fit a lot in it. I actually picked them up as a sponsor because I was so impressed. And some 17” laptops do fit. I wear size 9 shoes and they fit in the bottom with a 15 inch computer, a packing cube with 2 days clothes, all my cords and dongles, a flashlight, pens, 3 battery packs a 2 Apple laptop chargers, and both of the Port Kitt bags. I do have the aux pack where I keep a couple thing but all of it fits in the bag. It’s a fantastic daily carry and the modular components will allow you to carry quite a bit more. The Aux pouch really gives you a lot more outside acccess and expansibility. I carry the Aux inside the bag for daily carry.

    Great review all points I noticed. I got this tried using it for school or just trips. The inside pockets are made from a material that catches anything that has any corners. Meaning you have to open that back clam shell to get stuff back. Space shrinks.
    Super uncomfortable, heavy, messed my back up.
    All this to say looks great from an outside perspective but functions like a ford pinto in use.

    Good to see someone posting an honest and personal review rather than the usual pump-priming happy talk. I've had my Errant for a week now and I'm very happy with mine. I can see the concerns about limited space but I guess it's what you need it for. I've packed a 13" laptop, a 12" ipad, two spectacle cases, headphones, pens, note taking pad and a small water bottle in mine, and still had room to fill the wet/dry compartment with the insulated esky container. With all that in it it was pretty full but not bursting and everything felt accessible. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't have a proper home for the note pad which just rattled around the main internal space. Accessing some of the pockets feels a bit more fiddly than perhaps it looked in the kickstarter clips, and I think I will end up playing around with mine to find the best way to use its spaces.
    I can also fit my size 11 shoes in the wet/dry compartment but only the lightest thin-sole shoes and only just. I would think you would need size 10 shoes or smaller to be confident that they would fit.
    As noted the build quality is excellent and the pack looks very nice and sleek. So far it's been great for me, but I think the takeway is that this pack has size limitations. I wouldn't be surprised if one day I try to fit something into it and I find it just doesn't go. Or perhaps I will be faced with the choice of having to decide which one of two things I can fit in. If this happens too often I will probably buy that small pack that attaches to the back and expands it's capacity.

      @@shansrouji the Prvke 31 is a fantastic bag and holds a huge amount of stuff, so if you need more space I would definitely recommend it. One downside is that the camera cube dividers are a bit thin, so if the cube isn't packed tight things can move around a fair bit. I agree with jan , not that this is a bad review , i enjoyed it u pointed out alot and made great points but i do think tht the capacity it also taken into account when its fully packed its and organising pack hence the many attachment options ( pending what ur using it for ofcourse) i think it could go both ways in a sense as if u didn’t use all the pockets there would be a larger main volume , never the less excellent review , and i still like errant pack but i do agree with the poor communication and reponses of boundary i reckon they could delt with the shipping and other problems for effeienctly instead of making false promises just to keep the customer happy for a couple more days ( honesty is the best policy ) hahahaha

    • @wiseguysshow1871
      @wiseguysshow1871 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have it and it is tight but it’s very much a pouch based carry. I use the Aux pack with it which I use as a large pouch along with the port kit and o absolutely love it because the Aux pack attaches to the front when I need additional volume. I carry my whole office everyday and it works great and converts to do a lot more with the modular accessories. If you are going to use just the bag for a large carry it won’t work for you but if you like modular carry, the errant is a killer bag. The one thing I disagree with the review on is that the function was not sacrificed for the look but rather limited to allow increased modularity. Every part of the bag allows for external attachments- the front takes the Aux or the straps, the top allows strap attachment, the bottom allows strap attachments and the bottom pouch (exm I think). If you like modular usage, this bag will expand to 30-33 liter carry.

    I love backpacks; I have watched countless hours of video reviews and read numerous posts on each and every backpack I like (recently including the Errant). What I look for is (obviously) objective reviews and on top of that: packing examples. In theory (including the descriptions and videos provided by the manufacturers themselves) everything works perfectly and the capacity of the backpack seems limitless.
    In practice, we usually face issues like the ones you describe in you video - and it is the first video I've seen that actually highlights such issues. Ok, the keyboard you used might be a bad example as it is quite bulky and not common, but that fact is that due to the "form over functionality", all pockets will probably be compressed to their limits when (almost) fully packed. On the other hand, one would love all these organizational features that may be used (or not) according to each occasion, allowing multiple configurations and functionality.
    To sum up: I liked your video review but I still want to get my hands on this backpack (but it gets really expensive to get to Greece, due to taxes, customs and shipping costs)!

    Absolutely love my errant, I use it as my main photography bag and even then I have room for things so I've had to start ordering the rest of the attachments just to fill empty room in the bag. It all boils down to what you use the bag for, for a photographer who is packing camera equipment, a laptop (not an extra keyboard), portable battery and all the works, you might find yourself with a hefty amount of room left. I will admit this isn't a one stop shop for the weekend warrior, you just gotta know what you are working with (the errant) and how to best use it.

  • @bobbysaini82

    All the problems mentioned in this are 100% accurate, the bag is very well made, but usability is limited due to its rigid outside design, while giving it a nice appearance, leaves very little space to actually work with. Build quality def 10/10, but depending on what you need it for, won't give you the space you would want for more than just a simple EDC backpack. With my work laptop and accessories, it can only hold my gym gear in addition to that and absolutely nothing else. Have to say disappointing given they did a great job on small details but sacrificed a lot to get there.

    Pretty disingenuous to say that the laptop panel takes up a certain amoint of room when you have items that are taking up that room. Same with the main compartment where you have a 16 inch laptop pouch about 1 inch thick, a keyboard, and a hoodie, yet you keep saying "just a keyboard". You don't like the bag that's fine, and yes the pockets all eat into the internal volume, but youre really going in on nothing in some of these criticisms.

    well done review. not just another "oh wow this is such a cool stuff" review. still waiting for mine, hopefully it'll work for me, I don't carry much stuff. and hopefully I dodged the QC issue that is plaguing the campaign.

  • @no.9516
    @no.9516 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I mean.. .you don't really need the main body if the item fits from the outside. The goal of the pack is to fit your stuff, which it does in an inverse way. "Modularity" is their whole brand. I see no contradiction here. I see someone who didn't buy the appropriate bag for their needs. lol For me it was a very comfortable edc for Afghanistan when I got tired of the tactical aesthetic of the ASAP.

    The more I look for a bag, the more I see this just takes room from that and if you use this you can't use this... The more I'm leaning towards the Tom Bihn Synapse. Two things have kept me from pulling the trigger on that bag 1) price and 2) shape... but the more I see other bags, the more I can see how that bag makes sense. I honestly don't have much I carry around with me, but bags I do have can carry with ease, but just don't stop and pick up much, cuz it easily just won't fit... Either you carry EDC stuff or you carry stuff you went to get, but you can't do both. I can see the "outside" pockets on the Synapse carrying my EDC leaving the "bucket" free for other stuff if I stop at the store... contending only with my laptop, which realistically doesn't need much space.
    All my other bags steal space from the inside when you use the outside pockets, which becomes an issue when you stop just to pick up something... too much moving around just to make it work. I too commute on a bike, I don't even own a car and have no desire to own one.

  • @gurungbros7461

    Space is a real issue as he said. I am currently using it as my everyday carry to go to school but space is filled super easily. I love the compartments but you can't fill compartment without compromising another.

    Between Errant and Boundary Prima system which one would you recommend? I need it for my travel needs and everyday carry :) Also I need to fit my camera! Looks like the Prima System is the clear winner, even though I was really excited about the Errant backpack.

    • @HumorousMaximus
      @HumorousMaximus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Prima, without question. Pocket layout makes sense, it can expand a bit, and the huge zipper down the middle makes access a lot easier. Plus, those magnetic buckles!

    This came across as a touch bitter haha. I like watching negative reviews because it gives good perspective, but I also just watched someone pack this for a 7 day trip bringing lots of extras.. so I think if you spend some time thinking about how you pack it this bag has lots of potential.

    Yeah, the Errant is NOT a big bag. If you want a big one, you go with the Prima. I have both, and the Prima is big enough for me to carry my 15.5" work laptop AND my personal Surface Book, and have pretty much all of the main compartment open. The Errant is only big enough for one of the two laptops.
    I like the smaller bag. YMMV.

    • @HumorousMaximus
      @HumorousMaximus  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, I think I just needed to get my hands on it to confirm what I was suspecting. I also wanted to feel the X-PAC fabric. Pockets were just too “off” for me. I’ll stick with my NF Access for my EDC. Thanks for watching.

      That's so true, and makes sense as they both have the same form (pretty narrow and deep); plus, since the HP Odyssey does not open suitcase-like like the Errant it's even harder to reach items at the bottom of the bag.
      Even though I love the looks and (promised) functionality of the Errant, I find it hard to spend 5-6 times the price of the Odyssey for it, as I have many of the features already in my hands with this humble but practical backpack.

    Boundary’s Prima System campaign was a mess too. Tons of broken promises and outright lies. I’m glad I didn’t back this one. I was really on the fence. I was looking for something lighter than the Prima, that thing is heavy just on its own. I can’t see myself backing anything else. It’s a shame, because they have some good ideas, but there execution on both bags seems off. Not to mention the accessories that they overpromise and under deliver (And charge a fortune for).

      - external access pockets could have more volume
