All the aunties and uncles in the world do. I ask my niece and nephew if they remember I took them to buy candy when they were around four every so often, haha.

Went back to Fuzhou earlier this month after 8 years. Best experience of my life. This video reminded me why I love China. I have been craving ban mian everyday since😭😭
Happy to see more overseas Chinese reconnecting again :) I was born in Europe, but my parents brought me to their rural Chinese hometown so they could focus on earning money while I was taken care of by my grandparents up until i turned 4/5. Though I was not there for as long as you did, I still have many memories of that humble but free life I had. I am sad and regretful about not visiting my grandparents more often as they are getting real old now, and one has already passed away. This serves me to learn to take nothing for granted and really cherish the moments you have with your family. If you have the financial means to do so, please visit them often. To our grandparents, seeing their children and grandchildren is one of their greatest joy in life.
So that only makes you first generation Chinese in Europe, I'm 4th generation in North America when my great grandad moved here in 1892 and I still yearn to go back to the Motherland and as I grow older the west is no longer a good place to live !
@@etow8034You are to be commended for your need to be connected to roots. My grand nieces would be 4 or 5th generation Chinese Americans. Maybe only one has a feeling to connect with China. I wish you the best. Do visit China! 👍

Randomly saw this in my algorithm it’s definitely one of the best China vlogs, because it’s simple and pure and you could feel the nostalgia and family love! I hope you can go back and visit other places too!
Ryan, as your older brother, I would like to give you some advice: Go to China often and see your family. One day, when they leave this world (I hope they have many long and healthy years), you will regret every moment you didn't see them when you grow up. I never saw my grandfathers, but I regret every moment I couldn't be with my grandmothers before they died. Don't make the mistakes I made. Even if your home is America, your roots are in China and never forget your culture.
I used to only tell ppl I'm an Oz, but now I'm in Europe, I tell people I'm Chinese first. Sometimes, people would be surprised that I speak good English, then I tell them I'm an Australian as well 😂 I'm proud of my roots.
Such an incredible visit back! Awesome editing too! I’m currently in China for the first time, my husband’s home country, and I’m blown away by how wonderful the people, the food, the cities, the natural landscapes, really everything has been 🥹 Great to watch your first time back after so many years!! You have such a wonderful family and your cousins are so adorable!
You picking your cousin up from school and making him a burger will for sure be core memories for him when he grows up. I for some reason got tears in my eyes thinking about it. Such wholesome moments that feel ordinary but they become some of the best memories when we’re older 🥹

Pozdrav. Izvinite ako sam pogriješila ponegdje, nisam nažalost 100% savladala "naš" jezik.
Wow, how is it even possible to watch a video of someone having experiences on the other side of the world and feel like I was there? As a Brazilian guy who lives in a big city, I identify so much with you when you visited your old hometown in China. My family was raised in the countryside, and the last time I was there, I got in touch with a part of my family that I had just forgotten about. Since the last time I saw them was like 15 years ago. Even though the whole experience was life-changing, as I feel more connected with my roots and felt so loved and seen by this part of me that I just forgot that I had.
This is kinda personal , but this is one of the most relatable vlogs I have ever watched. My oldest cousin from Canada came to Bangladesh (our home country) after 12 years. Even though we were 18 years apart we were still really close with each other. We would spend hours chatting. It really felt like he was my biological brother . On the day, he left he bawled his eyes out and so did I . I saw that bond in you and your cousins which we often don't see in this world of internet. Loved your vlogs!! Definitely coming back for more.
Honestly, watching this just gives me so much nostalgia. I was born in Chongqing, China and lived there until I was 5, and my parents and I frequently visited our relatives all over China during the Christmas holidays. I haven't been back since COVID-19, it's been 4 years. This has to be one of the best China vlogs I've seen, Fuzhou is such a beautiful place!
yes! i have the same experience, i was born in Dalian and moved when i was 5. because of covid i coulnd go back to china for 4 years and i just felt so bad, but luckily i went back on february and i missed my family sooo much and china has changed so much too, i was tacken aback
This was such a sweet video. And honestly it made me a little jealous. I also went back to China when I was 18 after being away from the country for 10 years, but I had so little memories, I don’t even remember where I went to school. I also didn’t have little cousins so it definitely felt a bit lonely because I don’t remember any of the friends I had as an elementary student… I didn’t feel like I made the same deep reconnection you did with your family (most of my close family moved with me to the U.S.). But I did feel that deep connection with my roots. This year I went back to China again (as a 33 year old) and again I felt the deep connection with my roots and a deeper connection with the family still there (I guess I’m older now so I connect better with my older relatives). I spent a long time traveling across China and really enjoyed and appreciated this country. I hope in the future, I’ll make more friends in China so I can enjoy it even more 😊maybe I’d even consider moving back. (P.s. I live in nyc as well. So this video really spoke to me)
@@cameronlim WOW, catching you here! Glad to hear that you are going to China, but Chengdu is also a must-go city, you can try so much spicy food and see a lot of cute pandas!
Hello, I’m adopted Chinese in America raised by white parents and this video really helped me appreciate my home country a bit more. I’ve wanted to connect to my own roots more lately. Thanks for sharing!
I am sorry that China was poor at the time of your adoption. I doubt China will let that happened again. I assume you are female, now China treat their girls like princesses. How the world changed.
I'm also from NYC and preparing for my own trip to China next month to visit my grandma. The TH-cam algorithm never fails - so glad it led me to your vid!! ☺
watching this vlog made me so happy. reminded me of my visit back to china last month after 6 years 😭 everything u described were so real, the moped, the bike, the villages, the fresh food, and ofc, family
Very happy I found this on my FYP !! I love to see people connect with community, explore their culture and more :) I would love to go to China one day there is SO MUCH to explore and experience
crazy how nostalgia and family love connects across countries, continents, and cultures. i am mexican and ive lived in california since i was 7 as well. this feels so similar to what i experience every time i go back to mexico and visit family. it's insane how your blood recognizes your homeland, it's almost like you can breathe easier and feel so much lighter in your skin. love being shown around and getting to eat my favorite foods in the world. this is so special and beautiful. i cry every time i have to go home as well
this video is so comforting as someone who has went back to china and watched their parents see everyone, then to see their faces light up GETS ME EVERYTIMEEE 😭😭
The moment when you had to say goodbye made me tear up. Being immigrant myself I know the feeling, saying goodbye, especially to grandparents, was the hardest. Coming back after such long time is really eye opening sometimes, you discover that the roots that were dormant for so long, are still there and you start to treasure more your family traditions. Growing up being an immigrant is hard because you really have a point when you can face identity crisis, not having a clear idea to which culture you really belong. But when you become an adult you start to discover more of both worlds and you can have so much from both of them and accept the huge and important impact that this has on you, and treasure it.
I was literally bawling my eyes watching your final vlog in China with your grandparents and cousin … they are genuine ppl who enjoy the simple things in life.
Gahhh this made me cry my eyes out🥹 I’m also an only child - but I also don’t have any cousins. So my end of the family tree feels INCREDIBLY small - and lonely. I moved from Thailand when I was 7 and ever since, I’ve felt like I’ve been floating, trying to understand myself and the world without any direction or anchor that one might get from having family around you, as well as understanding your history. This video just really made me miss my maternal grandmother - and made me regret the little time I spent with her that I didn’t fully appreciate. This video has inspired me to get back to learning Thai properly so I can communicate with her better the next time I see her. To any of my other mixed-races lovelies out there who are finding it hard to find your place in this world - you’re stronger than you think, and you have more connections and unconditional love than you realise. You just gotta take the time to seek them out!
i just went back to china last month for the first time in 11 years as a 15 year old. china has developed pretty quickly over these 11 years. i've seen the subway system in places like ningbo, xi'an, and taipei, and they all look super fantastic. spending time with extended family has been extremely fun and they were so welcoming because we don't see each other that often because i do still live in illinois. this reminded me of the lovely days we had. thank you!
This video was so good. I got tears watching how nice everyone in your family was so nice to you. Grandma and Grandpa and mom and dad look very good you got good genes there. All of them are good looking. Your aunts and cousins are so sweet. I’m glad you had such a beautiful experience and happy memories ❤
AHHHHH I’m from 福州 too! Thanks for sharing your adventure in福州 since it’s not very well known by others😭 watching this video makes me feel so weird and happy at the same time 因为我感觉自己又回到了自己的家乡,
My ancestors are from Gutian county 100km from Fuzhou, my great grandparents are born there before migrated to South East Asia, we still speak the language today.
Before you even said you bawled your eyes out saying goodbye at the airport.... I was already bawling my eyes out. Thank you for sharing such a personal, intimate trip with us. I really appreciate it and wish your whole extended family many blessings and hope you can go back to see them often in the future as well as I hope they can come out to see you as well. Blessings.
i can't explain the rollercoaster of emotions i went through while watching the video. i laughed, i cried, it felt so nostalgic, every single thing felt nostalgic. like when you first arrived there and opened the door, those chairs, i don't know if i should call them sofas or not, or whatever it is called lol, i felt like i was 4 once again while bugging my grandma who was sitting there doing her stuff. the local market with all the meat and chicken open and exposed lol i used to go out shopping for groceries for the day with my grandma everyday i'm currently 17, i was born in brazil but when i was 3 months old, i went back to china and lived for 4 years there then came back. i've been living here ever since, which has been around 13 years since i last saw my relatives, aunties, grandmas, cousins, etc., and throughout all those 13 years i've been promising them i would go back to visit "once i grow up", which technically, is this year since i'll turn 18 and i'll finish school. the village my parents grew up and where i lived for a few years will forever be part of me, that one part that makes me keep going.
Ryan, as a fellow Fujianese, I really appreciate you posting this vlog. My parents are from two small cities close to Fuzhou as well. I lived in Xiamen for more than 8 years before I moved to Canada when I was 13 years old. So everything in your video looks so familiar to me. You really made me miss China. In the end, when your grandpa said he would miss you every day that you were gone, I couldn't help but cry and miss my family members who are still there. I sincerely hope when I do visit them, I will be able to bond with them and have the same wonderful experience you had with your lovely family, who are so close and loving towards one another. Wish you all the best from Canada.
Also, you seem to be a very positive, brave and energetic person who is always ready to try and experience something new. I am in awe of so many things you did with your relatives and your little cousins while you were there. Your vlog has become so inspirational to me because of this. Thank you!

I enjoyed watching so much. Real, honest, heart warming. You have a wonderful family. Go back often!! Especially for your younger cousin. He really will miss you.
This hit close to home for me. I haven’t had the chance to go back to my roots and explore my culture in 10 years as well. I really do miss the atmosphere of my childhood. This video felt nostalgic and healing.
Wow. Very bittersweet video. Nostalgic trip to China which resonates across all cultures. Loved that 90% of the video was you with a mouthful of delicious food ! Made me want to visit China just to eat all the wonderful dishes.
WOW! It’s a totally different perspective of China! So warm and welcoming! The mainstream media doesn’t cover this perspective. I would love to hear your back story about why you immigrated to the USA at age 7, and, how you came to have an apartment in NYC at age 18. Perhaps you could do an entire vlog post on what I suspect is an extremely interesting story, Kudos to you for honoring your land of birth and ancestors!!
What a nice holiday you had, getting reacquainted with your cousins, grandparents, and hometown culture, the food, the country side, and city life. Hope you are treasuring the sweet experiences! I sure dig your little male cousin, he is so sweet who really shows his love for you. I am happy that at 18 you have such awareness and smarts! Do keep your connection with your relatives and China! 👍☮️❤️🇨🇳
I am also Chinese but I have never been to China before or met any of my relatives from there. I really want to go and connect with my culture and family more.
You need to, 100%. It actually shifts your psychology for the better and instills you with genuine pride. I say this for all Chinese(and really every person of every ethnicity), go visit your motherland. Especially in the case of China where the reality there is diametrically opposed to how it's portrayed. This is for geopolitical reasons of course
Ryan, your vlog about returning to your village after 10 years hit me immediately. It's so inspiring to see someone reconnect with their roots. I recently visited my hometown of Lufeng, China, after 7 years, and it was a similar experience. Seeing the familiar faces, the same old streets and the unchanged traditions brought back a flood of memories. Your video made me appreciate my own journey even more...
What a great vlog, truly a trip down memory lane. Made me remember my visit back to China in 2017 and how different and loving the culture back there is. You and your cousin bonding reminded me of my experince and it was something that i'll not forget. ❤
this randomly popped up for me and reminded me of the time I lived in China. Whenever I craved the taste of home, I would order McDonalds and though I am not a fan of KFC, I thought the one in China tasted better than the one here in America. I even like the slight differences in menu. This was such a fun vlog! 😄
As a fellow Chinese person it’s amazing to see how much different life is in china, I was born in America and only went back twice and the last time I went was 2018. I really want to go back sometime soon. Keep vlogging bro!
i loved this vlog and the family aspect of it and the emotions of love you could feel through the video!! hope you can go back again soon and spend more time with your family and cousins
Cool to see you experienced so many kinds of activity in China! It makes me wanna go back this year too... Also I thought that being raised in a village and moving to NYC was crazy, until I saw your grandpa's birthday celebration lmao
That was an awesome video, brought back alot of nostalgic memories for me while watching you going thru your journey back home. I don't care what they say but real men do cry, I balled my eyes out at 11 and 21yrs. Ahhh China, I miss you...
This has reminded me of my experience in China when I was little (maybe around 7-8 yrs old) and I've never related to a vlog before. It makes me miss when I went in the Summer before. I remember some good times like how I was shocked about the toilet seat being all the way to the floor, doing face masks, riding on my cousins roller blades, and coming back to America full of mosquito bites even though I had slept with mosquito curtain thingys around the bed. Truly nostalgic! I hope to visit again soon to see my mom's older brother's baby son.
This got randomly recommended to me and it reminds me of my cousins. They were born in Hong Kong and moved to Utah over 12 years ago. They are coming to HK to visit us next month and although we have visited them in the US they have not been back since they left. I bet it will feel just as nostalgic as you were in the video, other than one of the cousins who left HK as a toddler. Their mom (my dad's older sister) and my dad were actually from Fujian too, like you, and they moved to HK as kids, and your village reminds me of his village
Dude same!! I went back to Taiwan after living in California for 11 years and the experience was euphoria. Revisiting the bistros & streets I frequented, and then reuniting with my relatives who raised me was so heartwarming.❤ Love the content btw, thanks for sharing 🤗🌻🌻
I was happy to see how happy you and your family were. What a beautiful trip! Life is short, don't miss the chance to be happy and stay where you feel welcomed.
Thank you for sharing this insight into your family. It's so hard to separate what is true and not about China. I loved seeing your unique perspective as someone that has lived in both China and the United States of America. I cried when you had to leave too! I hope some day to be able to visit China. I've always been fascinated by the history, mix of cultures and language. 謝謝
Wow the village is so beautiful!!! my grandparents town has become pretty urbanized but its so great to see people still living in buildings that arent 50+ floor skyscrapers
Keep in touch with your little cousin if you can. You can tell he loves you as his big brother and will miss you greatly. . I know living in NYC can consume your life if you let it but keeping in touch with family is important too. The hard part is the time zone difference. Continued success with you vlog.
i'm also from fuzhou and i moved back to ny at 4. it's been 20 yrs now and i'm 24. i wanna go back so bad to see my grandparents. it's also crazy how modernized fuzhou is now, compared to before, watching this video.
This made me homesick. Though America specifically NYC may "seem" to be better or have more opportunities. I miss the simple life back home. The greenery and the random wild animals. I'm not from Asia, I am from the Caribbean but things are still similar. I am glad you got to go home and see your family. :)
absolutely loved this vlog! you have done a great job documenting it all! it's so nice to see people being this loved and comforted by their family and relatives. i wasn't born in china but my parents and siblings are from there and i still feel some kind of a nostalgia wathcing this vlog. i hope i can visit china once again with my mom when she's still with me
I watched it on TH-cam's recommendation. What a heartfelt vlog! I love the simplicity, warmth and personal nature of the video. You have very good kind relatives. P.S. I agree with the comments, this is truly the best video about China I have ever seen.
TH-cam recommended this and I certainly did not expect to see my hometown Xiamen here haha. I also spent some time in Fuzhou when I was younger, so this is very nostalgic for me and makes me really miss home. Glad you enjoyed the experience and got the chance to reconnect with your roots! Kind of a missed opportunity that you did not try 沙茶面 (sha cha mian) when you visited those old streets of Zhongshan Rd but ban mian surely is good!
What a cool vlog! From the places you visited to the time you spent with your family! Hope you can come back to China soon! I'm sure you'd make awesome content traveling around the country

Ryan, what you went through is the exact same thing I went through but at 21. I had gone back for 3 weeks after 10 years, and it left me craving so much more about my roots that I went back again at 24 through a study abroad program that was a year long. As an ABC, and born in America, I had only gone back to China when I was around 10 years old. Reconnecting with my grandparents, forming a relationship with my godmother that I'd only met once when I was 9, meeting my godbrother (her son) for the first time and becoming good friends with him, hanging out with his friends, coming along to reunion dinners for my mom and her middle school best friends that hadn't seen each other in over 30 years, learning to use wechat, etc. Even never "seeing so many chinese people in one place" was something I remember feeling so strongly when I first arrived. My only regret is not starting my YT channel before I went back to China because I didn't know how to capture everything I wanted to capture during my precious time there. The more "levels to adulting" I unlock, the more I'm dying to go back and experience China in a more rich, meaningful way. Thank you for sharing this vlog, so cool to see my own experience and feelings captured so well!!
its so funny when aunties and uncles say they held you as a baby and they expect you to remember😂😂😂

You picking your cousin up from school and making him a burger will for sure be core memories for him when he grows up. I for some reason got tears in my eyes thinking about it. Such wholesome moments that feel ordinary but they become some of the best memories when we’re older 🥹
5:16 as a Chinese Indonesian i just realized while living in a different countries my family and i still do Traditions like this. If i didnt watch this vlog then I'll never knew so thank you so much and i hope your great granpa rest in peace❤
I'm Korean-American, and watching this made me realize how nice China actually is. My Filipino step-sister wants to go to college in China, so this is pretty cool seeing how China is.
it’s pretty neat… even rural villages in china are quite decent, let alone big cities… it’s just so convenient
what?are you serious?
Yes thanks to capitalism and investments by US/Japan
What
Ryan, people in China can’t watch TH-cam😂 It’s unless if they bought a VPN or else they wouldn’t know what a TH-cam vlog is 👽
I'm from Serbia, but watching your vlog makes me want to visit China, so I am placing it on my todo list to do one day when I have a stable life and a job.
Pozdrav. Izvinite ako sam pogriješila ponegdje, nisam nažalost 100% savladala "naš" jezik.
Hope Serbia side with China and prosper together.
Stable life and job. Me too.

I really felt the warmth through this video. The love of your family has for you is truly beautiful
So this video really spoke to me)
The food looks so gooddd 🤤. I’m going to China for the first time this summer and I litterally can’t wait!!

无论在哪里,希望你幸福
you wouldn't know living in America, but China's lowkey the GOAT. please go visit

love from China
Awww, your little cousin is so cute, he admires you so much 😭💕
The moment when you had to say goodbye made me tear up.
This made me cry, beautiful. Blessings to you and your family.
There's something very touching about watching someone go home
Awww, seeing you with your grandparents is so wholesome. :')
i just went back to china last month for the first time in 11 years as a 15 year old. china has developed pretty quickly over these 11 years. i've seen the subway system in places like ningbo, xi'an, and taipei, and they all look super fantastic. spending time with extended family has been extremely fun and they were so welcoming because we don't see each other that often because i do still live in illinois. this reminded me of the lovely days we had. thank you!
also going back to ningbo and hangzhou, seafood was very plentiful
This video was so good. I got tears watching how nice everyone in your family was so nice to you. Grandma and Grandpa and mom and dad look very good you got good genes there. All of them are good looking. Your aunts and cousins are so sweet. I’m glad you had such a beautiful experience and happy memories ❤
AHHHHH I’m from 福州 too! Thanks for sharing your adventure in福州 since it’s not very well known by others😭 watching this video makes me feel so weird and happy at the same time 因为我感觉自己又回到了自己的家乡,

This vlog is genuinely one of the best I have ever seen. So glad you seemed to have such an enjoyable time!!
Blessings.
Ending part of the video literally made me teared up. I loved the bonding of you and your Lil cousin brother ❤️
This was so sweet! My two daughters are Chinese and we plan to go back next summer. We haven’t been back since 2010:(
i can't explain the rollercoaster of emotions i went through while watching the video. i laughed, i cried, it felt so nostalgic, every single thing felt nostalgic.
like when you first arrived there and opened the door, those chairs, i don't know if i should call them sofas or not, or whatever it is called lol, i felt like i was 4 once again while bugging my grandma who was sitting there doing her stuff. the local market with all the meat and chicken open and exposed lol i used to go out shopping for groceries for the day with my grandma everyday
i'm currently 17, i was born in brazil but when i was 3 months old, i went back to china and lived for 4 years there then came back. i've been living here ever since, which has been around 13 years since i last saw my relatives, aunties, grandmas, cousins, etc., and throughout all those 13 years i've been promising them i would go back to visit "once i grow up", which technically, is this year since i'll turn 18 and i'll finish school.
the village my parents grew up and where i lived for a few years will forever be part of me, that one part that makes me keep going.
Thank you!
Love seeing you reconnect with your roots, you look happy here❤
so proud of you that you took everything from your 'original roots' with so much pride, love, and joy...hope you continue spending time with your family back in China

This hit close to home for me. I haven’t had the chance to go back to my roots and explore my culture in 10 years as well. I really do miss the atmosphere of my childhood. This video felt nostalgic and healing.
stoppp I’m also from 福建 and this video got me crying😭😭 it so amazing seeing someone from the same place as me thrive
Wow! Happy 70th birthday to your grandpa! :) It's such a heartwarming vlog in China! :) Thanks for bringing us along!
first time watching a vlog but i loved it! it’s so wholesome that you had the chance to bond with your family and relive your childhood memories 🥺
Wow. Very bittersweet video. Nostalgic trip to China which resonates across all cultures. Loved that 90% of the video was you with a mouthful of delicious food ! Made me want to visit China just to eat all the wonderful dishes.
new fave vlogger!!!! SO WHOLESOME
looks so touching when you and your cousin eating together, that is going to be a great warm memory
Yesss such great yet simple experiences. i was so relaxed there😵💫🫣
That was an awesome video, brought back alot of nostalgic memories for me while watching you going thru your journey back home.
This is so relatable with relatives living overseas, got me feeling warm and reminiscing after watching the vlog! 😊

謝謝
Wow the village is so beautiful!!! my grandparents town has become pretty urbanized but its so great to see people still living in buildings that arent 50+ floor skyscrapers
aww its awesome when people are able to reconnect with roots and revisit past memories 🥺
It is evident that you come from a loving family. Your relationship with your cousins is lovely to watch 😊😊

"come back soon to play with me" i felt how your little brother misses you so much . Godlbess and take care of yourself...new subscriber from Philippines
