@GimSoori, I concur you, mate.
I still remember, when I's a minor child, asking my father where's Ceylon, he said it's the "current" Sri Lanka, and explained it to me as it's like India/Bharat, when Europeans kept it occupied & called it as Ceylon... (Though India's still "mentioned" anyway). His such simple/naive explanation was enough for a class-One student I reckon.
@GimSoori. Gotta love Sri Lanka.
No Yugoslavia, no Soviet Union?
Vasil Zahariev I was hoping to see them too, but maybe they are too well known (or atleast the Soviet Union is) to be in the video

I'm a Sri Lankan and I was pretty shocked to see us on the list.
Also as a sidenote, I was pretty surprised to hear our national anthem in the background too
It’s flag is also in the Sri Lanka flag
True
Hey, I'm from Sri Lanka. I don't know how you chose the background music, but starting from 3.32 min it's the National Anthem of Sri Lanka. Although it starts while discussing Vermont and description starts on Ceylon (4.06 min). The anthem continues for a couple more but it's cool.

The language " Indian " does not exist. India has 1600+ languages. You should mention the local languages specifically. The most popular languages spoken in Sikkim include Nepali, Lepcha and Bengali.
Meh
@Cathal Ó Braonáin he mentioned indian as a language family, as in indian languages
Every language in India collectively known as Indian Languages for foreigners. If it was one it Bengali has to be mentioned but since there are 3 he collectively said Indian languages

Thanks very much for this video, especially for including Neutral-Moresnet - a "country" even most Germans and, as I think, a great number of Belgians, too, haven't heard about. By the way, did you know there were people in Neutral-Moresnet in 1907 who wanted to establish Esperanto as the official language and rename the region to "Amikejo" (land of friends)? Thanks very much, great work!
Republic of Texas and California, USSR, perhaps. Very interesting, though, especially the bit about Vermont.
Bla bla bla still most people at Texas wanna stick with the US
Yeah! I'm sure NOT many people KNOW about VERMONT - but did you KNOW Maine was ONCE a part of Massachusetts? It became independent around 1820, when the Missouri Compromise went into effect.

Interesting. I appreciate but consider your list is way short. You forgot to add Soviet Union, North Vietnam, South Vietnam, New Granada in South America. Did not mention countries like Tanganica, Zanzibar (both joint to form Tanzania). Also Republic of Upper Volta and not to forget you barely mentioned Tibet. Of course, there are many more that I am not aware. Again..... too short your list, but appreciate your effort.
You didn’t mention the Republic of Texas 1836-1846.
And I expected to hear the Ottoman Empire.
Me too :(
They didn’t mention California Republic, Kingdom of Hawaii, Tannu Tuva, or the Cisalpine Republic either... so what? Can’t mention everyone every time!

Ceylon is weird in this list. That country only changed it's name. There are more examples like that. And come to think of it, a lot of current states were once part of a country that no longer exists. Mexican Empire, greater Colombia, the Kingdom of Holland or it's predecessor the Batavian Republic. UK was once England, Wales, Scotland. The Roman Empire, Yugoslavia, East and West Germany, but before that the German Empire, or before that the Holy Roman Empire. Tanganyika, Zanzibar, etc etc etc
Yes I noticed that too. Zaire might as well have been in here too if Ceylon was in it
Excellent points: I did not remember those other names such as Tanganyika. May I add Britannia? My family has a metal tea set which survived a house-fire in Ireland with Britannia inscribed at the bottom of the teapot, same ol' Britain but different spelling as spelling in English had not quite standardized yet.

The UK is still England, N.Ireland Scotland and Wales

In the 19th century there were 2 "khanates" in Central Asia which were descended from the Great Mongol Empire. These were the khanates of Bukhara and Kokand. The khanate of Bukhara ruled the fabled city of Samarkand. When the Russians began expanding into Central Asia in the mid-19th century the British tried unsuccessfully to establish alliances with these 2 khanates. They became Russian protectorates and were abolished after Czar Nicholas II was overthrown and the Communists came to power. Today much of the former Khanate of Kokand is part of Uzbekistan.

Me 2
Austria Hungary was always a combination of two countries...
ME with other countries that it took over though
No it is austria
For half a century it was kind of 1 country, kind of 2 countries
Well hungary alone was multinational, in 17 century they got beaten up by ottomans, only northen part survived (slovakia). Slovakia was then connected to austria and so the hungary, few centuries later austria made the deal with hungary called austrio-hungarian settlement, also there has been historical part called bohemia which is czech republic today so no, it was not combination of two countries
Maybe do some episodes of sports fan territories in the U.S or worldwide?
So......some if these countries are still there, just called different names, right? : Right!!
