Every culture has or had its iconoclasts-Italy had Leonardo da Vinci. Germany had Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. India had Buddha. France had Voltaire. We should also learn to applaud those who choose the big American style, even if we have decided not to live so large ourselves. For example, my neighbor recently purchased a brand new 2025 Cadillac Escalade gimme gimme mobile. Instead of knocking her for it, I decided to go next door and congratulate her for her smart shopping decision. She told me that Santa said that she needed to treat herself to something special this holiday season, especially after having recently divorced her husband of 8 years. However, her psychic told her to wait on the botox injections and tummy tuck. The conversation was brief, yet very enlightening. I was extremely surprised when she ended the conversation by telling me that if only more of our people bought such grand and sturdy automobiles, then, maybe we would be able to end our reliance on mid-east oil. I was very surprised because it is a rare thing to hear a fellow citizen make such an astute and accurate political observation. Anywho, I went back to my retrofitted Winnebago with solar panel and wind turbine and cranked up the old black and white Sony tv with rabbit ears to see if I could catch a rerun of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous". Soon after, I faded into the land of nod and had a very vivid dream where I met with our Elon in D.C. and he offered to equip my outhouse with his Tesla rockets at a 25 percent shoppers' discount and shoot me into outer space!
The NYT is fundamentally flawed in the premise that in the mid 2010s tech became too big and powerful. Microsoft, Apple, Salesforce, AOL, Yahoo, Google and Facebook were already big and influential before then. I remember when many said Obama won the 2008 election because of his savvy with Facebook. The iPhone and iPad were the biggest, most hyped launches for any product ever. Amazon was already huge. So I don’t buy that the antagonist shift came naturally as tech hit this certain scale. When Bill Gates retired, he was the richest person ever.
Yes, this is a very flawed reporting. Silicon Valley flipped to the right this time because the Biden administration has been anti-business, to such an extent that, if we extrapolating the trend, the US might fall behind in the tech war with China.

Prior to the late 19th century, most companies were incorporated by a special bill adopted by legislature. By the end of the 18th century, there were about 300 incorporated companies in the United States, most of them providing public services, and only eight manufacturing companies.[1] The formation of a corporation usually required an act of legislature. State enactment of corporation laws, which was becoming more common by the 1830s, allowed companies to incorporate without securing the adoption of a special legislative bill. However, given the restrictive nature of state corporation laws, many companies preferred to seek a special legislative act for incorporation to attain privileges or monopolies, even until the late nineteenth century. In 1819, the U.S. Supreme Court granted corporations rights they had not previously recognized in Trustees of Dartmouth College v. Woodward. The Supreme Court declared that a corporation is not transformed into civil institution just because the government commissioned its corporate charter; and, accordingly, it deemed corporate charters "inviolable" and not subject to arbitrary amendment or abolition by state governments.
NYT is neglecting the fact that Andereessen was most unhappy about the anti-business and anti-development stance the Biden ministration has adopted. A very biased reporting and thumb down.
Biden pushed through one of the biggest infrastructure bills since The New Deal, how is that anti-business? Also the CHIPS Act encouraging semiconductor production and development. Also the single largest land block sale for off-shore energy production in history. And siding with the railroads against the union that one time. Calling him anti-business and anti-development is like accusing water of not being wet enough.

The sole reason tech flourished so much and you are able to write this here is because gov kept itself out of tech
