Hi Chad, Nice video which explains really simply how to make a Celtic Knot Pen. I have made dozens of these pens and the only two points I would like to make is that when cutting on the table saw I use a stop block to ensure that all the cuts are made at the same distance from the end so the knot is perfectly aligned. Secondly when I cut my grooves I make the second cut opposite the first side, the third cut is made 90 degrees to the left of the second cut and the final cut is made opposite the third cut. This then makes the rings go inside and outside each other overlapping each other. Cheers Huw
Hi Chad, thank you for the video and that turned out awesome. So much that I ordered some of the inlay material and it arrived just today. After I got off work I went out and turned one out of black walnut and the same inlay material, turned out great. Thanks again for showing us the information, very helpful indeed.
Very nice! I would love to try making my own celtic knot blanks. One problem though, please help, what is that white little squares you putting into the wood blank?
hi Chad, I really enjoyed your video so much that I didn't want to pause it long enough to go to the bathroom. Thank you for being human, humorous, enlightening and entertaining. I would love to have a diagram of the jig, where to buy the material, and the sander you use in the head stock. I have been turning pens for 6 years and looking for something new. I understand you can't answer everybody, but maybe a general shoutout. Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful! I just put the jig together myself so I don't have a diagram unfortunately. And I sell a lot of the materials at the store I own called Turners Warehouse. Hope that helps and sorry for the delayed reply!
I love that pen you made. Can you do a video on picking out a nice set of turning tools. Im just getting into turning and I’m getting confused with all the different types of turning tools out there and what to get
I have them at my store in 2mm and 3mm sizes, and there is only one color . Here is a link www.turnerswarehouse.com/products/segmenting-material?_pos=1&_sid=7b5403538&_ss=r
You can buy them at Turners Warehouse (my turning store) Here is the link :-) www.turnerswarehouse.com/products/segmenting-material?variant=21749699838035
Hi Chad, I just saw your Celtic not pen construction and I would like to know what you used instead of a credit card. I would like to know if I can get the same material.

@@ChadSchimmel Thank you so very much for such a prompt response. I need to clarify: I am looking for a laminate that is aluminum/acrylic (a variety of colors) /aluminum (3 layers) that totals 3/64-1/16 thick. That would fit the bandsaw cut in my pen blank and give a Celtic Knot that is not really thick. The different colors is so that I can have contrasting colors in the variety of woods i.e. Walnut, Maple, Cherry and Ebony.
Nicely done! Just ordered an Incra miter gauge and table saw sled.p, looking forward to trying this. Also... It blows my mind how every one asks the same question over and over again. Wow! Folks too lazy to click on the video description, OR read some of the comments?! C'mon people!

Very nice. What saw blade were you using, cross cut or combination blade, thin kerf or standard? Or was it something else? Perfect fit for the laminate.
Ok so I have attempted this pen twice. Some of my lines don’t intercept. I made a jig. When I put it through the table saw should I be pushing the jig all the way through?
Hi Kandie, not sure if you have completed the celtic knot by now but I was having the same issue when I would turn the wood, however what I found out is that I was not turning the wood piece down far enough to allow all the bows in the know to come through. I realized this after my 3rd attempt and for the life of me could not figure out what I was doing wrong as I knew my cuts were correct. Silly me.. Hope this helps and good luck.
"glue and accelerator" they said in description www.turnerswarehouse.com/search?q=Mercury It's mercury's version of superglue (ca) and their accelerator
I liked except for non-stop yeaking. 😄 Seriously, with your design I can see how the order of segmenting could have a big impact on the final product, thanks. Liked the material chooses, thanks for showing the sources.
Hello Chad Thanks for the video. 2 questions of you don’t mind - What material did you use for the Celtic knot ? What tool did you use to turn the pen? Thank you Chris
@@ChadSchimmel Thank you Chad, I watched (and re-read the notes again) It looks like a woodpecker tool -- I am thinking of getting a set -- but was curious what size (Full, mid or pen) you had used? Thanks again for a great video
Not necessarily, I have 3 lathes normally turn bowls and larger spindles, been thinking about doing pens for a while. Just bought a complete pen kit with 5 pens to start with for £85. Going to have a play at making pens. It is a hobby and if all turns out well it may pay for its self and allow me to buy some new tools. It isn’t about the cost it is enjoyment of making something beautiful and useful out of a bit of scrap wood .
Hi Chad, many thanks for sharing this, great video. I can't wait to give it a try.👍👍👍
WOW!! VERY NICE!
Thank you
C'est de la magie de voir apparaître le dessin, j'adore ... je vais essayer ça tout de suite. Merci beaucoup, du coup, des idées me viennent !

Very Nice looking pen. thanks for sharing.
I do like how you made those pens I wouldn't mind buying a few of those pens to give to a couple of people I know I do think they might like those to
I am definitely going to give it a shot!
Thank you Chad.
Brilliant!
Hi Chad! I decided to make my first Celtic knot pen and remembered you have a how-to video. Wish me luck!

I’m confused on how the sides are cut. Is it just 1-4 in order? I did that and it didn’t give me the over/under Celtic knot look
