  • OMG, HPD!
    Part of doing well is placing yourself in position to do well. Well, that and narrowly avoiding incident with not so cat like reflexes, am I right, or am I right? Only need to play my game, not theirs.

    That was me on your gearbox the first 14 laps. Until that guy on lap 14 came back on track and demolished me! This was the start of my HPD career!

    I like watching you even when things are going good. I learn stuff just by hearing you comment on how took a random corner or passed some lapped traffic.
    You make some good commentary as well for a guy with nothing to talk about in the race. Don't change the format. It works.

    Even though this video is more than 2 years old, I'm still gonna "give my mustard to it" (literal translation of a german saying). I think cutting out chunks of the race where nothing happens is like spoiling the outcome of a race like "wait for lap so-and-so, somethings gonna happen". By leaving the length untouched, you add some of the thrill you're only going to get when watching a real life race. But hey, that's just my opinion and you have the freedom to edit the hell out of your videos! :]

    If people are bored by laps where nothing happens, they can fast forward to more interesting sections of the vid. Personally, I find it interesting to see how your laptimes develop and how you manage to keep up your focus. So I would say, do not cut out portions of the race.

    Fucking Laguna Se3ca... One of the best courses imo, and THE best of the shorter ones.
    Ever single corner is a challenge, there is no dead space on this track. And the insane verticality does its part as well. Simply brilliant.

    For sure play the whole race out. A lot of us turn to youtube and watch these very helpful videos to aid us in learning tracks, braking points, lines etc...I am an oval iracer, so these road course videos sure to help me out if I try and attempt a road course. But I am only a class D road racer and have only ran Laguna Seca with the mazda car so this is helpful to watch how other types of road cars properly driven should drive/handle.

  • @TacticalCardboard
    @TacticalCardboard  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can't remember if this was one from the forum or a modified fixed. It really wasn't stable, I just had to take care. Get into the corner too hot (too much nose weight under turn in) and it would rotate around all the time.
    If it was from the forums, it was from Alan Paterson or whatever his name is, then modified from there slightly. All told, I think I had about an hour and a half of practice / setup before the race.

  • @TacticalCardboard
    @TacticalCardboard  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Average across the race was a 15 flat, that includes traffic as well as a very relaxed pace after the at the time leader spinning out and taking the car behind me with it. The only thing you need to worry about is being faster than the class behind you which is fairly easy, if you can do that go ahead and race if you are ready and safe enough around other cars. Pace comes with practice.

  • @TacticalCardboard
    @TacticalCardboard  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yea, I'd never leave a yellow unless the conversation is funny / awesome. I want to punch something whenever a yellow comes out, if I could skip them real time I would. lol
    I'm a fan of Metal Gear Solid, stealth game where you can hide in a cardboard box, as in "I'm just an empty box, don't mind me" (hops out of box, snaps a guard's neck, hops back in box)
    Plus it's unique enough but not silly with numbers and letters and stuff.

  • @TacticalCardboard
    @TacticalCardboard  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wasn't the Vette's fault (reviewed it after the race as I've raced with Chad a LOT over the years so I know he's good), the HPD spun, ended up in the middle of the track. Rather than reverse (away from the racing line) he went forward, directly onto the line in front of traffic.
    The HPD was far enough left going right was easy and the only option. Until he moved in front of the Vette.

  • @TacticalCardboard
    @TacticalCardboard  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Depends what car you drive, the MX5 for example... well... I can't drive that. If it was the rookie car when I started I'd probably never subscribed again.
    Get into the Skip, if anything it has a touch too much stability, but overall still very good. Plus, often it's a matter of getting used to the visual cues of a different sim when I switch. The way a certain slip angle looks in GSC isn't the same it looks in iRacing, isn't the same it looks in rF2.

  • @TacticalCardboard
    @TacticalCardboard  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Point being, I hate the ARX01c's feedback here in iRacing. It isn't exactly communicative. It works, once you get used to it. It is very knife edge, react fast enough it can be saved, but if you don't not a chance.
    Sure the 03 may be a P1 car, but with the regulation differences, the 01c is fairly close to a modern P1, and likely would behave somewhat similarly in those regards.
    Certainly hate the FFB in this car less now after that article!

  • @TacticalCardboard
    @TacticalCardboard  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, the answer is I'm not cutting anything out. lol
    Also, side note... Reading Road & Track before this race (thought this was interesting), a journo gets to take the ARX-03 P1 car (Muscle Milk) around Sebring.
    Besides DF not being scary to try and use in a sim, his main point was the steering lacked feedback in the real car, much like in iRacing. Luhr claims it is driven with your eyes to a large degree, like in a sim.
    Both of those are pretty accurate to the ARX01c here interestingly.

  • @TacticalCardboard
    @TacticalCardboard  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    As in the FW31?
    Not a single thought. It drives nicely on the NTMv5 actually, but F1 cars are just not my thing in sims. Just too fast, too much downforce, too short of braking zones which makes passing more difficult.
    The HPD and Indycar are about as fast as I can stand to race. If we had a P1 car I'd probably run the HPD more even though a P1 would be "sexier" given it would be faster.

  • @TacticalCardboard
    @TacticalCardboard  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I left my V2s alone entirely out of the box.
    The V1s I had (same thing minus hydraulic shock) it for nearly zero pedal travel. And frankly if I weren't so lazy, I'd do it this way on the V2s. (lol)
    Unlike the Logi pedals, the CSPs are load cell, meaning you want to be on the cell - when the pedal doesnt travel, but the pressure on the pedal determines braking. The "travel" just simulates the initial sponginess of a pedal as the pads travel to the rotors.

  • @TacticalCardboard
    @TacticalCardboard  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ford GT is the best (as in it drives in a normal manner, like a car) car of the group. Corvette is a BEAST and by far the hardest to drive, the HPD is on another planet from the others entirely
    My brain says Ford, my heart says Vette.

  • @TacticalCardboard
    @TacticalCardboard  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    What kind of issues did the pedals give you? They work just fin in iRacing, I started with that wheel way back when. There isn't a single sim out there that would work with the paddles as gas / brake, as they are just on / off switches.

  • @TacticalCardboard
    @TacticalCardboard  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Because tons of drivers gravitate to it even though they are incapable of driving it capably yet they try to anyways because it's easy to go faster than a GT car. Those guys usually end up wrecking GT cars with reckless abandon.

  • @TacticalCardboard

    No, not likely either as DTM is done through the series itself (not manufacturers) so it is way too expensive for too little return.

    I say don't cut it. I use these to learn from. Also what capture do you use? I tried using Frame Rate Automatic Pisser otherwise known as Fraps. But, either my cards can't handle it or, it takes up to muchof my CPU (ADM quad core) to run it.

    • @VideoDJTimmy

    Love the dynamics in this game but just takes forever to get going and I also know nothing about car setup so I always feel I'm going in wrong. Also it's kinda pricey for a casual race...

  • @jacobkraemer6280
    @jacobkraemer6280 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like to watch you work through lap traffic and how you handle it while trying to hold off someone or battle someone. Most of the time I'm surfing the web or doing something while watching this. Also nice to watch how the car changes throughout the race along how you handle the track.

  • @slaWterCH

    Even though I'm not in the Pro series, I do a full race simulation every week in practice before racing. Even for long races. I don't do a lot of races so I want to make them count and be prepared for them. I want to know how the car feels and changes over the course of a full stint before joining a race.

    Hey dude love the vids. Was wondering if you might run some ICR2 say running the 93 94 or 95 Lola. Just love the open wheel and since you're going old school why not bring back ICR2. It's a great game and I'd love to see how you'd describe running laps at Indy trying to maintain 220 corner speeds over the course of a fuel run.
    Since you are so good at describing how a car handles. Just a thought. Great works cheers

  • @TripSpeedGT
    @TripSpeedGT 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Off topic, but the ClubSport v2s arrived yesterday, and I was wondering what your thoughts are on the spring and sensitivity setup for the brake pedal. I didn't have time last night to do too much testing with various combinations, but I ended up putting the spring travel back on the default setting and the sensor on about 8 (because that's when the utility showed full braking when I had the pedal depressed as far as it would go)

  • @TacticalCardboard
    @TacticalCardboard  11 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @Projectekon
    @Projectekon 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The wheel works great with other games. I just haven't gotten them to work with ICR2 for whatever reason. Not saying you would have the same issue but if you did that was my option around it.
    It'd be awesome to see you run ICR2 with working pedals, that game was just a lot of fun in general. Skin packages made it fun as well.

  • @Projectekon
    @Projectekon 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well I had the Logitech Momo and I managed to get the Wheel to work fine but the pedals gave me issues. I'm sure there are ways to get the pedals to work, but what I did was use my paddles shifters as gas/break. Wasn't ideal but works out okay on Ovals, little trickier on RC and SC.
    But yea I'm sure it can be set up to a model wheel wit some tinkering.

    Another problem with cutting the 'boring' bits out is that it ruins the suspense. The viewer knows something dramatic is likely to happen after the video has skipped on.
    Second the comment advocating a list of highlight timings in the description, that way the viewer decides if he wants to skip or not.

    This car is awesome, but its a liar. When you first drive it, you're like, OMG, this thing is so easy to drive.. Then you realize your 10 seconds off the pace/ But, when you do eventually learn how to drive this car, which I will admit, is scary at first.. oh man, what a blast. This thing just STICKS to the road when you do it right. That turn that leads up the hill, with the red curbing bit, IS freaking awesome you nail it.
    Gets a lot of heat because of idiots in this car in the mixed class series, and those idiots exist BECAUSE this car is so easy to drive, off the pace. But it takes practice and concentration to drive it quick, and its a blast to do.

    Hey I have some advice; at 10:59 on your way into turn 1, you began to use a certain breaking/steering technique that allowed you to get a faster corner entry. If you can practice those techniques and get that down consistently, it'll improve your times by a hellava lot. It's an extremely risky and difficult technique to master but if you can do it, you'll be fast as shit.
