I met Bobby in an elevator at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the early 2000's. Just he and I. He was true NASCAR royalty, right up there with Richard Petty and David Pearson. Bobby, Davey and Clifford are telling racing stories once again. Oh...and Neil...can't leave out Mr. Bonnett.
I think Bobby enjoyed racing as much as I enjoyed watching him race. I saw him in a race at Greenville-Pickens where he broke a shock tower and repaired it himself then went back on the track 50 miles behind in a 100 mile race. But you would have thought he was leading the race the way he drove. Between him and Pearson I don't know which is my favorite driver. They were both great drivers and great gentlemen.
One of the things I loved about NASCAR when I first became a fan was the fact that so many of the legends of the sport were still walking among us. Unfortunately the last few years we've started to lose them (Pearson, Johnson, Baker, Yarborough, now Bobby, just to name a few). I knew that would eventually happen because no one lives forever, but it's still tough to lose these heroes of mine.
Bobby Allison is a legend, was an underdog financially when he began competing yet kept winning and finishing well. Racing runs in his family's blood with Donnie Allison and Davey Allison. RIP to a beloved champion
@grasstocher1234 I'm dreading The King passing, I'll probably cry when DW passes...he was part of my childhood watching NASCAR on FOX back in the 2000's.
Bobby Alison was one of my favourite drivers in nascar history I loved watching him race and win. Bobby will always be my favourite driver. Rest in peace Bobby Alison 1937 to 2024 forever more in our hearts.
My friend and I traveled to Charlotte Motor Spedway for our first race. We were sitting on a wall outside the track and Bobby walked right in front of us like another race fan. He was a humble man of the people. We will miss you, Bobby.
Another piece of my childhood is gone. I remember watching Bobby race on TV. And I remember reading his name racing a short track nearby me in eastern Washington state. RIP Bobby 😢😢😢😢
A couple of days ago i had a conversation with my dad about nascar drivers. I said that i was more a fan of the old days of nascar than what it is today, and my dad seemingly didn't share that opinion. But i think that drivers like bobby show at least to me why nascar will never be on the same level again, the combination of the most interesting characters in nascar, with the prettiest nascar cars that ever raced during a time when the sports popularity was at an all time high. To me these guys today will never get close
One of the best to ever race in NASCAR history, a founding member to one of the most legendary groups, and a pioneer both on and of the track. Rest in peace, good sir.
I meet got to meet him in 2015 at the Hall of Fame during speed weeks. I was a very humble and caring man to talk with. He will eb missed. Rest in Peace!!
I have a picture with him from 2011 when he was inducted. I sang at the Chapel service in Charlotte that year for the drivers. What a legend. What a great human being. He’s on the Mount Rushmore of NASCAR drivers. RIP, Bobby!
Rest in peace brother See you when I see you Thank you for the memories and introducing me to NASCAR when I first watched you race on tv back in the late 70’s Say hi to Dale and Davey for me 🥲
Had to watch this 3 times, kept wiping tears away. When I became a NASCAR fan in 1976, he became my 1st favorite driver. I had the privilege of meeting him about 4 times, and have several pictures of me and him. I also have the shoes he wore in Fastmasters series at IRP that were auctioned off, autographed. RIP Bobby, you were a gem, one last checkered flag for you
His appearance in the fastmasters series was epic. He looked awesome out there and was a hint that he likely could have done some cup racing by 1990 but was smart to get out of the car allow others to drive (though I wish we could have seen him at least one more time in the #12 car. Neil passing in the car during the 1994 Daytona 500 practice was a sad reminder the fragility of life and that Bobby likely made the best decision he could have. he has endured enough for one lifetime and many more- I'm glad he can be with his boys and neil (Dale too I reckon...) once again. Red Farmer might not get there for another 20+ years due to prior racing committments but I'm sure he will be there too.
Another Great passes on, Thanks for all the Memories. Been a racing fan since I first attended a race as a 5 years old kid back in 1957 at a dirt track in Cottage Grove Oregon they now call the Grove. The drivers of his time line were all at the pinnacle of Nascars greatest period a time like no other in stock car racing. R I P CHAMP.
I remember meeting Bobby as a young boy in the 80’s in Syracuse NY when he came to drive a DIRT Modified in the Schaffer 200. RIP to a true American Legend.
R.I.P. Bobby, I saw him drive on Daytona beach when I was 12 in 1984 1 year before our first Firecracker 400, peelin' out in the dirt going by fans in a parade on the beach. And I saw him win in 1987 in the Firecracker 400. 😢🏁
I'm very saddened by the death of Bobby Allison. I have been following NASCAR since watching the 1979 Daytona 500 as a 9 year-old. I have been watching the passing of all the great drivers that thrilled me since then. Now at 55, I'm mourning another great
As a project when I was in the 3rd grade in 1976, we had to write to celebrities. I chose then as a little kid my favorite driver, Bobby Alllison. I received a fan club sticker and 2 post cards, one of the Coca Cola Monte Carlo and the other of the Cam 2 Mercury. Those items are still in my posession 48 years later.
That's a cool story. That makes you around 57 years old. ? Which is my age. Thats when I started watching racing. Mine was the 43. But I liked them all really. Back then they weren't on TV very much. You had to watch tape delay from week prior on wide world of sports
Good thing he lived to see his 85th win
I'm glad they did the right thing and gave him that win that was rightfully his.
Absolutely
@@BlueOvalHero agreed
Why it was done. Call it compassionate care. No disrespect as other family but the poor man can hopefully see his wife and boys again now. -U10
@@sonny_njr with in a week Bobby dies. After they finally give him the win. Now he's with his bro and son.

Beautiful tribute, NASCAR. Thanks for this. May Bobby Allison rest in peace.
R.I.P to the legend of NASCAR. May he fly to Victory Lane 🏁❤️😔
Really sad by this. What a life this man led. From the highest of highs to the lowest and most tragic lows. Hopefully he can rest now.
This family gave so much to this sport, yet had suffered so greatly.
