When I was a kid, I got my first real guitar at a Jacksonville pawn shop. My dad bought it for me for Christmas, 1974, but it was actually a week before Christmas. It was a blonde 1964 Fender Stratocaster with a rosewood neck and blonde case. He paid $150 for it. The pawn shop guy went upstairs and got it, and I remember his wife and him having a huge argument about it right there in the shop, because she said he wasn't supposed to sell it, but he said it was for a gift from a father to his son! So, we bought it. It was my first real guitar. Sold it long ago. Later, I wondered if it was hte missing Jimi Hendrix guitar. It fit the timeline, place and year, guitar, etc. Will never know, I guess.
Pawn shops and guitar shops should want people filming, as it is free promotion. I did a couple videos hitting up pawn shops on road trips on my little channel. Decent inside footage, but all with my phone. Recently subscribed and liking your stuff. Keep it up!
So in the interest of full transparency, i began watching and was like “yo has Alex taken a tranquilliser?!” I then realised I still had video speed slowed down from learning master of puppets! Haha 😂. Love you guys ❤
Shocked you guys didn’t go to George’s Music at Jax Beach, it’s the best selection and biggest shop in Jax! The orange park location was sold to sam ash but the main George’s in Jax was always the one at the beach!
My friends work for Crazy Dave’s. The first time I went by the new showroom I drove around the parking lot for 20 minutes before finally calling one of them to come escort me in. It’s like a secret batcave.
People rag on Guitar Center, but if you think of them as a used guitar and gear shop, they are excellent. A whole wall of used guitars and racks of used pedals. And the staff is so friendly. Their return policy is great. And you can order anything from them. New or used.
I just discovered your channel and love it. As a recent transplant from San Diego to Jacksonville, surprised you didn't check out Kevin's Superstore. Great guiar shop on the West Side. But, I have never heard about the Mock Shop. Thanks, I will defeintely check it out.
Yes,Losing Ray Hennig’s H.O.T. Music store in Waco was like losing a child. So many of us pickers grew up in that store when it started out on Franklin Ave in the 60’s.
I use to live in Jacksonville from 1983 to 1997 and I play guitar all my life..I sold a guitar there for $75 an Ibanez Flying V for $75 in 1987 and today its worth $1200..omg my head hurts😂😂😂😂
My very first guitar was found in a pawn shop on West Bay Street, in Jacksonville ... 1963. A 1954 Stratocaster. Drove past Mock two days ago. Did you guys miss Kevin's?
love your videos! especially the store visits and shows👍great to see Kaylie too in the videos - i'm sure she has a wealth of guitar knowledge and i can see such an important member of your fab team
Jacksonville was really disappointing! You should take a road trip to Western PA! Loads of guitar shops to choose from. They all have great gear. Marketplace is alive and well also!
Totally agree. Peol!e are gonna be selling their guitars to eat. People have no clue , they're all too busy starring at their phones and watching phoney baloney MSM.
What's up with Guitar center????? Does anybody even work there? Was it really late? You probably could have just walked out with whatever you wanted, like you said there wasn't much there.... I'm starting to really enjoy your show I'm not a big vintage guy but I have been playing for about 30 years. I'm more into the metal side of guitar playing! Maybe you can do more flying V's or pointy guitars! Keep up the good work! You have a cool show!!🔥👍
I'm very curious about your business model. Why are you trying to pick up inventory for your shop at retail outlets like GC and mom and pop guitar stores? I would think there wouldn't be enough meat left on the bone for you to make any real money. It's not like they don't know what they have and you can get a killer deal on stuff. What am I missing?
Glad I bought mine 2019. I doubt guitars will be rock bottom of that. Lowball offer won't buy a fast food combo meal or two. Might as well keep them. The day society retires you, you'll have time & buying a new one will still be expensive. Some of the new guutars are turning into smartphones anyway. Still have to play the guitar, only now, that's going to be a usb recharge for effects included guitars. No thanks I'll stick with the one's I have.
And now that Sam Ash is gone, and that second GC still sucks. As a former GC employee, sad to see what they have for stock. More used gear, because that is how they make their money Buy low and sell overpriced...and cannot afford the new gear because of not paying bills.
Somebody cut their hair , who did that for you . Looks like a Kaylie cut copy ..I wonder what a Kaylie copy sells for that's not an original black one.
@5:30 "No Stairway" is fine, "No Jamming" is the opposite end of the spectrum, you may as well type "Musicians are not allowed to have a beautiful incident of connection here" which does not serve any musician anywhere. Never ever going to this shop, and they must hold full responsibility for that. Do they know what the word "Jamming" means ? "No lack of originality, no originality." ..welp ...nothing to do here. I will not go to a music shop that actively deters musicians from being musical. I've redacted a lot of expletives I felt were entirely justified, because I think this message must be heard with absolute clarity.
Unless you were there on a Sunday, you messed up big not going to Kevin’s Music. Lots of great stuff there if you know where to look!❤
Jack Mock and Mikey are national treasures.
Mock Shop has some good stuff most of the time. We’ve lost so many treasured guitar shops over the years.
Kevin’s Musicians Superstore! You missed it. Looks like a cement block with no windows but inside is a guitar paradise with amazing staff.
I’ve been in Jax 9 years and just heard of Mock’s. Can’t wait to check them out.
Kevin's Musicians Superstore....lots of LEFT handed stuff too. Largest one for southpaw's in Jax. Used new etc.
Thanks as a lefty. Bookmarked for later

No kidding eh. Stupid is as stupid does.
Yer poaching in my territory brother....😉
I found a lefty Les Paul Standard in a pawn shop on Cesery. I should have bought it. I’ve been to that Goodwill many times
You should try guitar "store" in St. Augustine on the way back from Jacksonville, Fl.
5th Century music.
Thanks
Michael

Happens to the best of us
Jack @ Mock rocks and so does his band Dean Winter and the Heat 🔥
He really is!

Walked right pass a J Mascis jazz master, the killer deal. Who remembers Don's pawn shop? If we only had a time machine.
That was my favorite place to go when I was in high school! First time I ever saw a Pre-CBS strat!

Cleaaaaan pull away transition 😮💨🤌
Thomas really nailed that

How you gonna come through Jacksonville and not hit up Liberty Music Inc?!? By far the best high end guitar shop in north Florida. 🎸

Kevin’s music superstore is the best guitar shop in Jax
Now Sam Ash is closed. 😮 I bought my Martin there.

I live in Jax. Never have seen much good in the stores here
@Alex,, really enjoy the road trips,, thanks for sharing..
Thanks so much!!
From an old roadie, my back hurts

ya love to see it!
UNF 🤘
Love my aerodyne 110dmc (the top of the line from the first run of 2006) .......
Hope you got a chance to stop at SoGlo Guitar Gallery in Brunswick on the way to Savannah
I love that shop so much. I bought a fantastic John Bliven 00 from them. I love hanging out there when I get up to Brunswick.
Jacksonville was really disappointing! You should take a road trip to Western PA! Loads of guitar shops to choose from. They all have great gear. Marketplace is alive and well also!
@2.50 please go back to value pawn for the Steinberger bass for me😄
you should check out 5rth century music in St.Augustin, Fla when you are in the area.
The market is flooded with guitars. The bubble is gonna burst. Guitar center will be loaded with used stuff.
Totally agree. Peol!e are gonna be selling their guitars to eat. People have no clue , they're all too busy starring at their phones and watching phoney baloney MSM.
Went to my local guitar center in Central FL, the only thing they were loaded with was garbage.
Guitar center already is flooded! I’m having a great time getting all the stuff i wanted 20 yrs ago for a pittance.
I noticed guitars sitting on Reverb from 8 months, to over a year. I see sellers lowering the price multiple times before selling.
In New York used stuff flies off the shelves. I missed out on a studio Les Paul that was mint for a killer price. I waited one day too long. 😢
Im a new subscriber .l think your channel is fantastic
Thank you so much!
Absolutely fantastic have a good weekend Alex also today is my friends birthday ❤😊
Cheers!!
Tremendous
Cheers!!
Have you ever had a Les Paul Signature; 335 style with a hook lower cutaway?
What's up with Guitar center????? Does anybody even work there? Was it really late? You probably could have just walked out with whatever you wanted, like you said there wasn't much there....

That Mercedes blue Strat is beautiful! What year/model is that? Do you know if it came with those wide range humbuckers? And are they CuNiFe?
I brought a Acoustic guitar from the Goodwill never heard of the brand (Alexis) but it sounds good
Nice find!!
Well I don't know never heard of that brand before lol
Trouble is anybody can look up stuff on reverb etc so pawn shops are no longer good places for bargains.
Heavy amplifiers-no matter how good they may sound-are starting to go out of style, no?

That Sam Ash just closed…

Jacksonville is where Duane and Gregg Allman grew up.
Don't forget about Ronnie VanZant , Tom Petty and many others
They actually grew up in Daytona where they both attended Seabreeze High School.
@@54fighting5 Yep, agree that the Allman Brothers lived their teen years in Daytona Beach. Tom Petty was Gainesville. Molly Hatchet formed in Jax.
@@jimcamp2423 I think you replied to someone else?
@@54fighting5 my intent was to agree with you & add Tom Petty & Molly Hatchet facts to the discussion.

I'd love to know what he was asking for that old 40's Gibson. Anybody know ?

Yikes its not ahhberheim...its Oberheim...as in Oboe.
Don't worry, sometimes Alex says "Moog" instead of "Mowg" as well -Thomas

Brother what the hell does that even mean

It’s not a serious sign; it’s a joke. I’ve gone in there several times and jammed for an hour or more while work was slow.
With a glut of guitars to sell, Stairway Allowed will be the new policy, play what you want.
