I and my band live in SW Virginia, I play bass and I'm slowely converting my metal band into stoner metal, like I've schemed of all along for two years...... Dude's buy my album after you buy Weedeater's. Love you guys for lovin these guys, for the love triangle of lovin guys that keep the tradition of dirt weed.
I'm guessing a few reasons but overall it's to be closer to the audience. Drummers don't get much time to be "in the face" of the crowd the way vocalists or guitarists with mobility do. Also his style is very animated and sitting sideways gives the audience a better view of his antics. Kind of like a how a concert pianist sits sideways, so the instrument isn't blocking the performer.
