  • This video shows the top 10 male table tennis players from 2001 to 2019. Over the past 20 years, the ranking system of ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) has changed several times. That's why sometimes the points change dramatically from the 2,000 range to the 10,000 range.

    I usually admire Chinese table tennis players the most because they seemed to be just unmatched.
    But I respect Timo Boll almost at the same level as Wang Liqin, Ma Lin, and Ma Long. He just has that longevity and stability I have not seen in any other player. He might not ever reach the top, but he played the best of the best for two decades.

  • @siteswaper531
    @siteswaper531 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The truth is, as dominant as the Chinese players look on this chart, China is even more dominant if you consider that international tournaments only have a limited number of spots per country. China only gives the opportunity to travel to their top 2-3 players (Ma Long, Zhang Jike, etc.), but there are many, many other players in China that play near that top level.

    • @xx765
      @xx765 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If all Chinese players are allowed to enter international tournaments, they will probably get 14 out of the top 16 spots every time. It's a known fact that the singles gold at the Chinese National Games is the most difficult title in TT. Zhang Jike, one of the most decorated players on international level, never managed to get in top 4 in men's single his four or five attempts at the Chinese National Games. There are just so many player at the similar level. That's also why Ma Long is the GOAT with his two wins in men's single in Chinese Games. Only player in the history of China to ever do so.

    China was not the dominant player in table tennis from the beginning; until 1960, it was a Japanese powerhouse. It wasn't until the emergence of that man - Eikoku Tuan - that China rewrote history. Since then, the success of table tennis has greatly inspired the Chinese, who lacked self-confidence at the time. In addition, table tennis was not very dependent on physical fitness and court, which really suited China at that time.
