Lovely to see you back, Bazza, and many congratulations on the healthy choices - something us old gits generally have to face up to, and you've done really well.
I used to have the Sinclair TV. My father built a little circuit board in order to power it without the battery. Stupidly, I sold it on Ebay together with my QL.
We used to use the Acorn Archimedes in college back in 1989, not a bad machine. Well done on the weight loss mate, keep on it, I have lost 4 stone in just over 2 years. I.had my one and only tattoo on my back in 1991, hurt like hell as I had sunburn at the time.
Great Tattoo lol =D Glad you're OK, and getting healthier =D I would get a ZIDEFS IDE podule for this machine, and up the RAM to 4MB if you can too (IFEL module). Done a few repairs on these, and showed / talked about some of the games and how to get them running with ADFFS. If you need help getting hold of some of those games, give me a shout.
Hi, sorry for the delayed response have been taking a break from TH-cam lately and only just got round to the comments!! Thanks very much for the suggestions and advice I really appreciate it. I still haven't even fired the machine up yet!!
hey baz. you're looking great.. you've got some cracking deals there.. i know the sinclair telly is in mint nick. but blimey even the a3010 is too.. you've struck gold with them both..
Awesome tattoo mate, never owned or played on an acorn, be interesting to see what plays on it when you get sorted. I have the same TV, very cool. Nice to have you back on the tubes mate 👍.
I've never seen a Acorn computer, but have heard off off there operating system and never seen a program running, nice items to have in your collection 👍
Amazing Bazza xx the A3010 (and 3020) were the first computers ever mass-produced with an ARM soc. A System on Chip (the type of arm chip in your fone.. and telly, chromebooks, macs etc..) The ARM250 contained cpu, memc, iomd - though 1 think the vidc was still separate. . that machine came with riscos 3.11 - a very powerful os with a library of world-changing professional apps (!Artworks became Xara studio and then Autodesk illustrator etc..) though you need a few upgrades for more than home use. and yes, the floppy drive will read almost any disc. The default ADFS acorn HD floppies are 1.6mb. >> www.marutan.net/rpcemu/easystart.html
Congratulations on the weight loss! That Sinclair telly looks lovely. I think, though may be wrong, that My Mate Vince TH-cam channel did a long winded workaround for another pocket TV, a Sony one iirc. So maybe watching something on them is possible.
Hello. You can connect a serial 3 button mouse, but you'll have to load the driver from the CLI. I advise you to buy an IDE card with a DOM (Disk On Module) from a stardot member who makes them and sells them. ( about GBP30 ) On it you will have already installed the equivalent of WHDload for the Archimedes machines, it is called ADFFS. Also, the best is that you ask some help on the forum : there are many knowledgeable and helpful people there. If you don't find a mouse and a SCART lead, I can sell them to you, and it'll be cheap :-) Also check you have 4 Mbytes of memory, I can send that to you too. Congrats if you own a rare A3010 with an Adelaïde board : it means your machine can have an ARM3 upgrade, in the future. The Archimedes are geat machines, the OS is very powerful and user-friendly. I would have never learnt assembly language without the ARM CPU : it is the smartest, most powerful and easiest to understand you could find back in the days.
Well done losing weight mate and nice tat! Welcome to the club ;) That's some nice new kit you've got there, I haven't used an "Archemedes" since school, so i don't remember much, the operating system was alright though, just a bit of a lack of games I think. That battery for the Sinclair TV looks a bit janky haha, surely you wouldn't get more than a few minutes out of that! Take care of yourself bud! No rush to come back to things :) I really should hunt you out on facebook lol
Thanks!! Been thinking about one for years.... At least the best part of 25 years, but always backed out!! Tbh I think I'll give trying a near 37 year old battery a miss 😀
Hi Bazza. This video flashed up on my screen and I realised I was after one of those tv's when they first came out and this has just reignited my passion for getting one. I'm with you on that tv, they look absolutely Fantastic..!! Will definitely need to check out Facebook marketplace...😃😃 Sir Clive was way ahead of his time & even predicted electric cars by early 21st Century (he tried to get in early on the act with the Clive 5). I think his products just look so fantastic, so I'm now going to try to collect some of them. You've got a really fantastic condition one there, even the battery is still in its original wrapper. Do you mind if I ask you how much you paid for it so as to give me a guide on price.. Once again a great video there mate & all the best in improving your health 👍👍 🐱🐱
Hi there, Glad you enjoyed the video. I paid fifty quid for it. I wasn't actually looking for one at the time, I just searched 'sinclair' on marketplace and it popped up, and was local to me too, which was an added bonus!! There was another TV available too, the predecessor to this one, but I had to make a choice and went for this, and glad I did!! Yeah sinclair products always looked great, to me at least, the late Rick Dickinson being responsible for many of the iconic designs. Even the misfires like the ql and c5 look wonderful!! Happy hunting.... Try checking out the sinclair for sale group if you're after spectrums or possibly zx81s
The Acorn is overall a better computer than the Amiga and ST (Amiga and ST are 16bit systems) The Acorn you have there is a 32bit system.. Very clean computer. (Best way to brighten yellowing is just to sunbathe it and not use chemicals) Does not need any cosmetics doing to that computer. You should see if you can link up you 48k speccy to that pocket tv that would be so cool.
Oh I thought the mini TV would have a RF connection.. The TV picture will be black and white.. The Battery will be fine "It is has not swollen" Nice little find though even if you never get to use it.
It would be great to link up a speccy to it just for the laugh, although it doesn't seem to have any inputs that would allow it, although I'm pretty sure some modern wizardry exists that achieves it!! Thanks for the tips for the acorn
Trying to get a decent signal on pocket tv's was a nightmare, never mind that they chewed through batteries like nobodies business. Not good when you're trying to provide entertainment for someone who was/is regularly in hospital and didn't want to pay the extortionate prices charged by the hospital and/or those running the service, or should I say scam.
I know what you mean.... I was in hospital for around ten days in 2014 and a prepaid card for 4 days telly and stuff was about 25 quid. Fortunately a very nice nurse gave me the ward WiFi password instead
The A3010 is in beautiful condition. Have you looked at this site for games? Hamsters and the Archimedes version of Elite are my two favourite. www.iconbar.com/downloads/
Rather you than me. I've never got the appeal of permanently defacing your body, but each to their own. I've known of people 70+ getting their first tattoo.
I agree, I really don't get it. They have connotations too, I mean a lot of people if they see someone with one they try to avoid them. But each to their own I guess.
@@BazzaHSpeccymad Well it's your body and you're free to do what you like (within reason) with it. I'm sure people thought the same when I had my one and only 'brave' moment in life when getting my ear pierced (taken out many years ago) when I was at college. So when are you getting a Spectrum (or a game character) tattoo done?

Cheers mate. Gonna get you tattooed next.
Glad your doing OK Baz. Picked up one of those TV's last year. No luck getting it to work but looks great
Thanks mate I appreciate that.
Yeah I have no expectation of it working, it just looks lovely!!
I've never seen a Acorn computer, but have heard off off there operating system and never seen a program running, nice items to have in your collection 👍
This is the first archimedes I've ever seen in real life. Know very little about it, including the operating system!!
You're fine using an RF lead from the Speccy for the 3010👍
Thanks!! I've a couple spare
